A Foskey injury could also explain why Justin Ademilola was cross training other than any possible situation that was going on with Botelho. If either one of Botelho or Foskey misses even a little bit of time then you need to have someone ready to fill in there. Justin fits the bill.

Justin Case.

He's got a shot at single season sack record. Needs six more with five games to play. Probably won't have many chances against Navy so it'll be tough but possible.

I was hopeful we’d be able to thread the needle of playing well but needs to come back. Not so sure that happens anymore.

Think how many more sacks he would have if he wasn’t lined up as a LB or dropping in coverage 25% of the time.

:sigh:

I don't think he has made a single play of any sort doing that so just use someone else if it needs doing.

I get the point of zone drops but he drops to nowhere covering nobody versus getting after the QB which he’s extremely good at.

It’s a loaded class which helps NDs chances of Foskey returning.

Thibodeaux, Hutchinson, Karlaftis are near locks. The UGA guys Anderson, Nolan Smith and Walker will all have early grades. Then you have the less production, always had the tools UF, OSU, LSU type guys. That South Carolina guy is shooting up. Counter would be every NFL team could always use more DEs. He’d definitely get a early round grade but also definitely some guys he’d slot behind that maybe next year looks more clear

If he gets a mid-early grade he'd be a fool to pass up an extra year of NFL salary at a premium position. Look at the contract Romeo Okwara just got, for example.

Would like to think NDs on the phone for him about getting the big boy NIL deals. That’s the future on guys in Foskey’s position for places like ND.

Is it within reason to think that he would be a 2nd/3rd rounder this year but if given another year of college he would be a Top 5 player? Aside from QB's and OT's DE's are 3rd best position of NFL need.

Since 2014, the top DE was taken no less than 6th with last year being the outlier. Foskey going pro this year with the DE talent coming out, to me, seems like a bad move. Next year would be his year if he progresses from this season. Instead of playing for his second contract, he would make that with his signing bonus with his 1st.

2021 - 18th - Jaelan Phillips
2020 - 2nd - Chase Young
2019 - 3rd - Nick Bosa
2018 - 5th - Bradley Chubb
2017 - 1st - Myles Garrett
2016 - 3rd - Joey Bosa
2015 - 6th - Leonard Williams
2014 - 1st - Jadeveon Clowney

With the deep draft class someone needs to convince him to pull the plan Olave from Ohio St did and come back to be a top 10 pick or go now and be mid 2nd or third....I thought that was a great decision

He's currently tied for 4th in sacks right now. If he's in the Top 3 by the end of the season is there any reason why he couldn't already go 1st round? We've arguably got some easier games coming up...and North Carolina, Navy, and Virginia are all in the bottom 100 for sacks given up (Stanford isn't far from their either). The only Power 5 player ahead of him is Alabama's WIll Anderson Jr. Defensive Ends are a highly coveted position in the last decade. I'd certainly like to have him back for next year, I just wonder if his stock isn't going to continue to rise before the end. His ability to cause strip sacks is impressive.

It goes without saying but stats doesn’t equal draft position.

Length, athleticism and stats definitely help, especially in this case with Isaiah. Not to mention his versatility with his ability to drop. But how does he play the run, how does he get off blocks?

True. I know currently he's not listed in anyone's mock "Top 100" list. I'm just saying he could eat big in the coming weeks if things go his way. If he breaks the sack record does that change his draft stock drastically? He needs 6 more in 5 games and as mentioned most of those teams are at the bottom of the barrel in sacks given up. That won't change the other factors you mentioned, but I wonder if that could generate some buzz.

With NIL/leadership opportunities he could come back. Hope he does because we are otherwise looking thin on experience on the DL (I assume Jayson is gone).

There is a big reason. This DE class is insanely stacked. As in, it is probably the best edge rushing class in recent memory.

Kayvon Thibodeaux
Aidan Hutchinson
George Karlaftis
Kingsley Enagbare
Drake Jackson
Myjai Sanders
Adam Anderson
Nolan Smith
Zach Harrison
Tyreke Smith
Isaiah Thomas
Ali Gaye

Foskey could continue to have a spectacular year, and he may drop to the 3rd or 4th round simply because of how many elite ends are in this class.

In a regular year, I think Foskey is gone, but in this case, I think he stays. The sheer number of ends in the top end of this draft class could very significantly drop his draft projection.

I wonder how often this draft board is accurate with the dudes that end up going pro? I feel like I see a lot of good draft grades given, but then dudes drop way past their grade. Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like this happens more times than not.

I also wonder if the advisory board takes into account the rest of the edge rushers in the class. He could grade out as a first round pick, but so could 6 other guys (guessing) and he could get pushed.

I think that's the issue. There are only 32 picks in the first round. I could easily see 50 total players getting a first round grade. That doesn't mean they are all making it, obviously. Just that their skill level warrants that grade.

A lot of the stories of high grades versus outcome are not complete stories. The simplest, they are lying about the grade, injury, would have had academic issues had they returned etc
