YOu guys obviously have never been to a night game at PSU. Possibly the hardest place to play.
ND played there this season. Poorly I might add though.

OSU is showing why they ate #1. A effective offense plus a defense that adjusted well after the opening series and shut down PSU. Beware of the "Sweater vest"! This team is really starting to click on all cylinders.
All I have to say is that Todd Boeckman is undoubtedly a better quarterback than Troy Smith.

Where's Wham? I bet he can come up with a Boeckman is white theory.
Seriously though, preseason hype by the ESPN, Sportingnews, Fox Sports and others ruins teams and players. I personall think the BCS has 1 thing going for it: it doesn't start ranking teams until the 8th week of the season. Last year we were overrated after the Michigan game. This year, Michigan was all but forgotten after their first games. USC was so high on a pedestal that the NC game was going to be a "gimme".
In an effort to one up eachother, all the commentators make bold predictions about whose on the Heismand watch, only to watch that player flounder under the pressure. In the words of Donna Chang (Seinfeld), its ridicarous.
Yeah, except that the BCS uses polls that start their rankings earlier than that, and the Harris poll clearly isn't free from such influences. The whole thing really is such a joke. I swear the old system was better.
johnnd05, let me remind you that Troy Smith's numbers against Penn State were accumulated on a day when it was raining heavily in the horseshoe until the first quarter, and drizzling until the half. TS's two INT's were on a deep ball, and on a tipped ball that could've gone anywhere. In addition, TS got a heisman moment during that game when he reversed field to get the ball over 40 yards into the end zone. There is virtually no chance Boeckman would've been able to make that throw.
In addition to this, TS was extremely good at protecting the ball. In fact, 2 of his 6 interceptions last year were from tipped balls (with another one against scUM). At least two from deep balls. Don't remember where the other two came from.
You can't just compare (projected) numbers and say that Boeckman is better. There is an old saying about stats: it reveals the interesting but hides the significant. The two slights that most ND fans (and most other detractors) use against TS is that he accepted $500 from boosters (which he subsequently returned and was punished for) and that he showed up fat and lazy (from the awards ceremonies) during the NC game. That, in combination with the fact that Quinn finished 3rd in the heisman ballot which TS won may be clouding your judgment.
Troy Smith is far and away THE BEST quarterback to ever take the field for the buckeyes. Anyone who says otherwise, and supplants TS for a first-year starting QB is just not living in reality.

Put down the Troy's Myth Kool-Aid. ESPN gave him that Heisman. If he is as great as you claim, then it wouldn't be the case that I produced more yards for OSU sitting on my couch than Troy's Myth did in the MNC game last year. And before you start making excuses for that game - there's bad and there's 2007 Notre Dame bad, and his performance was worse than 2007 Notre Dame bad.
I stand humbled before your so articulately worded arguments that completely tear apart my misguided 'fanboy' post. Thank you for correcting my egregious error. That is just laughable, fanboy. One could make arguments for Germaine, Hoying, and others....they actually played when the Big 10 was respectable. Either way, the point is that by no stretch of the imagination (save that of a fanboy) could one claim that Troy's Myth was "far and away THE BEST quarterback to ever take the field for the buckeyes."
And to think that you, as you're tossing Troy's Myth's salad, insinuated in your post that johnnd05's (or any ND fan's) observations are based in some sort of man-love for Quinn is absolutely hilarious.
None taken. But I'm still going to disagree there. I mentioned this in my original post, but just looking at statistics is not going to give you accurate results. He might be better than TS statistically, but he still would not be as good a quarterback as TS. Last year, the offense was Troy Smith. He single-handedly won the Texas and scUM game for us. In addition, he was essential, and played well within himself in the PSU win. He played a lot better than the numbers indicate. Take him away and that's three regular-season losses for us last year. You just don't supplant someone like that with a first-year starting QB. In time, Boeckman might become a better QB than TS, but I doubt that's going to happen. No offense ant cuz i respect your opinion but, Boekman is better than TS. Boekman's stats if projected correctly are overall going to be better than TS.
First off, I don't understand what is wrong with the Smith-Robo TD pass in the PSU game. How many quarterbacks could've done it better? Vince Young definitely, but noone else. Not Vick, or Leinart or Palmer or even Quinn for that matter. It's not just about Boeckman's stats. Like I said, some of the throws he made yesterday - e.g. the one down the right sideline in the fourth quarter that was (erroneously) overruled - were throws that Smith couldn't make in his dreams. The kid is turning into a very good quarterback.
And PLEASE don't bring up the 40-yard throw that Smith made. He ran away from pressure and winged it to a wide-open receiver. Woohoo. Heisman moment, my arse.
The fact - if it is one - that Smith was playing in a more run-heavy offense doesn't excuse having completed 55% of his passes against PSU. Brady Quinn blew that team out of the building, and a decent OSU quarterback playing with the wide receivers that Smith had would have done the same. Sorry, but I'm really not kidding about Boeckman probably being better than him - and like I said, it really has very little do to with the (projected) numbers, though I'll check back in with you at the end of the year on those.

Wow, this statement couldn't be more wrong. How about Rex Kern? Hell, Schlister was probably a better college QB than Troy Smith. Troy Smith might be the best athlete to play QB at Ohio State, but he is far from being "far and away THE BEST quarterback...."
Anyone before Schlichter (including Kern and Green) were more game managers than actual quarterbacks that threw the ball well. Schlichter..., well, Troy Smith accomplished in 3 years (2.5 years actually), what Schlichter struggled to accomplish in 4 years. Schlichter was responsible for transforming OSU's offense to integrate passes. Chris Carter did more in that regard than Schlichter. Troy Smith was a true quarterback, one that transformed himself from a "ballin' athelete" to a game winning quarterback. Still the best ever at OSU.Wow, this statement couldn't be more wrong. As opposed to Troy who surpassed those numbers for two consequent years in his career. Yeah, now I see your point...Please.......Kern threw for 2400+ yards and 19 TDs in three years. Not very impressive by modern day standards, but he accomplished this in an era when "3 yards and a cloud of dust" was the mantra in the Big Ten. And under a coach who once said, "Only three things can happen when you throw the ball. And two of them are bad." It was because Kern was such a great passer that Woody allowed him to throw at all. Go learn some history further back than Mike Tomczak, then come back and talk to us.
