I don’t see that Adams led in YAC. He was near the tops but PFF had him 6th in yard after contact and 18th, really 3rd if you eliminate guys that had barely any carries, in yards after contact per attempt. He had 300 less yards after contact than Jonathan Taylor.

You are probably correct. I was just remembering that was part of his Heisman campaign before he sat out a few games. He probably got passed during that time.

Ohio State just fired their O line coach. Apparently Justin Frye is the expected replacement.

My personal choices would be Ed Warriner or maybe this Sturdwa guy from OSU.

Surprised OSU let Sturdwa go. Offense wasn’t OSU’s problem. They were 1 in the nation in points scored and second in yards per carry/attempt in 2021.

Didn't Greg Sturdwa receive some criticism around missing on some recruits? Then again, Harry Hiestand received some criticism in the past for not being a 'go getter' on the recruiting trail, but look at the results he produced with his coaching knowledge/style.

Can we go back to this being the 'Here's to Harry Heistand' Thread?

SIAP but ISD put together some stats on Heistan's time at ND. Not as exciting as you'd think..

Harry Hiestand:

2013, ND finished 80th in rushing.

2014, 68th in rushing, 70th in sacks allowed with 28.

2015, 28th in rushing, 58th with 26 sacks allowed

2016, 80th in rushing, 85th with 28 sacks allowed

2017, ND finished 7th in rushing with a dominant rushing team, but also had a running QB in Wimbush so they ran all the time, yet they still finished 83rd with 30 sacks allowed

Jeff Quinn:

2018, 51st in rushing, 49th in sacks allowed with 25

2019, 45th in rushing, 12th in sacks allowed with 16

2020, 24th rushing, 61st in sacks allowed with 26.

Being a football ref in DIVII & III... don't forget that a QB sack in College Football goes against RUN stats, i.e., a 10 yard sack deducts from total RUN yards. Where in the NFL, it goes against PASSING stats. So you have to put that into account.

Not banging on ya dude, I know you just posted stats but, something to think about.

There's off field stuff to consider. Personality flaws, behind the curtain situations that have nothing to do with the performance of his unit or even him as a coach.

Hard pass on both.

Agree

Let's see what happens after this weekend when the NFL goes into the playoffs if some DC/Defensive position coach (is on the hotseat) can be 'picked' that could be a good fit for the Irish. I know this argument has been made before but... HH is a perfect example of a coach that may want to just go back to college ranks and have more control and, no multi-millionaire egos and attitudes to deal with.

There are times when a C+ NFL coach could be a B+/A- rated coach in College... any arguments - see Nick Saban.

Someone explain to me why Ed Warinner is always on the short list of ND fans? He once coached at ND. So what. He's at FAU now.

Studrawa was Urban's guy. If Ryan Day is getting Justin Frye, it's a no brainer. Big upgrade at the position in terms of coaching and recruiting.

IMO - I think it is/was because he did do well with QB improvement. Outside of that, I agree with you.

I think he reminds me of Weis.

To be fair Warinner coached the OL up quite well before Heistand came on board. We went from a struggling OL under Weis to a strong running game under Warinner. He got beat in recruiting by Harry once he went to Ohio State (Which is funny to say given the "Harry hates to recruit" mantra), but he's had good OLs wherever he went whether it was OSU or rebuilding scUM. Harry is certainly superior, especially in pass blocking, but I like the work Warinner has done developmentally. If we weren't getting Harry I certainly wouldn't turn Warinner away in the future.

Let the 2022 theoretical begin.

Every OL coach says best 5 but HH takes that even more than most.

One thing with Patterson, unless HH gives him a fresh look at another spot, I do wonder if Correll is now a transfer candidate. They like Coogan. They have Schrauth, Tanona and Craig coming. Feels like one to think is a ripple

I've been saying this for a while. As an EE, he could possibly be graduating this semester depending on how he took classes during Covid and how much he got done in the summers. Most likely done in May at the latest. UK (where most of his fam went) is losing their 6th year OC and their back up was 6-1/295 and has had basically zero clock.

Just makes too much sense.

I'm still hoping HH/Balis fix Baker and somehow talk Fish into LG.

But if not, I'll survive.

I'm almost more excited to talk about the interior line of HH's third Joe Moore winner in 2025. Tanona, Schrauth & Craig. Although one of them may flip with Chan and play OT.

I have liked Baker since you posted his highlights shutting down JTT in high school. I'm cheering for him - but I just don't see Fisher being moved from either tackle spot. I think he's basically going to be NDs version of the massive SEC tackle. Or Mekhi Becton type gargantuan tackle from Louisville.

ND has enough depth on DL and OL where they should be able to plug in the second unit during games and not miss a beat

This is the ideal scenario for a strong ND team, right? If we want to sustain a healthy program, 2-3 deep OL/DL are imperative and drop off between starters and backups should be small.

Why would they move their best lineman to LG? It's still more likely Big Fish moves back to LT in the spring I think.

Worked out for Q. Would be nice having the left side of Nelson/Mcglinchey 2.0. Whichever way we go we’re in good shape.

I don't either but I didn't see Bars or TK being moved to OG or Hainsey part-timing at OT as a freshman. HH practices strange magic.

Giving up the money spot for Fisher would be tough but if anyone can convince his his future is NFL future is OG it's HH. Doesn't hurt that Q & ZMart are on their way to the HOF and from Indy just like Fish.

I think Blake’s agility would be wasted in the guard spot…….not saying he couldn’t be a great guard but his agility and light feet are a big part of what will propel him to being a great tackle.

I think LT is the place for Blake, but his agility would be a plus for pulling on a sweep like the Colts do with Q. Would be a new weapon in Tommy’s arsenal.

I'm not advocating for it. Just thinking: What if HH flips Baker's light switch to the on position and he wants his best 5 on the field? I'm sure we'd all agree if we had to play one of Alt, Fish, Baker at OG, it would be Big Blake.
