Suppose Scott ends up committing to and signing with UGA.

It's going to be a major jolt to the system of all the dudes on Twitter in mom's basement that think just because Scott goes to a Jesuit HS in Chicago that Al Washington has to land him or he should lose his job. This simply is not the environment we're in going into 2023 with regards to college football recruiting. It's just not. UGA has a 6-3/300 DT that is about to be a top five pick in the NFL. Granted, he's from Apopka, Florida and not Chicago, but geography is sort of out the window anymore.

Frankly, I actually find it rather hilarious that UGA is coming all the way up here to sign a defensive tackle, of all things, but it's a punch in the gut from reality that this is what it is now and going forward.

Considering he plans to make a commitment in a couple weeks its not early. And I know you are not Comparing Scott to anyone else but he does seem like the kid that would stick with his commitment. Moore, Edwards and Bowen never seemed like that type.

For what its worth if its worth anything, Roberts did mention on the podcast monday that the staff is focusing more on the type of players who will stick to there commitments after all the shit that went down end of last year.
I don't think he is committing in a couple of weeks.

He'll announce January 30th that he's pushing back his time table to the summer so he can visit and make a "final" decision.

LOTS of our recruits took visits to other schools and committed to us...actually I bet all of them did!! Including Georgia... I mean the bedwetting is insane.. we have lost recruits sure.. so did Florida just now.. there top QB... it happens.. but to say we know 100 he is not coming here is insane... not to mention he is in our backyard and has a lot of pro-ND people around him... very different recruitment than Moore,Keely and Bowen... maybe he commits and sticks and maybe he doesn't.. but to just be like no way he is coming here just makes no sense..

Haha! UGA won the NC last year, and then lost 2 5-stars and a QB from Georgia to U. of Alabama while they were waiting for the NC.

Everyone's in the same boat.

It’s the timing of it that is leading many to be skeptical.

Some are going overboard but it does not inspire confidence when a top local(ish) player announces a commitment date at the end of the month, in a recruitment where ND feels to have jumped out as the favourite, with predictions from insiders, to… now, having the prospect being offered by the back to back national champs with a visit schedule this weekend following Georgia’s offer.

...and, apparently, deleting the tweet that announced a decision date.

was Jan 1, 2022 early in the recruitment of Bowen?

Timing of his commitment doesnt make it late/early, they still have a signing date that is a long ways away.

Justin has visited both Miami and USC. By all accounts, isn't distance from home said to be a factor he mentioned regarding both of these visits? I doubt a visit to UGA is going to change anything with regards to that being an issue for him. He's basically got ND, Northwestern and Illinois in terms of distance being favorable to him but only one of those made his top eight.

I don't see how people can judge Justin Scott and whatever he's thinking because Keeley, Bowen and Dante Moore all did a thing in the last cycle. It doesn't mean Justin Scott does that thing.

Also, wherever he winds up, get ready for a ratings drop. I think he's getting over flexed out there, especially from Rivals.com. This isn't to say he has potential at the P5 level and that Freeman/Golden/Washington shouldn't be prioritizing, but I know I'm not alone locally when I say that his national buzz might be overhyped at the moment.

This is where I'm at. By all accounts distance is a factor and those places are not getting closer to Chicago. Even if he picks another school at the end of the month or this Spring/Summer, the staff will stay on him and he's one that I could see working his way back to ND. That is if the staff wants him, at that time.

Separately, I'm not worried about this recruitment in the slightest right now. I don't think this is an indictment about Washington's recruiting, because so far it's been quite good. I don't think there should be a concern with DL recruiting for the depth chart, recent classes, or the '24 class as it's just so early.

There are a lot of very good prospects out there. We're not going to find them all on January 18th, 2023. For perspective, the '23 class had no idea who Brandyn Hillman and Kenny Minchey were on January 18th, 2022. Micah Bell wasn't even offered until March of '22. I could go on and on. Even if I could have the class completed now, I wouldn't. Too much development to track and guys for the staff to eval. Let's have some fun with it.

This kind of perspective and optimism simply isn't the majority, but it absolutely should be, and provided this is the line of thought within The Gug and a few minority pockets of this fanbase that I can encounter every so often I will be fine.

That Abasiri kid sure seems like someone that is a rough diamond and will get found out about the further we get to fall. Kind of player who is a three star recruit now but eventually winds up in the NFL if he plays his cards right.

Put me in the camp of those who would much rather this all happen now than in, say, October (which if Scott stays as highly-rated as he is now, would absolutely happen in October).

If he goes and sees Georgia and decides he’d rather buy what Notre Dame is selling, great, cross one of the biggest threats off the list. If he goes and decides he’s actually a Dawg, OK. God bless, keep in touch, and thanks for giving us time to find someone else.

If anything Scott immediately scheduling a visit to Athens is a good sign for us here. It means he wants to decide early and not drag things out. And 48 hours ago he was apparently going to decide for Notre Dame.

I tend to agree with this. Regardless, it doesn't look like this will drag out.

Quickly scheduling a visit to Georgia could mean he ends up in Athens, but I think there is a strong chance that this could also be a quick final visit just to confirm that ND is still the place for him. If he didn't visit a program like Georgia, he would always wonder what if.

lax come on they have all been in this business long enough to know the way that recruitment was going it was unlikely to be ND. Actions and the smoke at the end.

We can point to Moore as well.

The point remains that these guys dont have enough information to know whats happening next so by saying "im sticking with my prediction" means nothing in relation to what may actually unfold.
I don't understand this. I am a reporter, I am being told by every source that X is going to happen. What should I do with that information?

You guys seem to get upset that guys like Loy and ISD report what they have as opposed to editorializing. Or worse get mad that these guys can't accurately predict the actions of a teenager.

Bowen told everyone he was going to Notre Dame. The class thought he was coming. His mom was shocked that he picked Oregon. Moore committed to the staff. That was accurate information. Do you want them to lie? To go "with their gut"?

The whole recruiting industry is built of off the decisions of teenage boys. Guess what, they will surprise people sometimes. And even when all the smoke says X, they will sometimes do Y.

Justin Scott said he was going to commit on the 31st. All signs pointed to Notre Dame. That is what was reported. Now maybe things changed or maybe they haven't, who fucking knows? But because things changed, doesn't mean they were wrong yesterday. It is our fault for being so invested in something that won't be concluded until December.

Visiting Georgia. He gone.
Yep! The Dawg factor plus the fuckin' NIL. New era guys! Money talks, especially with teenagers. I wasn't confident with the Loy CB on this one from the get-go, so I'm not in a "distress mode" over this. After Payton Bowen's "delusional hat tricks" with LYING, etc. to the staff and his "future" teammatess the night before signing day (what a PRICK!), nothing will surprise me anymore on commitments. Plus, the portal is nothing more than what we did as kids .... trading cards! I'll give you so-and-so IF you give me this player. College sports of that past are gone! Again, as bad as it sucks, it's a new era and as fans, deal with it! Peace out and GO IRISH!

I am not upset. All I was saying is that we shouldn't take anything by a reporter saying he is sticking with his prediction for the exact reasons above. He is essentially saying the last info I got is what I'm going with.

Sticking with a prediction =/= confidence

Tying Bowen to every other recruit's situation is a narrative that has already gotten terribly old and stale. Move on and get over it, for those of you who have not. JFC.

Justin Scott has fuck all to do with Bowen. The end.
You know what is a slap dick move is telling others emoting on a message board what to do like your their mama

Having followed recruiting for almost 30 years, it's more entertaining than it ever was, especially factoring in the built in escape hatch the portal provides. The key is taking it for what it's worth: entertainment. Easier said than done, i know.
Hard to blame Scott for reevaluating his options when the 2x title winners come calling, who also put players at his position at an elite level.
Ps. I Hope Freeman is still recruiting Bowen. Or at least has a recruiting staffer regularly following up ghost writer style. Gone are the days of stopping recruiting a blue chip after the digital ink is dry. If Freeman thinks his talent is worth it, Bowen has shown he's a indecisive young man who's mind can be influenced/ changed. Stay on him.

I completely agree with the bolded. Same with any player we’ve really been in on. Keeley also. You never know how things are going to shake out in 9-12 months time.
