While I agree with you completely, I think it is very unrealistic to expect Freeman to be as good in year one as Kelly is in year 30 when it comes to on field coaching. The hope is that Freeman eventually becomes great, and combined with his recruiting prowess makes us a powerhouse. However, I am sure there will be growing pains along the way. Kelly was very good at winning games.

As an expectation, I think you are right. But looking ahead to the season I think a lot of pieces are there for another season like the last few to take place. Good supporting staff of coaches, fantastic team culture, the Balis S&C program, and a squad of players that I’d rate around the same level as our last playoff team, maybe not quite as good, but if not, very close.

I get the general feeling here but the money wouldn't be coming from ND, just like it's not coming from A&M. It's coming from donors. A&M is just lining up the deals. Which is the part that apparently ND is not doing and which I also think is not within the rules. What ND needs is some boosters to pony up some dough and start getting some kids signed, lol.

In fact, I'd love for us to get involved in some way, and I can do my annual NIL contribution to ND's recruiting class.

A mistake by whom? If the kid's not a fit for some reason, the mistake would be to keep recruiting him anyway.

Freeman's fishing with a much wider net than Kelly was, so if we've backed off for fit reasons, I'm inclined to trust them on that call.

It seems the others on the board are 50 50 to me:

- Greathouse pushed his timeline back.
- Hanafin keeps things close to the chest.
- Flores seems to be trending to ND but OSU could take his verbal tomorrow and he may just commit so who knows there.
- Elzy's recruitment seems to be up and down.
