I hope that ND is aggressive and they don't drag their feet. They said they were going to wait until the season is over, their season is over. If ND were still in play for basketball and other schools were looking to poach Brey the story would be out there.

Have we seen anything official (from ND) of who ND is after, who cares if the coach they are after is still playing.

If the coach can get Starling & Lubin to stay that is a huge win; Starling needs to stay in college at least 1 more year. Lubin is going to be good no matter what jersey he is wearing next season.

How about Zona, develop him into a Luke Harangody type of player.

I would also make changes to Purcell Pavilion....too friendly like ND football stadium.

Not a fan of the PSU or OSU coach, I would like them to go after Sweeney from the Mavericks.

What makes you “not a fan” of Shrewsberry or Holtmann?

How would we feel about Steve Pikiell? He's getting 5 stars to Rutgers and turned them into a winning program. I can't overstate how difficult that is here. Their facilities are garbage and they're in a recruiting ground that is constantly pillaged by the big dogs. They also just have a loser complex in Piscataway (maybe I am a little biased).
He would be a good hire IMO, but he’s coaching in the B1G and ND’s BB facilities aren’t the best. Hate to say it, but the MBB HC at ND isn’t a more attractive position than most programs.

While Holtmann makes the NCAA tournament his teams get bounced, nothing about his coaching resume stands out to me that he would be a great hire at ND, he would remind me of another Brey.

Shrewsberry hasn't shown me enough PSU is his first HC job (the IU win earlier today was nice).

If I had to choose between the 2 I would go with Shrewsberry, Purdue can recruit Indiana and I'd like to see ND win more recruiting battles in Indiana.

I wonder if Tom Crean will be contacted. He struggled at UGA (which most have) but he had some very good years at IU and Marquette. Great recruiter and is from Michigan. His style of play is fast which may not mesh well with what we’ve seen from ND in the past.

I thought I heard earlier today on CBS that Shrewsberry is one of Georgetowns targets.

Crean would be a good fit IMO.

So what has Sweeney shown you that u think would make him a better option? Just curious since he has no experience as a head coach and minimal experience in college. I think Shrewsberry has shown plenty in his 2 years as a head head especially in the last month or so.

(I’m just having a little fun with this btw. Not tying to argue or say ur right or wrong)

If Tom Crean is interested, you end the search now. There’s a not insignificant portion of the IU fanbase that still wishes Crean was in BTown.

That’s not a good reason to hire someone. Why should we care what that miserable fan base thinks?

Because he’s their former coach and they realize how good he actually was in Bloomington before they ran him off for Lil Archie Miller?

Yeah I would want him too if I went thru Archie but I don’t think IU fans wishing they still had him falls under the list of qualifications.

You’re right. I’m completely basing my assertion that he’d be a good fit on the fact that IU fans have learned to appreciate what they had in Crean. It certainly isn’t what he accomplished at IU and Marquette. It’s that the fans are pining for him.

It certainly appeared that way in your initial post

Sounds like you hang out with the ND Nation portion of IUs fanbase. Tom Crean would be a horrid hire and I have no idea what part of the IU fan base is pining for him that you're talking about. All my friends growing up in Southern Indiana arent sad hes been gone at all. He missed the NCAA tournament 5 out of the 9 years he was there. That's absolutely horrid for IU expectations. IU fans have expectations that are similar to ours as ND fans, and making a couple sweet sixteens isnt it. He only made one deep tournament run with a future NBA hall of famer on his roster. He was garbage at Georgia.

I think what IU fans in NE Indiana have realized is that Crean performed at a pretty high level in Bloomington and they haven’t been able to replicate his success since.

I’m not going to hold Georgia against him because nobody has ever done anything meaningful at UGA for hoops.

Then they're delusional. Three sweet sixteens in 9 years for a blue blood like IU is bad.

How have they been since?

But, realistically this is about Notre Dame basketball and CTC. As a Notre Dame basketball fan, sign me up for that, at this point. If Crean is a legitimate option, you have to explore it.

I wouldn’t hold Georgia against Crean. Bball is an afterthought down there and recruiting in the south isn’t the same as in the Midwest.

Creans best success was a small private school where success is based on finding kids that will end up being their 3-4 years with an occasional elite player thrown in.

That’s ND.

Who was the future HOF player?

Also, he did inherit the rebuild of all rebuilds pre-portal. Not sure those couple years should count against him.

I must have missed all that IU basketball success since Crean left.

Dwayne Wade. And Woodson has IU making the tournament twice in his two seasons, which is two more than Crean did in his first three seasons. All while Woodson rebuilds Archie Miller's roster.

Ahh thought you meant he had a HOF player at IU. I was hoping you weren’t going to say Oladipo lol.

I think Crean deserves another job just not sure it should be here. I get why IU fired him, but I thought he did a solid job there all things considered. I’d be intrigued by the hire but hoping they go elsewhere unless this job just really isn’t sought after.

Have fun....Shrewsberry's time at PSU he is 35-29 overall and 17-23 in conference play, that to me doesn't say go get this guy right now. I don't want to take anything away from him what he is doing now and if PSU beats Purdue his name may get mentioned for more jobs (besides ND & Georgetown).

For me with Sweeney it's been mentioned on here he would have a plan with NIL & I believe he is a ND football season ticket holder. He has a connection with ND already.
