Heard an interesting story I had never heard before. Before DiMaggio became a hitting sensation, he struggled with consistency. Ty Cobb told him to get rid of the 40oz bat and go to a 36oz bat. You know the rest of the story.

Mantle probably breaks the Babes record in '61 and possibly beats Maris if he doesn't get hurt. They were neck and neck until he got hurt. I can only imagine what Mantle's career numbers would look like if he hadn't been injured so much and didn't spend so much time in the nightclubs.
No doubt. I always forget that the AL expanded in ‘61 but the NL expanded the following year in ‘62 when the Mets & Colt ‘45s (Astros) were added. They had some anomalies that year too. Tommy Davis of the Dodgers led the NL in batting & RBI. TBF, his career was adversely affected by a horrible fractured ankle in ‘63 but he never approached those numbers again despite playing an additional 15 seasons.

Anyone see Evan Gattis’ tweets? Hope the dude is ok. Needs to lay off whatever he’s on.

Of all the crazy stats in baseball the one that I randomly think about the most has nothing to do with the actual game. The Brewers are the only team in the league to sell more brats than hot dogs. However, they sell so many more brats that there have been a few years where they sell more brats in their stadium than nearly ALL other teams' hot dog sales combined. That a lot of freakin bratwursts,...

The 1987 Brewers started 13-0. A few weeks later they lost 12 in a row. Finished 91-71 as a footnote in the Tigers-Jays pennant race.

Rays host Boston tonight.

Even with them beating up on the Tigers, Nats and A's who should all finish last this is really something else to see right now.

The Twins took the first two from the Yankees in a 4 game set in the Bronx. First time the Twins won’t lose a series in the Bronx since 2014.

Wow. A month ago people are probably thinking they deal him before the trade deadline to get more youth infused into their farm.

This is different.

OHoppe’s I just basically sinks the whole season imo and confirms Ohtani leaves or is traded. He looked like the RoY he was hyped to be and since he went down the staff has imploded.

For the record, I’d call the Padres and see if I can get one of their big bats, any of their top starting four, and a couple promising bullpen arms. I’d do it today.

Under no circumstance can you allow him to walk across town for nothing but a draft pick

O’Hoppe straight up for Brandon marsh was looking like one of those rare trades where both teams got better immediately.

It was pretty cool and nostalgic having Verlander and Scherzer back at Comerica Park for back-to-back starts; even better seeing the Tigers complete the sweep and send them home packing.

Surprised by the Mets slow start. I still expect them to make the post-season, but getting swept by my lowly Tigers is rough.

"The foreigners..." wow well done... there's no American players wearing chains.

Also, it's fairly easy to understand why he would be asked to take off his ring as a pitcher.
Baseball was better when there were 2 leagues, players didn't have translators, and shirts were tucked in.

It was under his glove you can't see it and it has no contact with the ball.

And pitchers like to take a ball and rub it in both hands sometimes. He could do that and scuff it, even if unintentional.
Plus, nowadays folks have access to the non-metal rings for physical activity. I think their made of rubber but that makes more sense and should satisfy both parties.

I said all along this was a stupid contract.

Rangers bailed the Mets out b/c they could’ve very well re-signed him. It’s too bad b/c he has an electric arm. Folks tried to compare him to Koufax in that he wasn’t going to be a stats compiler but more dominant in a shorter career. Difference is that Koufax was able to play through his pain (not saying it was right but there weren’t many option in the ‘60s) before finally calling it quits after the ‘66 season. DeGrom is now looking at his 2nd UCL reconstruction. You can’t pitch through that. I wish him the best b/c he was a rare talent.

I was perusing the MLB standings and it's almost impressive how BAD the AL Central is this year. Might be the worst division in all of sports.

The Twins are currently leading at 35-34. They wouldn't be better than 4th place in any other division in the entire league, AL or NL.

I have no clue what the Virginia coach was thinking tonight. He’s going to catch a ton of grief. All deserved.
