Hard to tell if he's right. The Astros really do have a good lineup but there was a difference between last night and the two games in Houston. 16k for the Sox staff last night and a combined vs a combined 16k in game 1 and 2.

The Astros hitting coach is Alex Cintron. He is known to be one of the best at stealing signs legally.

The White Sox were WAY better at home this year than on the road.

We used to do it in high school. Of course, our bench consisted of one guy who went to ND, another who went to Georgetown, two honors students and an Italian kid who was shall we say "crafty." We were able to steal most of the other team's signs easily.

I hope Chicago wins the AL somehow. I'm beyond burned out of Boston teams.

Through the AL East portion of the bracket. Now onto the Central or West. Rooting for a Sox/Sox matchup as Chicago is only 3 hours away.

I would not even know the NL is playing right now. Zero drama. I don't think either series has even had a lead change yet.

Meanwhile the AL has had all kinds of crazy fun.

I believe the Brewers were up 1-0 and now the Braves lead the series 2-1

Dodgers going with an opener to start tonight’s game. My guess is Roberts wants to force Kepler to burn his lefties early and then go to Urias in 2nd or 3rd inning. We shall see.

This is the first Giant game that I’ve watched all year. Buster still swinging it in the 3 hole.

Christian Yelich and Cody Belinger - I wonder what happened to those guys. Seems like the other day they were MVP combatants. Last few years they’ve both been horrible.

The explanations I have heard for both of them is injuries. Yelich has battled back issues. Bellinger unwisely celebrated often by banging shoulders with his teammate. The shoulder finally popped out of place last postseason and required surgery to repair. It was reported he may have returned too soon. Regardless, he had a collision early this season that resulted in a fractured leg. Once he finally returned, he tweaked his hamstring. Time will tell if either can bounce back.

3/4 teams with home field are all golfing and or fishing right now.

That series last night probably should have been a World Series, but that's not how things are structured.

Dodgers vs Astros would be great theater. I think that's where we are headed.

The ending to that game last night was bull shit. They should pull the first base umpire for the rest of the playoffs.

Fitting tribute to Joe West retiring.

And Angel Hernandez was over at third was probably delighted that it was someone else other than him.

That was such a bullshit call. Flores was overmatched and probably would have struck out on the next pitch, but that outcome should have been determined by him and Scherzer, not the dipshit first base umpire.

Philosophical differences per John Mozeliak the GM. Hmmm

Shildt set to talk Monday not sure if that is with media or just a press release. If he doesn’t give much not sure we’ll ever know too well.

I liked Schildt as a baseball guy but didn’t think he was like oh my god we lost Schildt good as a manager. As long as the replacement is solid then weird but whatever we’ll move forward.

The one scenario I don’t want to hear is Schildt challenged them on the roster and spending and they fired him for it. That would be not great to learn

I'm assuming the Cardinals will look for a replacement that has history with the team or is already in house?

I have seen a couple of the leading candidates. One is named Stubby and the other is named Skip. This seems rather perfect.

Yeah Stubby Clapp who is on staff and long time minor league coach. Ollie Marmol who is bench coach and would likely have support of Spanish speaking side of team. Skip Schumacher Padres coach and former player. Those three seem like the obvious considerations.

It was definitely a check swing and Flores should’ve lived to see another pitch. Doesn’t mean outcome would’ve been different b/c I believe Flores is hitless in his career vs Max. Giants fans were rightfully pissed but they were also reminded quickly about a recent regular season matchup w/ Dodgers where Darin Ruff clearly swung at strike 3 w/ the bases loaded yet the 1B umpire said he didn’t go around on appeal. That walked in a run and cost the Dodgers the game which ultimately cost them the division forcing them to play the wildcard. Karma.

I remember watching Clapp play AA ball for the Arkansas Travelers when they were the Cards’ AA affiliate. Can’t forget that name.

The Red Sox are hitting home runs and winning playoff games. They might be onto something.

It felt like all seemed lost for the Dodgers and Astros. Then it all turned on a dime.

Playoff baseball truly makes no sense. Small sample size.

Found this rather interesting:

LCS largest mismatches by regular-season record, 1995-2021

1998 Yankees (114-48) vs. Rangers (88-74) 26 Yankees
2001 Mariners (116-46) vs. Indians (91-71) 25 Mariners
1998 Yankees (114-48) vs. Indians (89-73) 25 Yankees
1995 Indians (100-44) vs. Mariners (78-66) 22 Indians
2001 Mariners (116-64) vs. Yankees (95-65) 21 Yankees
2021 Dodgers (106-56) vs. Braves (88-74) 18 TBD
2005 Cardinals (100-62) vs. Padres (82-80) 18 Cardinals
2018 Red Sox (108-54) vs. Dodgers (91-71) 17 Red Sox
1997 Braves (101-61) vs. Astros (84-78) 17 Braves
(tiebreaker games removed)

This was from the Joe Sheehan Newsletter last week.

Didn't realize how up against it the Braves were, at least going into the series. The Braves bullpen was going to be a question mark and now after three games it's really going to come into play.

The 2001 Mariners were one of the greater disappointments of my baseball fandom. Alas, it was tough beating the post 9/11 Yankees in October. Arizona ended up just edging them out for a World Series.

Funny game. Laz Diaz with one missed strike call has individually changed the whole dynamic of this series. Should have been 2s last night going into the bottom of the 9th. But Laz misses strike 3 (again) doesn’t ring up, Eovaldi exits, and now we sit chasing a game.

I’ll add, can Bobby D play right field? Because Renfroe is a rally killer right now

Diaz is a terrible umpire.
