The WR coach from Bama stayed with Bama and got a raise out of it. Give Taylor a raise.

Trying to cross paths where the new DC would already be comfortable or aware of Al Washington:

Washington is from Columbus and was at:

2002 - 2005: Boston College (Player)
2012 - 2016: Boston College
2017: Cincinnati
2018: Michigan
2019 - 2021: Ohio State

Given that, Tressel and him never coached together but have certainly crossed paths. Golden was coaching in the ACC during his tenure as player and coach for BC. Ash I guess OSU circles somewhat, not at same time though. Can’t imagine he’s familiar to Belk or Mason.

Definitely not a disaster.

But if I'm Taylor, I'm thinking really hard about moving to Louisville.

Satterfield is going to be on the hot-seat after coming off back to back losing seasons and the very questionable decision to not appoint an OC last year.

Not to mention, it's very unlikely that Satterfield is going to relinquish playcalling duties.

If I'm Taylor I'm looking at somewhere with a bit more stability and a bit more autonomy for myself.

Way I see it, him going to UL to be the OC would essentially be for a title and maybe a pay-bump, but I can't imagine ND wouldn't be able to match it, unless UL goes balls to the wall, which for a guy like Taylor, I can't see happening.

I agree. At the same time, LT isn’t guaranteed another OC gig so he may feel like he has to take it.

There has been, an inordinate amount of “my friend heard Belk is on campus today.” or “my alumni buddy says it’s Belk” type posts. This has to be number 3 at least between 247/On3 and yes he has posted before, I believe last time was before Foskey. Here’s to where there’s smoke….

Easier to get an OC position if you’ve been one so he may feel it’s not that big of a risk even if Satterfield doesn’t last.

If it’s Belk, the last two hires were GAs under Dabo and Saban.

i kinda feel good about this one because Houston had so much success with Belk. He was likely someone most deserving to get a big opportunity after finishing top 10 in defense with that little of talent they actually possess.

Belk's positional experience seems to be all in the secondary.

Anyone know how the positional responsibility will work out?

Belk is a great hire in my opinion. He did a lot with very little. Imagine what he could do with the current defensive roster.

Obviously he had a great year at Houston, but was he showing promise before then? 1 year wonders worry me because much more goes into it (veteran team, HC, conference stuff).

Gave up 13 points to Auburn in the bowl game sounds a lot better than giving up 600 effing yards from what we saw with Elston lol.

Read UGA and Texas wanted him as well. Even if he's primarily a secondary guy, that's ND biggest weakness still. The DL coach becomes super important obviously if he's only good at stopping the pass.

He was being pursued for DB job openings by the Alabama, Georgia types last year before getting the solo DC job.

Looks like pre-Belk while he was CB coach at West Virginia, Houston was 104 in FEI.
2019: # 80
2020: # 52
2021: # 27 - first year solo DC

For DB positions, yes. So Holgorsen fired the other Co-DC Joe Cauthen and gave Belk the full DC responsibility. Belk had already been given the Associate Head Coach role a year earlier. Interesting development was that Cauthen went to University of Buffalo at DC, and was just fired today. Meanwhile, Houston's defense improved significantly this year under Belk's total control.

Don’t like the hire. We are building literally the youngest staff in college football. Belk has a thin resume and if he succeeds he’s just going to move on immediately to an HC job somewhere else.

He is young. Can't find his age but based on when he was a player (2007) he's gotta be ~33 years old.

I disagree he'd be an immediate flight risk, but I just don't want to hire a guy off of 1 good year in his position.
