I’d have say to say our 1987-1993 classes would likely have been ranked the highest ever and likely has our highest rated players. Tough to say with any certainty but the 1988 and 1990 classes were badass.

The 1991 class was terrible. Admissions passed on half the class, leaving Lou scrambling in the month prior to signing day. It was the biggest reason ND went 6-5-1 in ‘94.

I also don’t recall ‘92 being particularly impressive.

you are right about 1992. I was thinking of the 1990 class. I edited my original post.

My point was that Cerrato recruited classes were generally the best groups of players ND has had in the modern era.

Cerrato's five full classes from 1987-1991 were packed full of some of Notre Dame's most illustrious modern talents, including:

Ricky Watters, Tony Brooks, Kent Graham, Chris Zorich, Todd Lyght, Rocket Ismail, Derek Brown, Rodney Culver, Rod Smith, Kevin McDougal, Rick Mirer, Demetrius Dubose, Jerome Bettis, Michael Stonebreaker, Mirko Jurkovic, Reggie Brooks, Ray Zellers, Lake Dawson, Lee Becton, Bryant Young, Aaron Taylor, Jeff Burris, Tom Carter, and Craig Hentrich.

Those five classes would go 72-13-1 during their careers at Notre Dame, and 64-9-1 from 1988 to 1993, winning a national title and 5 major bowl games along the way.

I really don't get it either. If Styles was a corner, then it'd make sense, but O$U's linebackers have been pretty average for a while now, while ND has done pretty well at developing them.

Hate it so much but if we get another full cycle of Freeman recruiting, I trust him to fill out the linebacker room real well. Bowen is a great start and some other great prospects on the board still. If it just not meant to be, knowing early allows them more time to find and land other great options.

This kid isn’t a safety long term - definitely grows into an OLB. With our 2021 LB class + Drayk Bowen, this is probably a group we could afford a big miss. Corner and Safety would be a different story.
