I don't think there is an "expectation" but we're all hoping there are some rumblings that begin this spring. He's big enough to form a nice NT duo with Aidan or Lacey or both. Some guys take 2-3 years for the lights to go on, I'm hoping Onye is a pleasant surprise

When asked about Smith, Golden labeled him “an inside guy,” which means he has the size and strength of a nose tackle with the mobility to play three-technique. Smith was brought aboard following the ACL injury suffered by projected Jacob Lacey backup Aidan Keanaaina.

Smith should comfortably slide into the No. 2 spot at nose tackle behind Lacey. Other competitors for playing time are youngsters Gabe Rubio and Jason Onye, a pair of red-shirt freshmen.

I think the most impressive thing about Onye is he isn’t a veteran player. He’s only been on campus for a year and that’s how he carries 290. There just aren’t a lot of dudes that carry weight like that. Making 290 look fit, lol.
