We have a recruiting and development problem. Since 2005 ND has only had 2 QB's become All Americans and that was Quinn (2005, 2006) and Clausen (2009).

No QB that ND has had since Clausen is championship material which means we must develop a championship QB and we have a terrible track record in developing an impact game changing QB. ND develops game managers at best. To argue my own point, I would say that Kizer had the potential if he would have stayed IMO.
This is fair. And I agree on Kizer. Ironically, BK is now getting credit (from some) that he’s the reason Daniels is so improved at LSU.

One thing Weis knew well was QBs. He could recruit them and develop them. But that was it.

BK was all over the board w/ various QBs, various OCs & various QB Coaches. Now he’s at a place that recruits itself the way ND did when we were growing up. I truly think he expected it to still be that way at ND & when it wasn’t, he wasn’t willing to up his game.

Some will push back & say BK has it tougher b/c he’s going head-to-head w/ Saban, Kirby, Heupel for these top flight recruits. That may be true if there were only ONE or TWO…but there’s plenty & if they already reside in the state of LA, it’s like shooting fish in a barrel for BK.

BK should get credit because he made Denbrock his OC, hired a good QB coach, and got Daniels in the transfer portal. I think if he promoted Denbrock after 2016 to OC, and let him be the play caller, ND would've had significantly better offenses in his last 5 years here.

If Rees wants to be back, he'll be back. Just saying.
agreed & I’m good w/ him being back. What OC can make lemonade w/ the lemons that are currently in the QB room? Yes, Rees is responsible for some of that as well but the future looks good.

I heard Mike Renner of PFF w/ some interesting opinion on TR. He thought early in the season, Tommy was basically auditioning for the NFL. Renner thought his play calling was good but only w/ the right personnel. In other words, Renner thought TR was trying to force a square into a round hole. He acknowledged, Rees has adapted and done well but wonders if this is just a stepping stone to the League.

I agree, but I also want Rees gone as Kelly hired him. Give Marcus the opportunity to bring in an upgrade at OC who will design a more dynamic offense.

The design has been there especially the last fews games. When we go 2 back sets on a passing play one of the two of them end up wide open in the flat or on a wheel route. Pyne has made up his mind where he is going with the ball so it doesn’t matter.

Yesterday Pyne went for Mayer had a guy like a yard behind him railing him and a safety coming over top a on the money throw that he hit to Colzie would have been a good completion. But he had Lenzy wide open for like 7 yards and Pyne A- didn’t see him or B- knew he was going to Mayer only. I’ll stop in the recruits topic.

I think with Rees play design and the ability to have an accurate quick release Minchey would do well here. He is still probably on his visit.

Right but what did he personally do to improve the development? That’s the point, some want to change the narrative that BK is & has always been some QB whisperer when he’s clearly not. He’s a great CEO who counts on his staff to bring in & develop the right talent. LSU makes that muuuuuuch easier than some small Catholic school in Nowhere, Indiana.

I agree 100% on Denbrock. I heard a comparison of all the ND OCs under BK & Denbrock was the most successful when looking at analytics. He was a sacrificial lamb after 2016 but that offense was far from the problem. Fans love to hate on Denbrock b/c he wasn’t running as sexy an offense as the teams down South but he was & is damn good.

Absolutely. But what's funny is that his first choice was Tommy who he could control. I have no clue if Kelly is still somewhat calling the shots on offense with Denbrock, though. Lemming told Chris Zorich that Kelly had a fair amount of control of the offense at ND, regardless of who was the OC.

Tommy wasn't his first choice at OC after Denbrock Chip Long was. Kelly definitely still has control of the offense at LSU, it's basically our 2014 offense. Minus the QB turning into a pumpkin and turning the ball over a ridiculous amount in the 2nd half of the season.

Absolutely. Just listen to BK in the aftermath of the Bama win. He told Holly Rowe how they decided what the call would be and how confident he was that a pick would not be called. I think he trusts Denbrock & they work well together.

Makes the decision to not retain him after 2016 pretty confusing in hindsight.

This BK calls plays thing is a dumb debate. He’s an offensive head coach, of course he still has some control. But people like Prister and not fans like Lemming said the idea that Rees wasn’t in control of the offense is wrong. I’d be like arguing well Dykes still controls Garrett Riley. Riley is the play caller. Riley calls the offense. Sonny Dykes absolutely still has some oversight and input. It’s why their titles are Head Coach. We were doing this debate how many weeks ago with not even an offensive coach, with Freeman. Their title is Head Coach, of course they make some decisions!

Assuming Pyne is 5’11” , more or less confirms Kenny is 6’1” - 6’2”
He is 6'4 with the hair...maybe thats what confused the services with the different heights reported. He must have received a haircut...

Only answer if you know please, if you're an armchair QB or HC (that's 95% of you) please don't answer.

What fixes our QB development problems that many of us fans have noticed over the years? I understand that only a small handful of 5 star QB's see the field as true freshman and not many each class pan out at their initial university.

I don't see ND getting the #1 QB in a class any time soon but with MF I can see us getting a top 3 to 5 guy. Once that QB is on campus what is it going to take for him to take meaningful snaps as a true freshman?

Does Minchey have a chance at seeing meaningful snaps if he decides to come to ND?
Yes he's better than Pyne, way better film than Angeli and looks way more accurate than Buchner. He will play a lot in the future

I agree with all but the Buchner comment. It may prove that Buchner is inaccurate, but coming off an injury year his senior year of high school and only 85 college pass attempts (most of when he was in running motion not set in the pocket in 2021), I just think it is a bit early to give up on his accuracy. You may be right, but I won't be surprised if he settles down and starts in 2023.
