I don’t think the unfair officials are gonna change until we join a conference

That’s been his first mistake. Almost cost us the game but he’s been reliable otherwise. But do it again….
He’s been solid but I can’t remember a ball carrier who goes down on contact the way he does. That said, he’s been a nice addition to the slot WR role & should be proud of his ability to transition to that position so seamlessly. Wish he got more looks but he may have trouble getting separation b/c when he does get loose, he makes a big play.

The truth is that it is targeting because he did lead with the crown of his helmet and it doesn’t matter where. The problem is that it’s a call that normally no ref would make since it was below the chest. The fact that this call came down from the booth also is absurd.
Well stated. The official in the broadcast booth said as much and talked about the safety aspect of both the tackler and the target. I wonder if Bothello doesn’t run off the field w/ a stinger, if it does unnoticed?

So why go back and read it? I mean we all agree it’s silly and no one takes it seriously. I’m been on message boards since mid-2000 and game day threads were the same then as they are today. That’s a weird type of voyeurism to stalk a game day thread in real time while a “Sat night prime time match up that lived up to the hype” is going on.
Oh, I haven't clicked in the game day thread once. I like the post game threads Sunday morning with my coffee. It was brought up in this thread, and knowing how some posters are here....I made an assumption. If I did go back and look though...would my assumption be correct?

Apparently Howard Cross played with a sinus infection. He must have been hopped up on Sudafed

I had to stop watching for the first since I was a teenager. I watched the Kelly era teams get smack around by Bama til the end. This team last night had more mental errors than a pee wee team.

The fake punt was obviously the best call of the night. The defense played really well. I know people don’t like Al but they are playing pretty consistent. Marist was balling out. The tackling needs to get better. I can’t believe how bad it is.

I have no idea why to say about the offense. The o line was not very good last night. Sam was good but nothing more. The Wr’s dropped some easy catches. Our offense coordinator was as bad as we have seen in a long time. They were clearly pinching up the middle and he never tried the speed backs to the outside. I am not sure what has to happen to the offense but they need some change.

Transfers and their level of play really need to be considered. The kicker must have never played in big games at USF. He strength means nothing when it’s a coin flip if he is going to make it. At ND you need to have confidence in your kicker and there is no way Freeman has that.

Freeman has some soul searching todo. I am not sure who he needs to call or get to visit but the last 5 quarters of football I watched were very poorly coached, very poorly executed and looks really bad.

But we saw why Sam came here. Stand up dude. Made sure the opposing QB was ok before he went with his team. I will give him props for that.

Botelho did lead with his helmet so I'll believe the rules guys that it was targeting, but I can't ever remember seeing targeting called on a tackle like that.

Kirk Herbsrreit literally said the rule is in place to protect the tackler…so Botelho got a 15 yard penalty because the officials care about his well-being apparently lol.

To add to this, USC holds on against Colorado without its best player and Georgia squeaks by Auburn who literally couldn’t complete a pass all game. Duke is better than both those teams, especially when it’s their Super Bowl at home.

Edit: adding Washington to the list who beat Arizona’s freshman backup QB by 7.

Perspective is everything. The lack of adjustments and creativity on offense concern me though, but I do think that is fixable. Especially when Greathouse and Thomas are healthy.

Oh sweet summer child (I say this sarcastically, not condescendingly). The narrative will obviously be:

Georgia showed their mettle in a tough road conference game against a bitter rival

USC survived the upstart Prime Time Buffs in a tough road test, but dominated the game at closer glance

Washington won at 3 AM. Nobody watched, and nobody cares.

BUT…..

Notre Dame showed fatal weaknesses and squeaked by a vastly overrated Duke team. This team is a cosmic load of shit, and shouldn’t be in any conversation about big time bowl games, much less playoffs.

The Irish should be slotted closer to 15 than 10 in the rankings, because beating Duke (the team we rolled the red carpet out for and propped up until they were no longer useful to us) has no value at all.

Until last night, I had no idea the rule included hits below the waist. Like I said, we see the hits all day long and I had never seen it called before.

We need to join a conferece for a few reasons higher than officiating, but officiating is getting up there.
How on earth can this ONE sheet of paper not be in front of the replay crew? That would absolutely NEVER happen to any other team.

Is something wrong with Estime? No burst at the LOS? Or he is overtaking it and being cute. My wife (not a great FB mind) thought he looked slow.

It’s his issue he has a slow first step. The OC should scheme for him to gather steam.

I'd love to know how many 30+ yard runs Love would have if he had as many chances as Estime. Cause everytime Love touches it everyone can tell something good's going to happen.

I agree with you I’ve watched… hundreds of hours probably?… of college football in the decade+ since the targeting rule was put in. I have NEVER seen a targeting for a low hit. You have to dive to make a tackle.

The vast majority of targeting calls are for helmet contact. I’ve seen a small amount for “spearing” above the waist where someone lowers their head.

But that was a comical call to be initiated from the booth. It is very clear that whoever was running the booth last night had an axe to grind with ND between that call and the ball out at the 1 yard line they weren’t even allowed to review but still called down for. That guy should be investigated and fired. The one near the goal line was actually insane too because the ref was standing RIGHT THERE who made the call on the field and there was no video angle better than what he was looking at. I 100% believe the “fix was in” from whoever the replay official was.

Glad they come home with a W.
Evans turning into big time playmaker.
Too many misakes wih OL, and they were outplayed all game.
While the refs have consistently been bad, this season and prior, it just seems they always find ways to penalize ND however they can.
Is Botello out 1st half at UL?
WRs need to step it up fast. TM missed catchable balls.
Not awaare of any injuries as long as Evans is OK.
Kicker issue is unsettling.

Also, I like Freeman and all but my man has to stop having so much confidence in a mediocre kicker.

Postgame Thoughts:
1) Sam Hartman with the helmet off- big heart, class act, we are lucky to have him
2) Sam Hartman with the helmet on- Sam F'ing Hartman
3) Hello Mitchell Evans, he had a Michael Mayer type of game
4) Tobias- if not now, when?
5) With the injury bug hitting the WR's, why doesn't Payne line up as a WR, when he is on the field he has a grit factor
6) Our D got to Leonard more than McCord last week, no questioning from me if Leonard is good or not, put him on a team like Ohio St. with better skill players than Duke, that is a championship team. Hopefully Leonord is OK
7) The questionable ref calls continue, but ND continues to beat ND. 4 offsides in the first quarter, 2 for Correll on back-back possessions
8) The 1-2 punch of Estime & Love is a nice combo
9) Gutsy call in the first qtr. on the fake punt
10) Estime had the winning TD, but Hartman is a true leader

Too much negativity after an ND win, it wasn't pretty, but I'd rather have an ugly win. Upward & onward, Love Thee Notre Dame

Go Irish!!

I sat in the tigerdroppings thread for the final 5 minutes of that game laughing at LSU fans...sending screenshots and everything. That's how alot of you looked in our game thread. Just saying, it's pretty cringy.
LSU, after a big loss, is great. The call in shows, the message boards…pure gold.

Borrowing this from another poster, autrey denson, because sadly, this sums everything up perfectly: “This is perhaps the most talented team I've watched at Notre Dame since the start of the BK era. And it is perhaps the most poorly-coached team I've watched over the same time period.” The talent is there. Sure, there’s spots where it can be better, but nothing is a glaring weakness. It’s a shame because this team is championship worthy; however, the coaching, collectively, isn’t.

Oh well…move on to Louisville.

Show me any game thread that isn’t ”pretty cringy” when their team is losing. It’s like saying water is wet.

Bingo. It’s literally the sole purpose of the game day threads on any site across any program. It’s a space to vent and celebrate. An outlet of both positive and negative emotion.

There are plenty of threads where people can sniff jocks and clap because the program merely exists.

Maybe just avoid game day threads if you are offended by raw emotion and wildly funny overreactions. People have the same right to fly off the handle as bury their face in a pile of jocks and describe the smell from a schematic standpoint.
