Forgive the little side gripe: I'm kind of upset with some students of mine... out in the halls before class watching these videos hooting and hollering about how awesome this is and how badass it would be to be in something like that. These are some of the same students who get super up in arms and bitch and moan about any little perceived injustice on campus/at home, real or completely imagined. I hear about it a lot... but missiles landing in backyards is 'cool bro.'

Disappointed in the amount of Americans who dig Putin's vibe. Not surprised, but still disappointed. Not a lot subtlety either.

Hit the Russian oligarchs hard. Whatever can be done within the law, whether it's freezing assets or getting their children out of private schools abroad. Inconveniencing the lifestyles of the Russian wealthy is good non violent weaponry.
I just read through the entire thread, and haven't read anything that resembles anybody digging putin's vibe.

I have read some posts, however, that demonstrate an understanding of the actual and real circumstances. Stating facts and truth isn't an embrace of putin as a man or leader, nor an endorsement, or support, of his actions.

Can’t really blame the USSR for arming Cuba with the US invasion looming………..

Talk about apples and oranges.

US has been arming Ukraine for a while now, not just with invasion looming.

It is kind of a chicken and egg question. Did US arm Ukraine because Russia has long hostile tone or was Russia's hostile tone because of US arming Ukraine and NATO expansion.

Likewise did the Soviets arm Cuba because of US hostilities to Castro (Cuba was being armed before Bay of Piggs just not with Nukes) or did the Bay or Piggs happen because Cuba was being armed?

It's probably a case of mistrust and both things feeding each other.

This post reeks of toxic masculinity.

Seemed pretty obvious to me it wasn't an indictment of anyone in this thread but rather a portion of the general population.

One thing we need to be concerned with is cyber attacks IMO. No doubt you US and Russia will launch cyber attacks on each other.

These cyber attacks if successful can at least partially blind one side or another to what is really going. It could lead to misinterpretation and trigger escalating responses.

I don't think a US / Russia war is likely but it could happen with just a misunderstanding or two. Cyber attacks create a much higher likelihood of misunderstandings.

There is reading history and there is understanding history and it's implications. We live in a world of instant gratification and knee jerk reactions. I am finding that even with people I know to be well educated there there is very little understanding of implication/ramification. There is very little to know critical thinking anymore. In defense of this, it feels as if you have a well thought out opinion, think critically or don't jump in with the mob after watching a 10 second cell phone video, you become a racist/sexist/toxic person and get canceled.

Example, I had what I thought was a nice conversation with someone who worked in D.C.. We got into a few things, one being abortion/rights and My body my choice. I tend to be more middle, but when in doubt lean conservative. I asked not as my own opinion, but as a question for debate, that how can someone say "my body my choice in regards to a human life", but in the same breath say someone shouldn't have a choice to be vaccinated. Without mentioning ANYTHING about my political leaning prior to this, she blew up, called me an idiot, sexist, racist Trump loving ass hole. I have a tattoo on my arm that says "Let Go and Let God" and she proceeded to rip me for loving Jesus.

To her credit, she is right about one thing... I am an asshole. My point being, there is no debate, no critical thinking, no room for learning anymore. If you only get news/info from people you agree with, you are only ever getting one side of the story. I just don't get it

My scope of the situation exists outside of this thread too.

Don't care about Putin and hope we sanction him and Russia and move on. I was disappointed in the left the last 4 years when Trump would do anything they played politics, now it is turn about.

Personal I think we drop Hunter Biden and the Big man over there to fix it. Glad we have the adults back in power lol. Inflation, check, botched afgan mission check, country splitting apart,check..
(Checks bingo card)

Hunter Biden. Bam.

Your scope only goes as far as your leftist politics and bias. Democratic Underground is your home-base it sounds like.

Our own former president calls Putin a genuis for attacking an ally after he tried to extort them in exchange for protection. Fox News is literally carrying RT's ball sweat right now in spinning Putins actions in a positive light.

I am not GOP and did not vote for Trump. I voted Solidarity Party, but the left's reaction the last 4 years to Trump made me see them for who they are. I voted for CLinton, Obama x2 and 3rd party x2. I am not a right winger, but I hate the hypocrisy of the left right now and Biden is an abject failure.

Wasnt saying you were and I dont care who you voted for but pointing out that there is a portion of the country that is very much in Russia's court on this and its Trumpian in its base. Our own former president's comments are being used by Russia in the news broadcasts to justify their position. It has nothing to d with leftist Democratic Underground . Literally anyone with a bit of common sense knows what is happening.

Pathetic the lot of them.

I see there's a few Putin boot lickers stinking up this joint as well.

I'm above average at understanding fucking nuance. Notice that's my answer.
I don't think you are, I think you have TDS still and can't see anything outside your warped worldview. You cry for innocence in Ukraine, but you celebrate death of the most innocent, you say Putin lovers are scum, all while bowing to worse people.

I've been told our Freedom Convoy fighters are enlisting ASAP. They're going to use their combat skills gained by fighting 16 year old retail workers to the frontlines of European combat.
Did you get permission to write from your leader? Canadians are a lost cause, we still have some hope, as fleeting as it is.
