Bowl Game - Anyone else sitting out?

Fully expected Hamilton to leave and sit out this bowl game was 100% about Kyren. Disappointed that he would not play as a 3-4th round pick but also leaving Freeman and the team with a chance to really get Freeman out of the gates with his best shot.

Obviously if someone else sits out they will also be leaving. I hope Foskey stays. He can be the next Thibideaux if he stays one more year. No one else has any business leaving early.

I do think we have 4 capable backs and I think Estime will eclipse Kyrens yardage on the ground. If Foskeys leaves it will open sores for others. I won’t be bitter as long as we keep winning! How many go into the portal and how many go to LSU?

Two 4th year guys sat out that year for Alabama when they played Michigan in the Citrus bowl. One was picked in the 2nd round (Trevon Diggs) the other was a 3rd rounder (Terrell Lewis). Since it doesn’t fit your criteria perfectly, go ahead and use it as a way to criticize ND while slobbing over Saban’s knob.

I may be wrong, but I think their final games were playoff games. Not exactly the same thing.

I am torn on the idea of players sitting prior to the Draft to protect themselves from injury. This will likely be helped by the introduction of an expanded playoff. More games that “matter” at the end of the year, with championship implications.

From a personal aspect I don’t fault Kyren at all because I have seen mocks with him landing between the 2nd and 4th round. With the bowl games meaning less, it makes sense to preserve your future payday.

On the other hand, it feels wrong because it is in fact selfish, and hurts the teams chances for success in the bowl game. With that being said, I’m sure if I was staring down the barrel of an NFL contract I would make the selfish decision too, which is probably the right one from a risk/reward perspective.

Nah, I honestly didn't know.

And who is criticizing ND? I pull for the team, not individuals. Kyren can do what he wants but we don't all have to like it.

C’mon, you’re always throwing SEC stuff out there as a way to criticize ND. You literally post a link about Harris coming back for his senior year and it “meaning more” while responding to a post about any other ND players sitting out. You love to do your little trolling and then act surprised when you get called out.

I'd gamble that no one opted out because they don't have any NFL talent on either roster let alone first rounders. Also, aren't they committed to their military branch after they graduate anyway?

Yep. Money ruined the NFL, it ruined college basketball and it's going to ruin college football.

John Feinstein was asked about watching the power 5 and he responded with 'if I wanted to watch pro football , I would watch the NFL.

He is wrong though. The power 5 isn’t professional football. The NFL-factory-like success of OSU, Bama and (formerly?) Clemson doesn’t mean everything is bad and sucks.

Pretending Kyren’s decision is some stain on his character or the integrity of CFB in general is dumb as hell. Anybody that watched him avoiding defender after defender in the backfield for the first six games of the season could see that, as could anyone that watched the star RB of a top-5 team fielding punts late in the year, or picking up blitzers. He always did his job with 100% effort… I don’t fault him for sitting out and getting ready for the next step. He earned it with his effort and his conduct as a representative of the ND brand, IMO.

Actually I worded that wrong. If I remember correctly, he was talking about the SEC and the BIG 12.

I think for some Kyren’s decision is just something to bitch about and/or be right about. People like to hear themselves be right (at least in their minds).

Kyren gave his heart and soul this season. Anyone who watched him play was sure to watch him wince multiple times, get sent to the tent, and then come back in the game and go balls-to-the-wall like nothing happened.

Personally, I’m not going to complain about Kyren, especially when I don’t walk in his shoes. We have plenty of evidence to back up his integrity and loyalty to ND.

It’s funny on the money thing. I’m old enough to remember Notre Dame getting heavily criticized when they signed the NBC contract. People were pretty mad at ND at the time. Paterno of course and I think Vince Dooley also had some harsh remarks. The lesson as always, money has always played a big role in college sports.

I guess I selfishly wanted to see him play one more game for ND and especially with Freeman as the HC and Rees unencumbered by Kelly. I thought he had thoughts of coming back and out it out there as if it were up in the air with Freeman being the HC. Even thought Hamilton was mulling it over as well. I don’t like the tease of the return when they know darn well they are going. It makes it tougher on the fan when the player also has a year or two of eligibility left and then decide to sit out a big game. The silver lining is to get valuable experience to our other backs who I look forward to far exceeding Kyrens rushing numbers this year. Not a knock on KW but rather the Oline struggles and how Buchner will open up the ground game. I agree that KW gave 110% when he was in the game. Sadly we won’t get one more of those but 200 yards by his backups will ease that pain. I get that cash is king but I hate that sitting out for sure fire draftees will become the norm. Not something that happened with the same frequency at ND as it does at other schools. Give. Hamilton’s injury it’s just as well he stay out. It helps that the D has been better since he has been out.
