That screen was there. Ohio State just made a play.
If hartman puts any air under that at all, its probably a first down and possibly 6. Im sure they are thinking even if its sniffed out its a very high probably of completion. I dont hate the call, and if they pop it and seal the game most criticizing it would be commending the guts to call it. It only sucks when what happens happened.
All that being said they probably win the game of they just run the ball there and dont run a slow developing run prior to that which caused to feel he couldnt make the handoff.
Painful loss. Both teams are physical and played tough. We have a lot of good young talent.
McCord is going to be good. He made some big throws tonight and bounced back quickly when he made mistakes.
Im torn on our coordinators. Its hard to want them gone when they put you within a play here and there from win over a talented OSU. Its maddening though that the defense always seems to have the wrong call that one or two plays a game that bite us in the games. On the third and 19 we had 4 guys overtop 2 WRs on the short side of the field. They had 3 guys on the wide side and we had 4. It was a weird alignment. They had harper over egbuka then had him drop out on the snap to undercut the deep out on the wide side (a long throw i would have let McCord make if he can and that WR was already covered and tried bringing the deep safety up to pick up the seam while the LB On that side covered the TE. 3 man rush was fine, but Harper needs to be manning up on egbuka, short side linebacker drops shading towards the middle the middle taking pressure off the safety on the shirt side seam. Would allow them on the wide side to cover man with a Safety overtop and the short side linebacker also providing support to the crossing route or TE running some of skinny post while you have 3 guys cover 2 WR wide on that side.
Whatever throw McCord makes is much tougher and likely forces them into something short of the sticks and time may run out or they get one more play from maybe the 8-10 yd line.
