Nah, ball properly thrown and 58 would have been trailing by 10 yards.I know everyone thinks this play would have hit big but #58 was unblocked and most likely makes a tackle.
Greg didn’t say it but is this the reason we went got Sam? It looks like him knew where he was going and that’s was it. That’s a Pyne play right there.
Likewise, but it’s wine so it’s classier right?I'm also drinking on a Tuesday to continue to numb the pain.

Also, the single high safety breaks on that throw, hard to tell but he was there for help with tyree too. Tyree was probably the better option but there may have been risk thereThat was his first read and it was set up to go to Flores it's easy to say hey he's open but the play was designed for rico

This.I see a lot of rationalization in this thread. My opinion: we lost at home, at night under the lights to a below average OSU team starting an inexperienced QB with a head coach who is starting to be criticized because his teams are too soft to beat Michigan. Yeah, no moral victories here. We absolutely should have won this game. I refuse to rationalize this.
He's not a rookie Head coach. This was his 19th game as a HC.I won't rationalize, but I do realize we have a rookie head coach who is really green on the coaching side overall. And we have a DC that I have suspicions will eventually be shown the door, even though he is a good DC. I think we hire someone who runs a more college friendly, less complicated scheme the likes we used to have.
And I think our best shot coincides with the three young QBs, Minchey, Carr, and Knight who bring this program true quality depth and high ceiling potential play that this program has been missing for decades. That is when we become true year in/out contenders. This season is the warm-up act where MFMF and his staff figure out what it really takes to win on the big stage. We are going to figure it out.
We are progressing, first Clemson and Georgia (showing we belonged with elite programs, if a bit shy of the mark) and then OSU (showing we have real team depth and elite level play potential). We aren't there just yet, and I am not rationalizing this loss at all. But I see the trajectory the program is on and dammit, it is refreshing for a change. I have been a fan for 36 years, and it is nice to see the program getting closer to what it used to be in my youth.
I agree he didn’t lose it, but he didn’t play well, not like you want a 6th year guy to play. I agree with the poster who posted McCord > Hartman on Saturday.Hartmann didn’t lose this game.
Parker, Freeman, Washington lost that game.
Can’t believe any recruits would commit after that garbage ending. Still stings.
This is kind of where I am. There are no shortcuts to becoming a champion. You can’t skip any steps. Results don’t precede the “knowing” just like the material doesn’t come before the idea. That’s true for players, coaches and you and I. Still love all the pieces we have in place, we need to improve a couple of position groups, but I like the direction. We are progressing, first Clemson and Georgia (showing we belonged with elite programs, if a bit shy of the mark) and then OSU (showing we have real team depth and elite level play potential). Shut the program down! Irishdrunk is calling it!Hartmann didn’t lose this game.

Don’t shut it down. Reform it and make it better. Remember Kelly was supposedly “holding us back.” We haven’t cracked the Top 5 since Kelly left.Shut the program down! Irishdrunk is calling it!
How miserable is your life?
I'm as tough on freeman as anyone, but recruits would have absolutely loved the game/atmosphere and if ND is committed to keeping that up, recruits want to play in that environment that not many colleges can provide. First and foremost though they want to win, freeman has to show he can win consistently this year. 11-1, lets go, recruits will fall in his lap. 9-3 and we have major problems.Hartmann didn’t lose this game.

Oh no, we haven't cracked the top 5 in 17 games! LORD SAVE US! Did you see the QB play last year? That's still from Kelly. Did you watch the game this weekend? I know you saw it, but did you watch it? We belong. Look at 18 Stripes, we crushed in so many metrics. There is something within this team. Top 5 is so tough to always get to when you have the Georgias, Alabamas, Ohio States of the world flexing their NIL muscles and lower standards to athletes.Don’t shut it down. Reform it and make it better. Remember Kelly was supposedly “holding us back.” We haven’t cracked the Top 5 since Kelly left.

I meant this is his first head coaching job, just used bad wording. I should have called him a first-timer.He's not a rookie Head coach. This was his 19th game as a HC.
I know what you're trying to say. But ND clearly didn't have a game plan for how to run out the clock. We clearly didn't have a well coached plan for zone and how you defend the situation we were in with 3rd and 18. We took a timeout, you'd think to make sure everyone knew what they were supposed to do. I'm not confident our staff was smart enough to tell them defend the first down line, you aren't defending the goal line.
Then a lot of people didn't do their frichan jobs the last 2 plays on the staff.
My point, there's learning on the job, and there's what happened saturday. ND was not prepared for anything that wasn't a typical game situation coaches or players.
If we belong we beat duke this week by 14+, coming off that loss. This team should be so focused, angry, hungry, and ready to take it out on someone. Teams that belong don't lose 2 regular season games in a row, let a lone 2 in a regular season (rare).Oh no, we haven't cracked the top 5 in 17 games! LORD SAVE US! Did you see the QB play last year? It's always an uphill battle since 1993 for ND, and it isn't changing. That doesn't mean we aren't there. It just means we have to understand that for ND to compete we need to be a Top 10 team, with runs. If that isn't good enough for you, go somewhere else.
Freeman can turn this loss into a positive. He and the team could get better because of it and go 11-1. If we had beat OSU a let down vs duke would have been very very obvious and expected. I'll take 11-1 with a loss to OSU vs 10-2 and we beat OSU.I meant this is his first head coaching job, just used bad wording. I should have called him a first-timer.
And if you look at trajectory of great coaches, they need time and seasoning. The loss to OSU was bad but it is just one game early in his tenure. I have never seen a coach show up in year 1 or 2 and just dominate from then on out. Sometimes it takes a couple of coaching jobs before they figure it out on the big stage. My point is that fans have been frustrated at this team for awhile, but killing a first-time head coach when he has made obvious improvements over his predecessor, while dealing with that same predecessor's recruiting and roster failings, is a bit much.
There is another very outspoken coach whom the world fawned over who just got his ass handed to him by a clearly superior team. He came in this season with a much higher pedigree than Freeman, at least as a former player. Bad losses happen to good coaches, especially early on. It is simply part of life. You don't excuse it, but you accept that it takes time for people to grow. MF will be fine and I believe the program will be fine.
I agree in a vacuum. Granted, that isn't how things always play out.If we belong we beat duke this week by 14+, coming off that loss. Good luck with that. Sweet Dreams are always fun - but this staff really needs to prove it won't screw up a wet dream.Freeman can turn this loss into a positive. We'll see how freeman has this team respond. It will tell me a lot.
