Going to be interesting to look back at this LB class in 4-5 years to see who had the best career out of Eichenberg, Kiser, Bertrand, Asa Turner, Liafau, and Osita.

What a big miss tonight has shown this to be.

Especially with Freeman taking over and having a history of using big/long backers.

Bump. OSU folks are really high on Eichenberg, he had 14 tackles with 2 for a loss against Wisconsin

I don't mind taking Kiser and Bertrand over him.

We know they should be playing better and have played better. They just need to get their heads out of their asses and start doing it.

I'm more miffed about not taking a LB at all in 2020. I don't understand the logic behind it.

OSU has made of habit of taking the younger brothers of past & former ND players.

Tommy Eichenberg, Cody Simon & Sonny Styles.

You could add Liufua to that list, too. I guess.

I’m never a “woulda-coulda-shoulda” kind of dude. But our entire starting linebackers this season are all from the same class, but yet, Eichenberg stacks up as the best so far. He’s perhaps not the most athletic, but “production walks and potential talks”.

Ehhh.

I think we're using a bit of recency bias on that. Eichenberg is having a good start to the year, but Bertrand was our leading tackler last year. Marist had the makings of a wrecker and we started to see that against UNC. He played immensely better against UNC than the previous 3 games.

Have to keep in mind, Eichenberg was really mediocre prior to the first 4 games of this season. I think as the season starts to go along, Bertrand and Marist are going to start hitting their stride, similar to how Correll, Lugg and Fisher got off to bad starts but have since played significantly better.

It's not a matter of potential. We KNOW they can play that well. It's simply a matter of getting them to play up to that standard and getting them back after a rusty start.

Yeah well their linebackers coach last year sucked. Who'd hire him?

Kind of feel like Bertrand is who he is at this point and not sure which of him or Eichenberg I'd prefer. I like Kiser better than Bertrand, but same, basically. Liufau has more upside and if he can play like he did Saturday he'll wind up the best of the bunch.

Not to be all chasing the new shiny toy but it's the next generation of LBs that I'm excited about.

Someone else made the comment and I am not sure who it was or what thread it was in but it doesn’t look like the LB’s are adapting to Golden’s style of defense.

Hampton had 28 yards for UNC Saturday. Ott had 33 last week.

I assume our LBs played at least some hand in that.
And while they played a horrible team, Ott went for like 243 this past Sat.

While as a fan, I get frustrated in the moment; but I try to give these kids grace when I remember they’ve had how many different DC & LB coaches the last three years?

While the Marshall performance was inexcusable on many levels, I also place more of it on the DL than LBs. The RB Laborn was also a 5 star out of HS, and talent wasn’t really his issue.
