He could still turn it around, but he's looking like the worst hire on the new staff. DL has been THE best position group on the team over the last decade. Reliably productive year in and year out, with consistently good depth. He seems to have erased that in a single offseason. Incredibly disappointing.
Worse than HH?

Agreed. I just read in another thread that he was OSUs DLine coach last season? Is that correct? Didn't they stink in that department?

Washington getting absolutely trashed by OSU fans saying “I told you so”. Some fans said he was a great recruiter but horrible talent developer (see last year) and then most fans said he wasn’t a great recruiter or great talent developer.

But a good pal of MF apparently

Yeah everyone thought every coaching change was an upgrade. Doesn’t look that way now.

Wish we had guys like McNulty and Taylor around to “help” Rees and a head coach who has a little offensive experience.

Everyone is buggin' out on Rees and Hiestand. Early returns on the DL are definitely worth questioning.

2023 and 2024 DL recruiting is going quite well. The 2022 DL Room at The Gug needs to show a lot more going forward, especially if the defense is going to need to drop haymakers for this team to win games. They've looked dead assed in the fourth quarter twice so far.

I am not blaming the Scott deal on him because I thought it was a loooooong shot with Him anyways. But I did expect a little better recruiting from him.

And maybe I was expecting to much from him.

He’s recruiting and coaching worse than elston did at ND…. And the consensus was elston wasn’t a good enough recruiter

There’s a lot of talent on this years dline, just not a ton of interior size. It should be an extremely disruptive unit. Big year for Washington and the line

As usual, insane overreaction and not remotely accurate.

Wild Bateman is 3, his Defenses at UNC were just awful

I'm not surprise, I know a lot of people think Al Washington needs to do better but I like him. Recruiting wise he got a real solid group last year, this year I like 3 of the 4 guys we have committed (not too high on Sevellano). Of the nine guys he's landed 7 are ranked as top 200ish guys by at least one service. He also had a hand in getting Ausberry and KVA according to services, who I think are the two best LB's we've landed in the past two classes. The '25 class looks to have some dudes with legit ND interest.

I’m not high at all on the 23 class dline, maybe Vernon if he keeps his act together and is dedicated, but Washington didn’t land him.

Mukam looks slow to me, maybe traore develops. Houston needs to change his entire body.

I’m higher on the 24 class as he’s landed some good under the radar players

Ausberry over Bowen IYO?

I like Ausberry a little better because he gives us that play in space backer. I think he's a little more advanced than Drayk is too currently. Both are really good though and potentially, the best 1-2 punch we've had since Coney/Tranquill. They compliment each other really well. I think Zinter also flashed in the spring game too.

Off subject but what's the over under on Washington's waist line? 46.5?

This guy took a lot of heat last year and early this year. But Al Golden isn't the only "Al" coaching his ass off.
Let's pump the brakes. This was the 1st game in which the DL imposed its will this season.
