ACC refs are really the worst conference refs in college football. I don’t understand how they can be this bad. It’s not just against ND either - they are just bad. How do you make a procedure call when the o-lineman are simply getting into the stance? Review an unreviewable call? Unbelievable.

Sam Hartman took this game and made it his at the end. He had to have been very frustrated with the way the game was playing out and his lack of receivers but he made the plays when ND needed him. Great effort.

The lack of receivers severely hindered the offense tonight. Tobias is soft. I love Tyree, but he struggles to get open. The Duke DBs are supposed to be really good and they did t have to work hard to slow down the ND passing game. Need some guys to get healthy ASAP.

I watched a lot of football yesterday. There is not a single team in college football that does not have a LOT flaws. I know we are hyper critical of ND, but I saw some really bad football by supposed good teams yesterday. ND gutted out a good victory yesterday - just keep winning.

This is something to remember, always. College football is incredibly imperfect. (That's a large part of what makes it fun). And this morning would you rather be a Notre Dame fan or an LSU fan?

Prister in the Irish illustrated instant analysis said he heard Zeke correll say that was his worst game he’s ever played. At least he is self-aware!
The sequence where he picked up the snap too early one play and then got absolutely destroyed by their DT on the next was rough. I was looking for the backup center.

Defense played their balls off. I’m not seeing Riley Leonard as a 1st round talent but maybe i’m missing something.

If the offense is decent/good in the first half it’s a blowout. They need to put teams away when given the chance.

To add to this, USC holds on against Colorado without its best player and Georgia squeaks by Auburn who literally couldn’t complete a pass all game. Duke is better than both those teams, especially when it’s their Super Bowl at home.

Edit: adding Washington to the list who beat Arizona’s freshman backup QB by 7.

Perspective is everything. The lack of adjustments and creativity on offense concern me though, but I do think that is fixable. Especially when Greathouse and Thomas are healthy.

The proctology running game needs to be revamped.

If he is, it's on potential/tools. The best part of his game seemed to be his legs and they won't be as helpful in the NFL. I hope he's OK though.

Agree on the latter point. We should probably have had 20 or 24 points at halftime. Same problem last week. I'm not sure we can count on holding USC under 20 so we're going to need to get better at scoring touchdowns when we have the chance early in games.

I was honestly very disappointed in ND this game. I thought that they'd come out and play like a team possessed. I very much thought this would be a statement game for them after the Ohio State debacle.

Well, they made their statement...it just wasn't what I thought it would be. They were unprepared and lackadaisical...MF did not have his team ready to play, and they were straight getting pushed around in the 4th. Under no circumstances should Duke be asserting its will on Notre Dame in a football game. Glad to get the win, but it was very disappointing to see.

This team was not ready to play.
This… stock is down on freeman

The team is soft and undisciplined .. we have a few people that bring it but that’s the minority

I'm closer to not sure than I ever have been. Al Golden is saving his ass right now. Really starting to worry that Parker may be the next learn on the job Tommy and MF doesn't have time.

The penalties I put directly on MF. He's not emphasizing that enough in practice, clearly. For coaching out penalties, you need to stop it everytime you see it no matter where you're at in practice and make it inconvenient.

I sat in the tigerdroppings thread for the final 5 minutes of that game laughing at LSU fans...sending screenshots and everything. That's how alot of you looked in our game thread. Just saying, it's pretty cringy.
Show me any game thread that isn’t ”pretty cringy” when their team is losing. It’s like saying water is wet.

Dukes has the 7th best total defensive in college people need to relax
I do think this is underrated. Duke has been blasting everyone they have played and has a really solid defense. Leonard being out could derail their season but otherwise they were headed to 9+ wins.

I may not be able to show you a game thread, but I can point out posters who aren't embarrassing themselves every 30 seconds like whinny little bitches. It was a Sat night prime time match up that lived up to the hype, I'm just glad I was able to watch while not telling a bunch of strangers exactly how I'm feeling every 25 seconds...lol

Some thoughts:
It’s obvious Parker was trying to lean on the run game and hope our big boys could create some push and creases. Duke dialed up some creative blitzes that were getting home. Hartman was either on the run or had guys in his face and at his feet quite often.
Sam didn’t have his best game but nutted up when it mattered. That 4th and 16 is as gutsy a play as you will ever see.
Mills and Cross played great games.
Freeman has built a winning culture in the program. Shit goes wrong in football games. This team had a tough task going in against a really tough opponent with a talented QB. They missed plenty of opportunities but never quit. You may not like his facial expressions on the sideline but he’s calm and cool and his team plays hard for him.
Please never play for a field goal with this loose cannon. Ever.
Get home, get healthy, watch some film and get better. And please get our speed to the corners. Good things will happen.

Can someone please explain the targeting penalty on Botelho to me? I watch games all day long where players are diving and basically sphering at kneecaps and have never seem a targeting penalty called. I can guarantee most are leading with the crown of the helmet. The way I saw the calls was hit high penalty, hit low no penalty even if the dude's knee is blown until the call last night.

Freeman is getting abused by officials so something has to change in the sideline

It needs to be overturned…it can be, but will it … that’s not at all the intent of the rule, you could call that every play almost

Agree with most except the part where Freeman built a winning culture. Kelly did his last five years. At best, Freeman has carried that on.

The one silver lining in all of this is the obvious one - we got the win whereas last year this was a loss. (to a far inferior team as compared to Duke). At least OSU only beat us once this year, amirite?

That said, I am VERY concerned about the offense, starting with Parker...

The game plan was to run the ball all night and utilize Evans… what was the secondary plan/adjustment if they stopped the run

Looks like it was literally to stick with it hoping it will open up, it finally did our last 2 offensive plays… frichan lucky and terrible lack of adjustments

That’s one thing I noticed when comparing him to Elko. TBF, I’m going by body language so MF could be yelling all the right things & Elko looks like the typical red ass.

So why go back and read it? I mean we all agree it’s silly and no one takes it seriously. I’m been on message boards since mid-2000 and game day threads were the same then as they are today. That’s a weird type of voyeurism to stalk a game day thread in real time while a “Sat night prime time match up that lived up to the hype” is going on.

The truth is that it is targeting because he did lead with the crown of his helmet and it doesn’t matter where. The problem is that it’s a call that normally no ref would make since it was below the chest. The fact that this call came down from the booth also is absurd.
