I agree I don't think Keely is coming to ND, but Keeley...I think they still have a shot.
They’re not even recruiting him man. I thought after decommitting he’d still end up back at ND but things change. The ship has sailed.

I still don’t get WHY we’re not even recruiting him anymore.
He was committed here for a year. He’s not committed anywhere else, but rather making visits. Did I see he’s back at Ohio State this week? That would suggest he’s in fact not just all about that bag.
Yes things change. But why give up here?

What is there to spend time recruiting? Keeley has their number.

“You’ve got our number, call if you change your mind,” is no way to win big recruiting fights against Bama and Ohio State. Which I thought was the primary argument for hiring Freeman.

Okay, what is their to say though? Allegedly Keon wants to go to ND. I don’t personally buy it, but that’s what we’re led to believe. Should Freeman be hitting him up daily advising him to ignore his family? Break his personal relationships to go here? That’s what is being presented as on the line.

I highly doubt that every signed CFB recruit has done so with all of his family’s blessings.

You keep recruiting, end of story. Especially if Keon wants to go to ND.

Unless there’s more to the story, which I have to imagine is the case; otherwise, I think going to 0 is a massive screw up by this recruiting staff.

More excited about Love and Edwards than I have been about any skill position recruit since Michael Floyd. Under any kind of coherent offensive leadership whether that's Tommy or not these two will be stars.

I am with stlnd01 on this one. Keeley was committed for over a year and you don't just give up on a kid like Keeley. If the kid still wants to take visits let him, but in the end if Keon wants to go to ND like Dale said you don't say no, and I have a hard time believing the staff would say no thanks to a kid like Keeley especially the time Freeman spent recruiting him prior to becoming the HC.

I don't think they are telling him no or no thanks. It's likely a let us know if something changes.

Sometimes...actually almost all the time, if you push too hard you end up creating more resistance. There are some battles you just can't win and some forces which are futile to fight against. If a recruit truly believes his family, friends, girlfriend etc., have his best interest at heart and they've already convinced him to decommit, it's time he either makes the decision on his own to come to ND or the staff move on. Negative recruiting doesn't work the same when the negatives are towards one's family members.

The harder you chase the hot girl that doesn't like you, the harder she pushes you away...

Keeley wanted NIL money. We don’t do that so his “uncle” convinced everybody he should go somewhere else

Eh. Not sure I buy that as being THE factor here, TBH.

He’s not looking at most of the big NIL schools. No A&M or Oregon or even Miami close to home. But he is looking hard at Ohio State, which - thus far anyway - doesn’t seem to do upfront NIL either.

If it were as simple as the bag, I’d understand walking away from Keeley. But this feels more like, to some degree, he committed early and then blew up, Bama/OSU came calling, the ND shine wore off, he (or his people) wanted to take some visits and shop around.

None of that feels insurmountable. And of course you don’t neg recruit a kids family. But you can keep talking and maybe he circles back around. I kind of think you have to at least try.

Ryan Day laid out the financial requirements to media and boosters. May not have been meant as upfront, but if boosters are going to back him on his $13 million request, I can imagine they have something for upfront NIL packages for 5-star recruits.

You may be right but if Ohio State is putting real upfront NIL money out there, then we are well and truly fucked. They are the elite program we go head-to-head with most often for top recruits. So let’s get in the game. With Keeley.

As long as Keeley remains uncommitted I still think ND has a chance and this is after visits to Bama, OSU, and Florida. I look at Keeley like Jaylen Sneed; I thought I read a local story that Freeman texted Sneed daily and it wouldn't surprise me if Freeman is treating Keeley's recruitment like Sneed.

OSU seems to be pushing hard for Keeley, but I agree with stlnd01's post #882 ND needs to get in the game with Keeley making it publicly known.

This is a hot girl you keep chasing. Get him here for the Clemson game.

Freeman talks to a lot of kids daily. Keeley is no longer one of them. I don’t see much similarity to Sneed and Keeley. Sneed took I believe one visit post post commitment and it was a South Carolina game with friends.

Sneed’s inner circle was also extremely pro-ND.

While I don't think ND is going after Keeley anymore, I haven't really heard any news on the Vyper front.

ND can't just skip out on Vyper, so they have to get SOMEBODY. I imagine we'll hear something this week on this.

They can't skip out on Vyper but the options are so limited at this point. Unless they can get a high level edge rusher in '23, it might serve them just as well to start grooming a player like Tyson Ford from last year's class to play Vyper. It's not ideal but I mean it may come down to either that or developing a 3star edge rusher, but with Foskey gone after this season there isn't much time for a development project. From what I've read Ford started off as an edge rusher before adding some weight and moving inside

They also moved Josh Burnham in the '22 class to Vyper, when he was originally a LB recruit.

No way is Ford a Vyper. Dude's already 6'4 275 as a true freshman. Odds are he's going to grow into a 3T, rather than Vyper.

They do have Burnham and Gobaira from '22 who both fit that Vyper mold.

But not taking one is still not a good strategy. ND loses Foskey and Justin after this season. And frankly, I'm not sure what to expect from Botelho at this point. You could very easily go into a situation where Burnham and Gobaira is literally all you have at Vyper.

We are teetering on a situation akin to what we have at receiver. You effectively have zero Vypers from the '21 class because Schweitzer move to LB and Kia went on his mission. Then you take zero for '23. You have to adjust to bad numbers in '21 by taking somebody.

Traore is 0. He’s a lot leaner than people realize. For all intents and purposes, he starts at Vyper or edge rusher. Unless he adds a lot of weight fast.
