I know Tom mentioned they were trying but I’m still very surprised. Second to last thread on here lol

"Do we really need 3 RBs?" was my initial thought until I checked his profile and realized he's the #2 back in the country.

Difference Between Kelly and Freeman, guys like this we could never get on campus. The days of us loading up on 3 star guys early are over.
Exactly. It doesn't mean he'll come here, but you at least have a chance with every prospect that you can get on campus for a visit.

Personally not convinced Limar or Irvin jr are championship caliber RBs.
I understand the sentiment, but going into 2022, the championship caliber guys need to be behind center and split out wide. Irvin and Lamar to me look like guys who would be more than capable of being on a championship team.

Zero RB were picked in the first round of the NFL Draft a few weeks ago. Three went off the board in the second round and they were taken from Iowa State, Michigan State and UGA.

20 years ago, I'd have hands down agreed with you, but running back just isn't the premium position it was at that time. I think both of these fellas look pretty good.

All that said, if you can get the top RB in America on campus you have to do it.

I mean, last cycle we had the #1 RB on campus for an OV and received a verbal commitment to Lance Taylor. It just didn't stick.

So, in the world where Freeman and Company are recruiting at a much higher clip overall, it does feel like we could both thoroughly enjoy it while not re-writing history every step of the way.

Limar is Carbon Copy of Kyren Williams. Irvin Jr is Darius Walker. He's a good but were ND is at the moment I can see Irvin Jr. being on the bottom of the depth chart amongst the scholarship RBs.

I can’t believe I actually believed even 10% of the “Notre Dame can’t recruit because…” excuses in the past.

Regardless or whether this class holds together or adds additional players — obviously, players are interested when you have the right type of person selling the program.

Think of the success DW and KW had indvidually and with their respective teams. Two of the better post Holtz Era ND RB.

Give me all the 5 stars at skill positions, especially when we know the defense is going to be our identity. RB is a start. Who was our last 5 star WR. Mike Floyd?

I think in the same county at this running back. There's been a buzz about him for two years. I'm a little surprised that he's going to visit ND. I'm in the same boat as LAX. Shame on me for thinking ND doesn't appeal

Forgot about him. I have a feeling we will see more in the coming years, especially if the Irish land Dante.
What if the Irish land Dante and CJ Carr back to back?!
I'll settle for Dante!
Good to be Irish these days.

FWIW, we were all mislead to some degree on what level of recruiting ND could achieve. The RKG and Different Aisle bs was nothing more than a lazy excuse.

MF and a stellar staff are proving it. Just all the more reason to be thankful for what we have and where ND is going. It’s been fun to watch so far.

Agree on the NFL level but still think an elite running back is a difference maker on the college level. How many first downs did Kyren Williams single handily muscle himself to last year?

It may have had some components of an excuse, but it certainly had some components of truth.

I don't remember any specific incidents or recruits, but BK got "burned" early on by going after and signing some very talented recruits that were either not good cultural or academic fits. He came right out and said that "fit" would have more weight in future recruiting decisions.

Just like anything else, even if it did have elements of truth initially, it may have become the go to excuse when we didn't recruit as well.

Exactly. Not just laziness on behalf of BK and his staff but also stupidity. Zeke Elliott and Curtis Samuel both wanted to go to ND, but the staff didn't want Zeke at RB and Loy said that Diaco wouldn't give Samuel the time of day, even though he had an offer. Tom Lemming had some good stories as well. He is good friends with the Dematha HC, and he once asked him why Chase Young didn't go to ND. Young's HS coach said it was because BK never came to the school, meanwhile Urban was there all the time. Lemming also mentioned that Malachi Nelson's family, in particular his father, grew up really liking ND and would've genuinely been interested in ND, but they got in on him 2 years after Lincoln Riley built up a good relationship with him and his family.

Go back several years in the Kelly era. It wasn't until recently when his hand was forced to compete with other programs that he started recruiting younger prospects. He didn't do it voluntarily. And that was the ONLY way he was going to land consistent elite talent because he had to get on them early to hit the books and qualify. After Eagles-gate 2013, that fat turd just mailed it in like he was drawing an unemployment check.

Players would be excited if that overweight sack of crap wouldn't get out of his office and pitch Notre Dame to Freshmen and Sophomores. Hell, he would barely recruit the Junior class until like 2018.
