Freeman also mentioned in the press conference call just how special Notre Dame is when you go through the airport and people are talking about Notre Dame.

I think we'll know by next December
I think it's important to give any new coach three years before you rush to judgement.

Obviously if we have another 8-4 year or worse, that might be slightly concerning (depending on how much worse) but I still think our window is 2024 or 2025 to let these first two classes, which are insanely loaded with talent, get some experience.

Who is Dick Corbett? And why is his name in front of a coaching position?

ND is in good hands with Marcus. As expected there were ups and downs with this season and there still could be some growing pains for next season.

He is bringing in a great class for 2023, has a great start to 2024, and he will keep it going with recruiting.

I guess, it's just that most great coaches explode in their second year. I'll be thinking we maybe need to move on if we can't at least hit 10-2 next year. 8-4 doesn't cut it at notre dame.

Problem with that is the last coaching staff left him in a bad spot with both QB and WR. So he’s relying now on freshman and sophomores and/or transfers that were coached by other teams and (most likely) didn’t cut it and are looking for a fresh start.

It may take 3-4 years before we see what Freeman is capable of the previous coaches and assistants sucked and left a lot of holes in the shitty classes they brought in.

Yes holes, but they weren’t shitty classes. They were good, not elite

amusing side note: the ND women's basketball coach is the "Karen and Keith Keyes Family Head Coach". Yesterday's game was streamed live on ACCNX. Guess who did the color on the broadcast. Karen Keyes.

So you don't just get your name splashed around for those endowments, you also get to be a TV broadcaster! (She was surprisingly good)

Looks like she used to do radio for the New York Liberty and then online broadcasting for Jets games for years. So, not inexperienced.

Played for ND in the late 80s/early 90s and was a two-time conference player of the year, then played professionally and was a grad assistant for Muffett. Pretty cool actually. (And yes she married an ND tennis player who now runs a company that includes "capital management" in the name...)

Good ranking wise, but rankings don't factor in holes in the class.

If ND whiffs on certain positions, they have to essentially pray that the few guys they have on roster translate. That isn't sustainable.

We're seeing it at LB. Kelly and Lea banked on a loaded 2019 class, and took nobody in '20 and only 1 guy in '21. Then we are in a situation where Ekwonu is out, and the remaining three are starters, but none of them have played well outside of occasionally Bertrand. And because they took nobody in '20 and only Kollie in '21, there's very few to compete for reps.

LBs will be fine as long as Kollie & Snead start. Again, QB is what matters. Buchner isn't reliable.

That's what I mean though.

LB may be fine, but it isn't currently and it's because Kelly neglected to keep the flow of bodies going in '20 and '21. We basically needed to hope that Marist, JD and Kiser would all pan out, and they haven't. So we essentially need a redshirt freshman and a true freshman to bail us out. That's not a good situation. Now, I think LB will be fine. It just isn't currently, and that's the point when referring to the holes in the class that Kelly's classes consistently had.

They did recruit a few guys at LB who switched positions. Bothello, Schweitzer, and Kia. That said, 2 of those 3 will never see the field at ND.

I've never quite understood why Botelho doesn't play LB. He doesn't really seem long enough to be a great outside pass rusher, and he hits like a truck. No good in pass coverage, I guess?
