He doesn't need to tackle.
If he deflects or intercepts every time
(or forces fumbles on RB carries)

Man, this guy is going to be a big difference for the '22 Irish.
He will stabilize the safety position, and probably be able to calm down the other safeties and the cornerbacks.

I'm getting pretty hype for him as well.

I expect big things from this defense. While the front 7 is loaded and gets a lot of the attention, the secondary will be the make or break group. And, I tend to side with make.

your hype is accelerating my %#$@* hype, because I think that this Freeman/Golden relationship is the underdiscussed event of the offseason.
How often, Lucky, have you seen failure to mesh and gear grinding of a new OC, but this thing has been just right. Freeman made the changes last year, and seems both
open to Golden's changes and adjustment
not afraid to give Golden control

That's an infrequent occurrence in college football.

Riddle me this: where is the "weak spot" on the defense?

Supposedly the CB position opposite Cam Hart.
Bracy will handle the slot.
So ND has like 6-7 dudes to choose from for the other CB.

Two ironies here. Sometime in the offseason Mickens commented about a very bad game he experienced. Mike refused to let it define his career and he overcame it. He talked about it in reference to Lewis' bad outing against OSU.

Second irony is that Bracy was awful two (three?) years ago and came back strong.

So we shall see.

Right now Clarence Lewis and betrand are slated to start…. Lewis if starts is possibly the worst power 5 starting cb. Betrand isn’t terrible, but he’s closer to a weakness vs strength.

Lewis didn’t just have a bad game last year, every team that could throw picked on him.

Bracy didn’t all of a sudden get really good, he just wasn’t horrendous last year like he was in 2020

I think that is hyperbolic

I didn’t see one i thought was worse
That’s a lot of recency bias, there. He got torched vs Okie State, but was average in most of our other games. If he can play an “average” CB this year, that’s a win for us. I do worry about him against OSU in six weeks…but the kid is not the worst corner in P5 lol.

Okay, I'm (We are) listening.

Rank all the power 5 starting cornerbacks, so I (We) can see PRECISEly your ranking and placement of Clarence Lewis.

Corner back seems like the hardest position to be good at. It seems like to me anyway.

My dad always hates that CBs will taunt the receivers after every play, even when they did nothing or the ball was thrown poorly, etc. But I told him that he should give them a pass because it's literally the hardest position on the field, especially with all the rules these days to protect the receivers. They deserve a chance to feel themselves every time they don't get burned.

With his size, his long term projection would probably be best for nickel. But we’ve had smaller corners like Mickey, that have done well playing the field, ala Justin Love.

Bracy probably won’t ever come off the field. I believe he had 1000 snaps last year. Might be better to throw Mickey in there for a few series a game to give Bracy a rest.

I said starting corner in p5… who is worse? You can’t lol that he’s not the worst without providing at least one example. He’s really that bad. He gave up over 50 receptions in the season … saw that stat somewhere after bowl game.

I haven’t watched one starter that was worse so everyone else, then Clarence. Name one better.

Blinders on if you think Lewis is even average for power 5.

Maybe you don’t understand what last place means?

A little concerned people think Lewis is good or even average. Wisconsin wrs smoked him, go watch the film of the td he gave up to Wisconsin

Did Bracy really play 1000 snaps? That can’t be right

Bracy will come off the field this year

The odds that the worst starting CB in power 5 is a starter at ND is extremely low. It’s way more likely you are emotional.
I know very unlikely but possible, hence our major weakness. Can I prove he’s the worst, no. But he’s clearly our weakest link by far. Watch Wisconsin highlights. Our D had a field day except for him. He’s possibly as bad as Clifford Jefferson.

He needs to get a lot better which is probably and understatement lets leave it at that.

Why? Because you’re an nd fan and he plays for nd?
Because there are 65 "Power 5" teams, and to insist that he's literally the worst out of all 130 starting CBs is hyperbolic nonsense. He might be the worst of the starting DBs in the preseason top-10, but that's a far cry from what you're arguing.
