With the Canion news still kind of fresh, I would assume Saldate is/was one of their first choices to be the replacement?

Probably their 50th choice (not being sarcastic). They just aren't able to land them. Obviously liked Wingo, graham, mclellan a lot..... but clearly Ohio state is eating our lunch at WR and LB right now.

Irish fans should be very happy with WR recruiting. Ohio State is eating everyone's lunch at receiver.

You want to push the “I’m a knowledgeable realist, not a pessimist” explanation of your nonsense so hard, but the bolded is a prime example of your over-the-top negativity. No way in hell are they looking 50 spots down the remaining WR board and saying yes to his commitment so quickly.

That process started a year ago or more..... 50 is a made up number absolutely, but they probably reviewed and liked a significant number of WRs more than this person in different phases. Yes this last phase they probably reviewed a handful of receivers they feel are under the radar and like him, but that's due to not being in good shape with everyone else they had wanted.

I like to balance optimism with pessimism. You can't go from Canion to Saldate and be excited despite how Raw canion is. This isn't like getting hillman last year after we missed on all the safeties we really wanted. That was someone to be excited about.

Honestly, if they were going to take a smaller WR as a fallback, why not just put the full-court press back on Robinson a few weeks back before he committed?

Or maybe they decided they just didn't like his development very much after all?

Many if not most of the beat/evaluators see Robinson as a slot only. Whereas it appears Saldate could play the field as well.

Driskell just said on his show he wasn’t going to talk about him today, that he was going to break him down more later, but likes him.
Said he is really smooth & is one of those kids who is faster than he looks because how smooth he moves.

But is he quicker than fast, or faster than quick?

Ball skills and speed. He’s a good prospect. Jayden Thomas’s Counting Down the Irish has me thinking Soldate will punch above his ranking by the time he leaves ND.

Matt at ISD just logged a prediction to land him.

Despite not having ideal length, he's not like Robinson, where he is just a slot. He has the catch radius, route skills and speed to play any spot.

I think it’s safe to say he has decommitted from Oregon St & silent to ND.

I didn’t think 247 allowed you to log a Crystal Ball for a kid if he was already committed elsewhere, which means he must be uncommitted in their system.

And the picks are at 7’s, which usually means it’s over already.

So is he way underrated or are we shopping in the old aisle again?

Honest question, I have no idea.

I’d prefer to think option A.

This is a pretty quick contingency, when they could’ve waited longer to see who blew up during their senior campaign to steal from lower P5 schools.

Also, his weaknesses (from what I see on his Hudl tape are footwork and route running) are the kind of thing that can be shown during offseason work. It's possible that ND already has seen the improvement.

He’s Irish.

Singer just put in a pick for him, which means he read Loy & called the kid to hear it for himself.
