Not exactly true. Per capita the city is much safer than many other big cities, including Detroit. Violence in Chicago just happens to be much more visible for various reasons (political, drill music, etc).

STUNNED my city (Rochester, NY) isn’t on this list !!

It's based on violent crime. Murders, armed robberies and the like. Felonies. A lot of the stuff you hear about in SF is more like petty crime, public nuisance, misdemeanors. But also SF is one of the wealthiest cities in the country. Rich techies aren't holding up no gas stations, even if there are a lot of homeless addicts living in tents downtown.

Either way, those sort of numbers get blown out of proportion as they relate to the average person. I lived and worked in St. Louis City - #1 with a bullet - for a decade and, while yeah there are some BAD neighborhoods, the worst thing that ever happened to me was my car got stolen (and recovered the next morning).

Anyway, South Bend is fine. The area south of campus is a lot nicer than it used to be (largely because Notre Dame has colonized it). It's probably not a "plus" for us on the recruiting front, but for most kids I'm not really sure it's the "minus" it's so often made out to be. LA and Miami are more fun, sure, but I doubt Clemson or Tuscaloosa is actually more exciting?
South of campus has helped ND get some semblance of a small college town feel. I imagine they always direct recruits to that area. The new houses and subdivisions going up south of campus are extremely expensive as well and with that comes demand for more stuff. Eddy St is nice, but it feels just slightly too small to me to be considered a baller college town. There is no way to come remotely close to accommodating all the guests on Gameday. No chance I’m getting a seat to grab a burger at Brothers for instance.

It sounds like they are going to be adding a major residential and commercial space and a parking garage on the northern end of campus that will be somewhat similar to Eddy St.

“St. Joseph County Economic Development Director Bill Schalliol says there will be some similarities to the Eddy Street Commons project, and some differences.”

ND campus is getting cooler for sure. Between this northern project and the new Gug, + Eddy St, ND surrounding area/“town” looks nothing like it did in the past.

(choking back vomit) Tuscaloosa's downtown strip has actually gotten a whole lot better in the past 15 years. It's a pretty great place to go for a game / attend college. Tons and tons out of-of-state students are pouring into Tuscaloosa. They've done a decent job of building new buildings all throughout while keeping an antebellum feel. The women are top-notch; however, as far as SEC towns goes, Tuscaloosa still pales in comparison to Athens, Fayetteville, Knoxville, and Oxford. I can't speak on Clemson, though. I just know that it's supposedly on a nice lake...Greenville isn't too far away, and that's a very nice, underrated town.

ETA: As a LSU fan and alum, sadly I would not send my children there. Loved my time there and (admittedly, biased) the campus is undoubtedly one of the nicest in the country, but Baton Rouge crime is absolutely abhorrent.

That’s a good spot to be. If I had to choose between Ann Arbor and SB I would personally choose SB (even as a college student) for its proximity to Chicago, the nearby beaches, breweries and awesomeness of the Michigan west coast, and that the Notre Dame/Eddy St area combined with Mishawaka/Granger is relatively similar enough to Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor literally has nothing good surrounding it besides quiet neighborhoods and it’s not a big city at all. From my pov, Detroit and Toledo are not fun. From a purely statistical safety standpoint since safety was mentioned, SE Michigan is one of the least safe areas in the nation, so I’d actually give the edge in safety to the Michiana area. While Ann Arbor itself is safer than SB and there are parts of SB that I probably wouldn’t hangout in at night, I’ve never felt unsafe there at all, particularly near campus. That said, I highly doubt any of our 6’3 250 lb dangerously athletic football players are scared of SB not consider that at all in their decision making. Updated Eddy St. ND is a lot more enticing than the ND I remember as a child.

Eddy Street meaning Eddy Street Commons? Just asking because that's the area where I booked my hotel for this fall's game.

Yes. They have an Embassy Suites and a Fairfield Inn. I’ve stayed at both. They are clean and new. You’ll love the location if you haven't been there before. Walk out the hotel and you have bookstore, restaurants, and campus steps away.

Yep. Staying at the Fairfield Inn. First time to South Bend, and I'm freaking ecstatic. The hotel prices were cringeworthy, but I'll pay more for convenience. I love that it's directly across the street from the stadium/campus, and within a stone's throw to certain restaurants and ND institutions (Linebacker, etc).

Are you aware that the abbreviation "ETA" stands for "estimated time of arrival?"

I wasn't saying Chicago isn't nicer. Its a much better city. I grew up just outside Detroit and my high school was in the city. My first job was in Chicago where I lived for 6 years. I was saying Chicago has alot more random murders. Like that 85 year old woman who was shot a killed. Detroit you have to be hanging with the wrong crowd to get killed.
Do you have a link for this story? I genuinely don't recall this happening.

All the competiting info on our recruits this cycle just leads me to believe that the ND staff is giving away significantly less to ”insiders” than previous years.

i think its just a change in whats being provided.

instead of a more true update and inside info, i think there's a far greater attempt to control the perceptions

FYI Wiltfong still thinks Miami is in the lead and mentioned that ND has also been a leader throughout his recruitment. He mentioned we are trying to get him back on campus this summer and during the season. He did not mention Michigan or OSU making a move after OVs
Wiltfong thought ND led for Rushing going into the OVs despite every ND outlet telling him otherwise.
Even the Miami insiders said that Miami isn’t ahead anymore, that Scott wants to stay up north.

Yeah not sure what he’s hearing. I just thought it was strange that he didn’t mention Michigan being a real threat considering what every ND outlet is saying.

When is ND's BBQ event?

Singer said July 30th. That falls on a Sunday though so maybe 29th or 30th. He also said fall camp starts that week and the Notre Dame coaches are on vacation during the dead period in July.

If he shows, that BBQ better be on-fucking-point. Brisket, ribs, burnt ends, pulled pork, chicken thighs, all the fixins'...
This guy leads with brisket... Come on bro. Save that shiit for corned beef. When it comes to Bar-B-Q, it's Chicken & Hogs.

Though I' will admit, Brisket Burnt Ends won't get thrown in the trash if it's put in front of me, Pork Belly Burnt Ends are where it's at as they are brought down from the heavens on the wings of angels.

I know I should be in time out right now but nothing beats a good brisket

Smoked brisket with no sauce. Sauce is needed on lesser meats to add some flavor.

Never had grilled brisket
What’s the good stuff, your majesty? All I can think of is smoked bologna

EDIT: meant to quote BobbyMac, sorry!

SB is close to Lake Michigan. St Joe is 35 minutes away and the western coast of Michigan is by far the most beautiful part of the Midwest. Beach towns after beach towns all the way up the western coast. ND people might not even know it’s there. It’s crazy how close it is and how much a world away it is and how many students miss it bc they’re home in the
ND should have a little campus there. Fishing club etc.
