This is pure speculation, but could it be that Carr is fairly solid and Moore is likely. Thus if Moore says "yes" Carr stays 2024, but if Moore goes elsewhere, Carr is actually the backup to Moore and would reclassify to 2023? I am just trying to connect some fuzzy dots, but this would explain why Freeman and Rees seem less in panic mode about Moore's continuing visit plan.
I was gonna type the same thing this has to be it. If ND doesn’t land Moore they get Carr is reclass.

Is it still the thought that Carr & Moore won’t play at the same school?
If so, would you still push for Dante & hope you get Sayin next year, or just take the bird in hand of Carr if he wanted to commit?

Loy reported that after Carr visited ND in April, that he was hearing that was not the case. That being said with that scenario, I'd take Carr and have him reclassify to 23, and then take Sayin.

Carr reclassifying might change the equation but at this point I'd still push hardest/first for Moore. He is closest to Signing Day, and we have led for him for some time. He is the closest thing to a bird in the hand. If Moore ultimately does go elsewhere Carr and Sayin will still be on the table.

All that said, regardless of the current thinking about who will/won't play at the same school we should all be thrilled if ONE of these three guys ever straps on a gold helmet. Any of them would be our best QB recruit in a long time.

Serious here. If I’m CJ Carr do I play up Notre Dame to get the NIL bidding up when I secretely know I’ll pick Michigan, just want more $$?

Michigan looks like they're going to lose their top recruit in 2023 to SEC teams, ND seems to have locked up Keeley from the SEC teams. What have you seen that makes you think Michigan would somehow beat ND on the NIL grounds?

Is this a matter of playing the odds on contingency or a preference of QB (Carr over Moore)? How do they stack up in your view?
Moore is better. Carr is very good, not sure he’s Bryce Young good, which Dante could be.

If the kid knows he’s going to go to Michigan but wants to try and get more money. That’s my point. If it was me, I’d take them for all their worth.

What has Carr done, or what have people on the beat said that would indicate Carr is trying to maximize his NIL value? Again, when has ND lost a recruit to a non-SEC team based on NIL.

Nothing. Just saying it’s what a savvy capitalist would do.

I think you take the bird in the hand no matter what. If Carr can’t reclassify and it causes Moore to go elsewhere, leaving ND scrounging for a 2023 you still do it.

Just be certain that he’s going to be solid even if Rees isn’t here when he enrolls.

I would obviously love to land CJ. I like him a little better than Sayin because of the size (more durability and vision over the middle of the field), but would be thrilled with either since I think Sayin right now has a little better arm and smoother release. Not that it needs to be said, but landing a QB recruit(s) of this caliber just keep raising the ceiling of the program higher.

If Carr committed to ND I would only suggest that he reclassify if Moore started playing ND the wrong way. I haven't gotten that vibe.

For 2024 I'd keep it a Carr vs. Sayin recruiting battle.

My ranking based on confidence for '23/'24 QBs

1.) Carr
2.) Sayin
3.) Moore

I think there could be real smoke with Carr reclassifying to the 2023 class. With NIL in play now, there is almost zero benefit to him playing out his senior year of high school. If he is academically and athletically ready for college, then why not?

Is Carr a kid that was held back a year like a lot of the top recruits?

Reclassifying these kids just puts most of them where they should already be.

I was trying to figure this out too (as well as for our other '23/'24 QB recruits) and the best I could find was something saying he didn't play tackle football until 7th grade because his family didn't think it was necessary until the kids were 12 years old. That would seem to suggest he is in the right class year and towards the young end with a May birthday. I think Moore is in the same boat. No idea about Sayin.

I would lose my mind if the Irish landed both. Good chance that one would eventually transfer but we would have a great chance at actually having an elite QB with what we know will be an elite defense. Get it done please

Rivals board is saying someone committing tonight at 9. Isn’t Carr on campus?
