“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

- MLK
Read more of what MLK said. For instance, from his book "Why we can't wait",

“Among the many vital jobs to be done, the nation must not only radically readjust its attitude toward the Negro in the compelling present, but must incorporate in its planning some compensatory consideration for the handicaps he has inherited from the past. It is impossible to create a formula for the future which does not take into account that our society has been doing something special against the Negro for hundreds of years. How can he be absorbed into the mainstream of American life if we do not do something special for him now, in order to balance the equation and equip him to compete on a just an equal basis?

“Whenever the issue of compensatory or preferential treatment for the Negro is raised, some of our friends recoil in horror. The Negro should be granted equality, they agree; but he should ask nothing more. On the surface, this appears reasonable, but it is not realistic. For it is obvious that if a man is entered at the starting line in a race three hundred years after another man, the first would have to perform some impossible feat in order to catch up with his fellow runner.”

It's pretty disrespectful to keep trotting out that quote in support of things MLK would not support.

I think it’s fine to suggest that I agree with Dr. Martin Luther King on one point. Rather than disparage the man on the points I disagree with him on. I respectfully disagree with Dr. King on this point.

Stop with the faux outrage.

You aren't agreeing with him though. You are taking one excerpt, from his most famous speech, and applying to to whatever you want despite what you are defending/supporting being explicitly against his beliefs.

Is disrespectful to him and it's disingenuous.

He was alive when affirmative action began and said a whole lot in support of it. Do you not care about his actual feeling about a topic when you casually use his words to support it?

I am agreeing with his quote. And I don’t think I’m speaking for MLK just quoting him to make a point.

I can cite a quote and agree with the quote and then completely disagree with other things he says. I can remind people like you and even Mr King that this quote along with his feelings on affirmative action contradict one another. If I have to treat a black person differently because he’s black then I’m judging a person by the color of their skin not on their character.

Since you are apparently all for affirmative action, what is the end goal and when do we consider this goal achieved? What is your measuring stick?

Lol, "I can do what I want".

Sure. You can. Not trying to imply you can't. I'm just judging you for it.

Now you are misquoting, how disrespectful and disingenuous.
I have deeply held religious beliefs about it. No further explanation needed.
That doesn’t even come close to answering the question. I won’t hold you to coals to answer like I deserve an answer but what a cowardly way to answer the question.

I was paraphrasing your attitude. Lol "cowardly". Yeah that's it.

Do you just grab any old quote from famous people to support your opinions? So what, if the famous person didn't say it in the context YOU are using it in.

I listen to what the vast majority of black voices say about topics relating to the Black community. I have never been in a place where I believe I can say what is best for them.

Do away with legacies and I'll start to believe this fantasy talk about wanting admissions to be "fair". Otherwise it's just more nonsense.

Here is a black writer/historian's thoughts, which are way more important than mine.

Thoughts on the "my sky god says I can't take your business" ruling?

That's not what the ruling said. She said she'd do business with gay people. Just not gay weddings.

Should a Jewish web designer be required to make my Nazi fan club website? No. Similar idea.

So anything that hints at being gay? What constitutes a legitimate religion, my religion says interracial marriage is wrong?

Yeah I don't think Karen designing a web page for presumed gay people is the same as Nazi/Jews.

This isn't a free exercise of religion situation

Holding: The First Amendment prohibits Colorado from forcing a website designer to create expressive designs speaking messages with which the designer disagrees.

I agree with the article generally but the Roe stuff is the result of an ignorant polling population.

Roe/Casey mandated no restrictions until "viability" (whatever that means). But a very healthy majority of people approve of abortion restrictions well before the Roe/Casey standard would allow. The only rational conclusion is that most people don't know what Roe/Casey actually were or meant. If you ask a person on the street, they would probably say it made abortion legal in some fashion, not that it precluded state bans into prior to something like 6 months.

It sorta reminds of the Colorado Cake/Website cases. When people aren't aware of what cases actually do, it skews the data badly. Now people are asking themselves "whether a web designer should design a gay wedding website" instead of "whether the state should be able to mandate someone express or not express themselves in a specific way?"

The business was not discriminating against the people. The business was discriminating against doing things they felt went against their religious beliefs. You obviously have a beef with Christians and Christianity using the “sky god” bullshit. Mocking religion. Classy.

My point still stands, what constitutes a legitimate religion? If someone started a religion that said black people shouldn't marry, would they get the same protections?

Also - LOL @ "beef". You do realize that I support ND? If I had a beef with christians I probably wouldn't be cheering for them. The "sky god" comment is directed to those that pick and choose which messages they want to bastardize to fit their own hateful thoughts - this can apply to any religion. Maybe time to take a step back and relax.

Doesn't even need to be religious. I can dislike gun culture and refuse to paint drayer holding a gun, if I am understanding things correctly. Or I can refuse to paint a portrait depicting South Dakota State boat racing North Dakota State in last season's FCS championship I presume.

I guess who cares is my answer. Why not just move on to the next business? I’m a Christian man and if a business refuses to sell me a gallon of milk I’ll move on to a business that will or will not care.

I need a painting of me and a gun. Flag in the background. Maybe a warship. Bald eagle in the sky. Maybe even Touchdown Sky God In the horizon. You could push a button like Big Mouth Billy Bass and it would play a Lee Greenwood song. Can’t imagine anyone not wanting to be in the Louvre for that one.
