Taking a highly complex NFL scheme that confused college athletes to the high school level. What could go wrong?

BVG probably knew his system was so complex that it would take all of Bo's time and commitment just to learn the basics of it.

In hindsight, it was not a good hire. I remember when he was hired and thinking BK was buying really low. He'd been job hopping and not doing very well at the time. It ended up being the end of the Grand Valley State Rolodex parade and for that I think we can all be thankful.

I'm wondering if he has enough money to live off of for his remaining years just coaching HS?

Didn't we know that Bauer wanted to play baseball in college and BVG was against it? I could've sworn that was the hold up in waiting for his commitment

Unless he was living like a rapper, he should be set.

It was an overreaction to Diaco's scheme failings. ND wanted an aggressive, attacking defense and the guy who was working as an assistant under Rex Ryan seemed like he had the background to bring that to the college level. Except the NFL defensive schemes aren't formulated to stop hurry up spread offenses. It completely failed any time an opponent went no-huddle.

I think it was lazy above all else. He was Kelly's guy and had won a Broyles Award ten years prior. That's what I got out of the hire. They had an opportunity to find someone on the up and instead went with a guy whose best years were behind him. They could have made the Elko Home Run type hire then but didn't. That 2016 season was the wake up call.

The hiring process since then has actually shown reach, and that's a very good thing. We don't need alumni and guys from Ghost of Brian Kelly Past to be the pool of candidates we're restricted to. The defensive hires since then have been a breath of fresh air.

Exactly. He lazily told the kid that he’d never seen a middle LB play college baseball and left it at that. As others have said, he should be set for life. He could probably join a HS staff if he only needed X amount of years to qualify for retirement benefits but it seems he spent most his career in college.

Man this thread is pure gold if you start at the beginning. Signing lifetime contracts, BVG for head coach . First two pages were awesome. Not calling people out but it is amazing how quickly people can be caught up in a moment.

That Michigan game in 2014 was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. BVG should have rode off into the sunset after that one. Lol.

Am I the only one who gets anxiety thinking about him as a coach on the staff?? Seriously we were a Clark Lea or Elko away from being in the playoff in 2015........ And getting curb stomped by bama but that's neither here nor there.

We've got a group text for the IEers that tailgated together at Louisville in 2019. For the last few days we couldn't get into the BVG thread because it was locked for whatever reason for some of us. I asked what happened, and arndtjc said, "ND hired BVG as a defensive analyst."

Scary few moments after reading that.
