Yes, they wrote a long and sad attempt to provide cover for the White House. This is almost as bad as the fact check about doubling oil from Russia that acknowledges we got double the oil from Russia but still calls it a false claim. They are focused on a Reddit post that claims this happened after a gdp number and the idea that the White House changed the definition. The fact that you or anyone would defend this is absolutely pathetic.

Long. Sad. Pathetic. A bot says what? Lol

Did you read it?
I did. Did you? They state that the general rule of thumb was recession was defined by two successive quarters of negative GDP growth, and Blanchflower pointed out that he does feel we're in a recession as we'll be posting two negatives for the first two quarters of the year. I could care less what Yellen has to say, she thinks it's not really a recession because of high job creation reopenings. She's already proven to be an assclown with her predictions on inflation and having to retract her previous statements. I also could care less what a podcast on Politico has to say on the topic, they were founded by two WaPo journalists and are just as biased.

So the WH never had an official definition of recession, so Newsweek says it's false that they're changing the definition. Okay? If the definition of a woman is someone born with XX chromosomes and is capable of giving birth, and then the WH changes the definition to include anyone who identifies as a woman...does that make it fact biologically? They're moving the goalposts, and they've been called out for it this week. It's a clear move to downplay the mistakes of the administration.

I read it too. It’s one of a thousand journos providing political cover for Democrats. It hangs it’s hat on a Reddit error.

After November it will come out that indeed there was/is a recession. Just like there was/is a Hunter laptop. 🤔

Two of Hunter’s Mexican business associates, Miguel Aleman Velasco and Miguel Aleman Magnani visited the West Wing on Feb. 26, 2014, according to the Obama White House visitor logs, and Joe was later photographed with Hunter giving Velasco and Magnani a tour of the White House Brady Press Briefing room.

I did indeed. It also discusses how The National Bureau of Economic Research takes a broader view of when an economy is in a recession because the rule of thumb is overly simplistic. This is not a new position by the NBER.

Your own example doesn't even match the fact pattern you present. Lol. Of course politicians are going to frame things in their favor, that's not new. Just like someone framing current labor statistics in a way that better fits ones' narrative. *cough* We may be in a recession now, or soon, or not, but just looking at GDP doesn't tell the whole story. If it did shouldn't there have been a mass celebration earlier this year about last year's growth due to the administration policies?

I don't disagree, but they're wanting to change the rules/guidelines that every other president played by. Joe & friends can try to redefine meanings, but everyone sees what's happening to their wallet. The only people buying it are his staff and I'm not sure they really believe it.

Journalists wouldn’t struggle with this if it were a Republican impacted. But, they have done an amazing job saving us from a recession by redefining it.

The NBER has been very consistent, and if they also see what is happening to everyone's wallet (along with all the other data they analyze) they will declare we have been in a recession. Easy peasy.

This is the transparency and accountability we all seek from the White House.

Rule of thumb has said the last 10 out of 10 times we've had 2 consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth we've had a recession. Seems like a pretty good barometer. If this isn't a recession it would be the first time...or the administration is just in denial so they can spin, spin, spin.

Alrighty then.

Q: Why doesn't the committee accept the two-quarter definition?

A: There are several reasons. First, we do not identify economic activity solely with real GDP, but consider a range of indicators. Second, we consider the depth of the decline in economic activity. The NBER definition includes the phrase, “a significant decline in economic activity." Thus real GDP could decline by relatively small amounts in two consecutive quarters without warranting the determination that a peak had occurred. Third, our main focus is on the monthly chronology, which requires consideration of monthly indicators. Fourth, in examining the behavior of production on a quarterly basis, where real GDP data are available, we give equal weight to real GDI. The difference between GDP and GDI—called the “statistical discrepancy”—was particularly important in the recessions of 2001 and 2007–2009.

Honestly, I think it’s a mistake for the Biden team to take on this fight. They clearly take zero accountability, again. You may recall they were surprised by the Taliban, Border traffic, oil prices, formula crises, inflation, etc. All of these things happen to Joe Biden without warning, despite his 50 years in DC. He won’t take responsibility for his failures, so they want to message around this, which makes them look even worse, IMO. It makes them and the press look like clowns to everyone who isn’t a Dem cheerleader. Now we’re going to tax and spend our way out of a recession.

Don’t let the recession stop you from having a pep rally.

Politicians gonna politician. None of this is on him. I did notice he took responsibility for the gas dropping 40 cents the last few weeks "Fastest drop in a decade!" No mention of it being the fastest rise in...ever, and we're still about 2 bucks off what it was when he took office.

All smoke and mirrors. Fuck it up so bad that it can’t get any worse would have been an appropriate response.

But hey, we’re just stupid Americans…just say it isn’t true, and sheep will herd.
