There are still some concerns about him at the safety position from what I’m told, but they love the 6-2, 200-pounder athletically and as a fit in South Bend. They are currently deciding right now if they are going to push and try and get this one done.

Even if they push, they have to convince him to leave home. If ND doesn’t close the door, he visits UNC next week & I think he stays home.

Yep. I’m just confused what the purpose of the OV was if they aren’t even sure he’s a safety

People will pile on O’Leary, but the things happening with Safety recruiting last year & this year have been more Freeman/Bowden things.
O’Leary isn’t the one making academic decisions, letting commits take a dozen trips to other schools, passing on kids who want to come, cancelling visits, not sure what position a kid will play, etc…those are all above his pay grade.
Somebody has to call out Freeman & Bowden on this.

I’m generally one to trust the staff…but this just seems like such a clusterfuck. It may end up fine, but right now I don’t even see a plan and it feels like we’re panicking in June.

Seems the plan, front what I can piece together, is Tae, Urlacher, Bennie-Powell & push for Andrews as the 4th. And try to flip Beasley.
Ziglar is so much better than Bennie-Powell in my opinion. Whatever.

I hope the staff's evaluations are correct. Otherwise they'll need to over recruit at Safety which will take scholarship spots away from other positions.

Agree… don’t see it at all with Powell at safety

Yeah, I don’t get it. Ziglar seems more of a safety to me than Urlacher, Bennie-Powell, Minke, or Miles.

I can say the same thing about Urlacher. This safety class is widening the position talent gap between Notre Dame and its competition.
It's doubtful that Ziglar will end up in this class, so unless Powell is a difference maker or has a lot of upside I wouldn't take him. I'd much rather just bring in another 1 year grad transfer for depth. The staff might not like that, but they should have done a better job recruiting. We can't afford for them to have a bunch of misses at Safety to the point where they have to over recruit at the position and have 9-10 Safeties on scholarship because of blown evaluations.

Roberts thinks ND did great on the visit, and ND pushed him playing multiple positions on D. But thinks ND got in too late & he stays in Carolina, probably South Carolina.

So, now Ziglar might not be a S but Powell and Urlacher are?

As someone else posted, this narrative building is getting rich. Pretty tough to stomach quite honestly. I'd rather just hear that they missed versus be fed this spider web of BS.

Heck, maybe Ziglar isn't a S. So, he's a LB? Is a 10.76 100M the fastest LB we have ever recruited? Certainly a much better Sniper/Rover target than Urlacher, right? Except Urlacher is a S?

But, in all seriousness. You played hardball with Mencke Jr. because of the plethora of S's lined up to play at ND. Of those S's, Robertson is a hybrid. Ziglar is a LB/hybrid? Andrews won't play football until 2026. And, Miles wants to go to TT, lol. All while Urlacher is a sub 6' S that certainly runs slower than Ziglar or Miles.

I was completely on board with adding the athletes and developing them. Always have been. I'm not sure what this has become.

This is a shit show and maybe worst of all is the narrative The Gug keeps pumping out.

So, a noteworthy correction to the above.

Apparently, it's not a LB or hybrid defender they see out of the 6'2 1/2 200 lb HS Junior. It's Cornerback. He's actually larger than JOK was at a similar age but he could play CB?

I don't know about everyone else but that makes it even more confusing. If you truly believe a young man, that big, is athletic enough to play CB, I would hope you take him every single time he's available, lol.

But, per Loy, they are unsure if they are going to push for him because he's not a S.

That's about Cam Hart's listed size but Hart is, what, 22 years old?

If Loy is correct, then they might have wasted a OV that could’ve gone to a pure Safety.
