(My lack of recruiting stress these days may be because I'm getting old; may be because the portal has ruined college football... not totally sure)
I initially felt the same way, and I certainly still feel that way when we’re getting poached. But it does give comfort knowing that at the end of day on signing day if there are needs, they can still be filled. That’s what has taken my concerns for recruiting down a notch.

Serious question coming, and forgive me as ND recruiting has made me this way. What are the real odds he ends up signing? Like I'm dead ass serious are we at least 75% or could this be 50/50 to the finish line?

Hate to interrupt the positivity parade but I had the exact same thought. Feel like he might be reconsidering in December if we go 7-5. Definitely need to improve on last year to avoid the defections we had last December.

I’m an extreme pessimist and even *I* would be beyond words if Notre Dame finished 7-5 this season.

1) If ND goes 7-5 this year, we have much bigger problems than holding onto KVA.

2) I really don't see KVA flipping. Anything is possible in this new crazy world, but KVA literally took everything into consideration and made a final choice. I don't see this like a Canion or Bowen situation, where they kind of committed spontaneously and then we were wondering if that would stick. KVA and his family left no stone unturned when it came to gauging where he was going.

Vegas set the ND season win total at 8.5, meaning there is roughly a 50% chance we win 8 games or less. 7-5 is very much a possibility lol.

Last year's squad was less talented and had a ton of things go wrong, and they finished 8-4.

For this team to go 8-4 again, they'd need even more stuff to go wrong.

Cross, basically, already confirmed he’s coming back.

Cross, Onye, and Rubio would be 3 guys that will have, likely, by that time starter level experience. Ford is a former top 100-150 prospect. Who will be a Junior. Donovan Hinish has shown flashes that he could be part of 10 DL rotation at some point. And that leaves out the possibility that highly ranked prospects will be ready to play as Sophomores.
Rubio struggled last year so for your take to work he has to take a huge step forward this year. Obviously onye and ford are unknown at this point. Possible that we’re fine in 24, yes, but hard to be confident right now.

What this recruitment has taught me is that we need to find a way to get more top recruits to go on a “spiritual retreat” before making a decision!

Welcome to the Irish Asa. Love this pickup!!!

Haha! Manti part 2.
Jim Harbaugh is a devout Catholic (Jim Harbaugh: My priorities are 'faith, then family, then football') Not only has he done mission work (Jim Harbaugh - Wikipedia) but he is openly pro-life and has taken a lot of flak for that. He is a strange individual, but never doubt his Catholicity it is pretty well established.

Yeah, I knew he was Christian but figured he had become Protestant since he had been married for a long time and had kids then got a divorce and remarried quickly.

That would be a reasonable conclusion, as I wouldn't think the first marriage was eligible for an annulment. However, as recently as last summer he and his new wife were described as Catholic and offering to raise any children a player or someone on his staff could not raise. I agree with those who think he is a strange dude, but it was always uncomfortable for me that BK was clearly for abortion rights, while Harbaugh spoke out against it. https://www.cnn.com/2022/07/27/sport/jim-harbaugh-abortion-michigan-spt-intl/index.html People are complicated I guess.

No, it means a handful of oddsmakers think that and that includes the chance of Hartman being injured at some point.

Well, he would have two seasons to take a step forward. Same goes for Onye and Ford.

So, no. For my take to work I don't need a singular player to make a huge leap in one season. I need a couple/few guys from a large group to make consistent progress over two seasons.

If you’re betting on a majority of the depth chart not developing over the course of two seasons, you’re going to be wrong a lot.

I wouldn't say Rubio struggled last year. He was good in spurts as a rotational guy and showed consistent progress.

He flashed. He just wasn't a consistent dominant presence. He was a true sophomore, so that shouldn't be all that surprising. But he was a highly ranked DL prospect for a reason.

He had his struggles early on. I remember watching the BYU game and him getting completely blown off the line in a few drives. Improvements were made as the year went along.

But, it should also be stressed that the future of the interior DL does not rest on Rubio's shoulders alone

There is a good combination of size, experience, and young talent. Good coaches make that work with one Spring Camp and Two Fall camps to go.

Yep-- Jim's comment was as ballsy as it comes: "Any player on our team, any female staff member, or any staff member, or anybody in our family or our extended family ... that doesn’t feel like after they have a baby they can take care of it, we[‘ve] got a big house. We’ll raise that baby.”

That is putting your money where your mouth is.

I remember because I said to my sons, "Dammit. This makes it much harder to hate Michigan." So I have temporarily shifted my unadulterated hatred to Ohio State.

I don't watch film much these days.
Watched his.

Is it me or does he play like a college LB already? I don't remember most HS kids being that patient and diagnosing plays like he does. Honestly looks better than Marist out there.

Jamie pointed out something similar in his "Film Don't Lie" review of KVA. Said he sorts through the blocks better than a lot of college players already.

Here's the full review as well:

Worth reposting for the lulz. It's still real to me, dammit.

He said to the first girl, “keep your hands up, thumbs down,” and he showed her the proper motion with his own hands. When she didn’t get quite right, he grabbed her wrists and showed her how to position her hands. He then paced off 15 yards, held the ball in front of him, squatted like he was under center, patted the ball hard, took three hard steps back, planted his back leg and fired the ball at the first girl. As he let the ball go, you could hear it click as his fingernails hit the ball and, I shit you not, as the ball whizzed through the air you could hear it ssssssssssss… THUNK! It hit the girl in the shoulder and knocked her down.

“Come on, let’s go!” Jim barked. While Girl #1 picked herself up, Girl#2 gamely grabbed the ball and lobbed it back. Again, Jim got in his QB squat, smacked the ball, did a hard three-step drop-back and fired the ball at Girl#3, she ducked but the ball hit off the top of her head and went into the street. Girl#2 ran after it while Girl#3 sat on the ground rubbing her head. When Girl#2’s throw back to Jim was short, Jim got a bit annoyed, and set the girls up in a relay so that two girls were about 25 yards away, and the third girl was halfway in between so that that girls could throw to her, and she would run the ball to Jim. For the next 5-10 minutes, he was firing balls at these two poor girls, knocking them down or hitting them in the face about half the time. He was 100% oblivious.

My buddy played for him at Stanford. Said he was actually a great guy but crazier than you could imagine. Like a football Sheldon Cooper.
Did your buddy say anything about Harbaugh's conspiracy theories on chicken, how it's a "nervous bird" and not to eat it because it's responsible for an illness injected into the human population?

so hes got a fucked up hand from his playing days and every time he would go to high five someone there was like a 2 second delay.
