Where did I say trans men competing with women? That is what you want. I don't care if it's transwomen competing with women.

As we've already gone through this is arguing about shark attacks and lightning strikes, so dare I say, this is overblown.
You know exactly what I meant. Yet, let's look at it from your point of view. This little stunt at the job fair is just another shark attack or lightening strike.

What did you mean? I'm trying to not assume negative intent. If I was to assume negative intent it would be that you're purposely misgendering someone to be transphobic for whatever reason, but again, you can clarify what you meant.

Sure is, now look back at who posted this event. Don't think it was me. Maybe your issue with the size and scope of these kind of things can be directed at the poster who posted it.

Here is an interesting article from a year ago about how San Francisco became a failed city.

I thought a couple of points about addicts and homeless from around the country flocking there because of all of the free services available to them were interesting. Also, these activists are getting them killed.

Failed city…that’s dumb. That’s a term one would use for Port au Prince.

I can say with certainty that San Francisco
is way “nicer” and more upscale than it was circa 1989.

Some big reasons there’s no affordable housing (one of the biggest issues) are:

1. Lots of SRO’s and public housing was torn down and or converted into condos in the late 90’s early 2000’s tech boom. That housing stock was never replaced as far as I know.

2. Everyone wants to own or live a 2-3 story flat in a neighborhood of 2-3 story flats.

3. It’s completely built out.

4. Short term rentals.

The primary reason the city budget and downtown areas are in trouble as far as I can tell are because the people who ran the city for many years went all in with tech, even going as far as giving firms like Twitter massive tax breaks.

So yeah. From where I sit crony capitalism and a high concentration of billionaire assholes with money to burn, not “liberal policies” are the root of many of SF’s problems.

When have we discussed Trans Men competing against men? It's always been Trans women competing against women, but I posted the incorrect term, so that's on me. So I'll ask, why are you not okay with the males attending the job fair, but you're okay with Trans men competing against women? Like you stated, it's a lightening strike or shark attack in the rare instance that it occurs and the intent is basically the same.

The city of San Francisco utilizes a strong mayor and city council system. In this form of municipal government, the city council serves as the city's primary legislative body and the mayor serves as the city's chief executive.

The last time a Republican was mayor of San Francisco, his term ended in 1964. Very short sighted to blame all of this on billionaires when the mayor and city council are the ones that control the development of the city.

Your assessment ignores the effect of money on politics and political decision making.

Not really, because it still boils down to those in office being influenced by those with the money.

Pretty fascinating interview on culture, race and identity.

Totally relatable.

When I’m in predominantly “white” areas people call me amigo and shit, particularly when I’m wearing work clothes (boots, jeans, ect…). Can’t even tell you how many times I’ve heard people express absolute shock at how well I speak English.

Now, when I’m in predominantly first generation Hispanic areas everyone addresses me in Spanish, which I don’t speak very well and they’re equally surprised by that.

Don’t even get me started on the confusion surrounding me being a redneck, Mexican American, retired punker, Notre Dame fan who also has an advanced degree. Haha.

The homeless story in SF is pretty simple. It's a NIMBY city with numerous veto points that have choked off expansions in the housing supply. It's surrounded by numerous suburbs/cities that are even worse. Growth in jobs with no growth in housing supply leads to prices getting bidded up and homelessness rising.

Other governance issues are often downstream of extremely distributed veto points in the system. It has a weak mayor system so you can vote for change all you want, but a new mayor can't really implement the changes they campaigned on.

Also, why isn't anyone posting pictures from the hellholes in the deep south/Appalachia where the murder and fentanyl OD rates are the highest?

Because those areas have always existed. Everyone knows about Deliverance.

Uhhh…news flash junkies and homeless people in urban areas, including SF has been a consistent issue for as long as I can remember. I used to leave my work truck unlocked because I got sick of people breaking in to rifle through it. Also, I found people sleeping in it on numerous occasions. That was back in the 90’s.

One time some hobo popped up in the bed serial killer style after I stared it up and when I saw him in the rear view it scared the hell out of me. Lol.

Fentanyl has definitely exacerbated things.

Wouldn’t fit some of the stupid narratives being pushed and it would have to acknowledge that these are national issues.

A former coworker of mine was doing volunteer work for his church throughout the South about ten years ago and he told me the one thing that blew his mind was the level of poverty he encountered.

I think you're comparing apples and oranges. It's not that hard to figure out. The media covers cities like SF or Portland because these are large metropolitan areas where many work & live and anyone reading the news knows where those cities are. You're not going to get many people to read and care about Oak Hill, AL. when they may have to close the local IGA, where people can relate to a Target closing stores.

Here's one case where the story is worse than the headline. They left out distributing child pornography, urinating in a tanning bed, putting feces in taco meat for kids, spraying bleach onto cucumbers also meant to be served to kids, and some other stuff. They say he's got mental health issues, and if so I hope he gets help, but he should absolutely be barred from schools for the rest of his life after a lengthy prison stay.
