Here is the blue chip percentage (247) from Kelly's last 4 classes before Freeman arrived to help out with the 2022 class. These classes were all during seasons where ND won double-digit games.

2018: 14/27
2019: 17/22
2020: 10/17
2021: 14/27

Total: 55/93 (59.1%)

Here is the blue chip percentage from all of his other classes:

2011: 11/23
2012: 11/17
2013: 19/23
2014: 16/22
2015: 14/23
2016: 10/23
2017: 10/21
*2022: 18/22

Other classes: 109/174 (62.6%)

Total of all classes: 164/267 (61.4%)

*I included the 2022 class even though he left before the signing days were over. Not including 2022, the blue chip percentage was 59.6%.

Let's take a look at the blue chip percentage from Freeman's classes:
2023: 19/23
2024: 11/14

Total: 30/37 (81.1%)

The groupthink of some that believe Freeman’s recruiting classes are the same as Kelly’s classes is so damn annoying and flat out wrong.

THANK YOU.

Give us the athletes. You find a place for him. Numbers are never going to be a problem with the portal

Depends on how you're using it. It feels to me at least early on that ND intends on recruiting and using the portal sparingly. I think most of us here wish they would utilize it more but not go hard to the pole of making admissions the wild west. If they're looking to build a roster of leaders and maintain a particular culture within the program, it may not be such a bad idea in the long run.

We could be sitting here getting Justin Scott, Payton Pierce and Brandon Davis Swain but the situation has become so fluid now in both the long and short term, it's all kind of a superunknown. (That's a Chris Cornell reference on purpose) It's going to make for very interesting processes going forward.

Yep, some freeman homers still think it’s august of last year with recruiting. It hasn’t been that good of a last 9 months regarding recruiting.
Well I am a freeman homer. I think if BK was still here the recruiting would be a lot worse than it is now.
Freeman has managed to keep it about the same as BKs despite the fact it has gotten a lot harder for ND over the last 2 years.

I often remember them going 6-1 after that stupid Stanford loss, including a throttling of Clemson and a bowl victory against a mighty SEC program.

I rarely remember Peyton Bowen unless people remind me.

Kellys classes weren’t all that bad and Freeman’s aren’t all that great. They are about the same.
I never said that.

I said they are different and that’s the truth. Blue chip ratio and average recruit rating massively increasing is a much bigger indicator than team rankings on any given year with other teams taking larger classes.

Agree, but 8-4 hurt. I think it’s clear freeman is a better recruiter but he needs to win to realize it

Everyone is, it’s this year. It’s set up to have major wins vs top programs
To be honest - I disagree. There are still some major holes from where Kelly left us. It’s going to be another two years before Freeman hits his stride. I would love to be wrong of course.

Yes but so does osu clemson and usc… usc and ND just have proven really good qbs to rely on (Williams better than Hartman of course)

All the top teams other than usc are having to replace a multi year starter at qb, that’s huge. Bama, Georgia, Clemson, osu.

He went 8-4 with two very poor kelly recruiting classes and a d3 quarterback in his first year. Let’s give him a chance
Pyne is not a D3 QB.
This stuff needs to stop.
He won 8 P5 games.
He was 2nd string, & is basically what he is, a backup P5 QB.
And the talent Marcus Freeman had last year wasn’t poor Kelly classes.
They were infinitely more talented than Marshal & Stanford.

A lot of these things can both be true.
