I don't think the staff cooled on this one as much as he wasn't reciprocating the interest. Similar to Lindsey, only so much they can do before it's obvious they need to look elsewhere. Plus, with unlimited OV's. Focus the attention elsewhere for now and maybe pick it back up in fall after we start housing fools.

Staff has been trying to get Umeh on campus for more than a few months now.

Something has always come up.

Gotcha. Thanks.

I really wanted another toolsy, high-upside Canadian prospect on the DL.

How do I cope?

Not sure whose on the board who the staff feels good about, I don't think Rushing is coming here, Justin Scott I don't feel good about and TJ Lindsey I believe stays home and goes to Ark.

the IB think we have a good shot with him and plus he just told Ryan recently that our irish are recruiting him the hardest.

Wants to OV but we will see if that actually happens.

Talks about ND and Michigan a bit. Michigan sees him as an edge, ND as 3T. Don't let Michigan scam ya, kid.

I really like the class where it stands. It’s been discussed ad nauseam on this board. Obviously it would be perfect if they can land a true projectable difference maker like a Justin Scott or Elijah Rushing, but the staff has alot of length and upside with the guys in the fold.

Sevillano is a perfect nose tackle for a 3-3-5. Young looks to be that DE/DT tweener that can play in both the three and four man front base defenses, as well as sub-packages. Mullins, same thing. Can be that Justin Ademilola type that can play both base end and VYPER thanks to his movement skills. Loghan Thomas is the perfect future VYPER, and I believe is the prototype Freeman has been looking for the last two classes to be that player.

More would be great. But what we have is great for THIS defense.

It falls well short of the board's DLine. And that is what truly matters.

Fong'd to Stanford.

Adding him to my list of potential Fall flips if ND has the season we think it can (though I do think he's overrated).

Agree - Stanford is coming off a 3-9 season and lost a nfl draft pick in McKee and has unproven depth behind him. This season is going to be a slog for them.

I also think he's overrated but even if he's overrated that'd still be huge pickup. Stanford is doing quite well. Funny how that conversation started a few weeks back.

Umeh would've been nice to have as the 5th DL in the class, but holy hell is he overrated.

On3 has him rated as the 29th overall prospect in 2024. What the actually hell is Power smoking this year?

Meanwhile, Bryce Young is rated outside of the top 200.

I'm sorry, but Bryce Young is the better prospect and it's not even close. The only reason Umeh is rated higher is because he was further along a year ago and the services are sticking to their guns. Meanwhile, Bryce Young is being treated like he's still 6'4 210 like he was over a year ago, despite the fact that he is now 6'6 and 250, possibly even bigger now. Not to mention Young is flat out the better athlete, with better twitch and the more physical player.

These rankings become more and more nonsensical with each passing day. There's a reason why the staff cooled on Umeh, and part of it is the pair of physical monstrosities that we have committed at DE in Young and Mullins.
