All of this. He's done an amazing job in Florida. His covid management was best in class. He handles the media well and doesn't take the bait..
He has my vote in 24.
Exactly. Over 5 million voters in 2016 and 2020 voted for at least 1 down-ballot Republican but refused to vote for Trump. These voters aren't Democrats - they're Republicans and Independents (who historically vote Republican) that absolutely hate Trump. They are never going to vote for him and he alienates them. The overwhelming majority of these 5 million people would vote for DeSantis if he is the nominee because he doesn't have the baggage, the mean tweets, and the conspiracy theories that Trump does.
Furthermore, I would say this to my friends on the left - if you believe that Donald Trump is the biggest threat to democracy and want him nowhere near the White House then you should
prove it in the primary and unenroll and vote for whoever has the best chance of beating him in the GOP primary. Whether that is DeSantis, Rand Paul, Chris Sununu, or whoever.
We actually saw a little bit of this in 2016. In Virginia, for example, quite a few Democrats took Republican ballots to vote for Rubio in the primary because polling showed he had the best chance of beating Trump in the VA primary. These people had no intention of voting for Rubio in November if he became the nominee. They were just trying to stop Trump.
Another thing that I'm worried about is people crowding the field. As it stands right now, DeSantis, should he run, is the only candidate with a chance to beat Trump in a primary. Larry Hogan, the Governor of Maryland, will almost certainly run for President in 2024. When the first polls come out showing him well behind Trump and DeSantis, he should do the right thing and bow out of the race. Back in 2016, we saw Rubio and Kasich stay in the race longer than they should have. Get it so that it's a 1-on-1 between Trump and DeSantis. We can't afford any people spoiling the race.
