I might be a bit tipsy (o.k., drunk off my pooper) as I type this but...

Summbitch.

Please tell me that you and john were not 17 year old high school students that were accepted by the University of Notre Dame du Lac who graduated 4 years later with a significant head start on life. Please admit to the world your true status in life. You can't possibly be a true Domer (again, those that were accepted by the university after high school and graduated 4 years later) with the flawed logic that you and johno5 display.

Please study the difference between objective and subjective on your own.

I'll give you a hint. 1 plus 1 equals 2. That is objective.

A biased website that describes a coach by attaching his coaching ability to a few accomplishments of the athletes and coaches he happened to be standing next to is actually subjective if it hints that he was the reason for the success.

So it would stand to reason that your attaching his coaching ability to failures of the players he happens to be standing next to is also subjective, if you hint that he is the reason for those failures?

Time to get realistic! No coach is going to be fired this year or next. On the other hand, should we not win 8 games next year, I would look for a major overhaul in the coaching staff.

Starting with the Head Coach. There will be no warm and fuzzies with two straight losing seasons. I won't be able to defend him then...

I OBJECT to being the SUBJECT of a semantic discussion about the obvious need to send Polian to the administrative/recruiting side of the game.

I am not HINTING that he is the reason for those failures. I have honked horns, run naked through a convent, punched puppies and kitties, and called Jesus a fag on this thread while attempting to, well, make a subtle suggestion that maybe Polian might be responsible for those failures.

Don't be so enamored of sounding intelligent that you forget the fact that college scholarshipped athletes can't play basic football - no matter what the age.

Would a clarinet player all of a sudden forget the notes or forget how to hold the instrument at the first performance in college, after a lifetime of playing the instrument?

Something is wrong in paradise.

I'm not enamored of anything this year, believe me. All I'm saying is...........you, by your own admission, are trying to sway opinion. If you want to sway my opinion, you have to use logic that can't be turned back around on you, and invalidate your own arguments. Your argument against giving Polian credit for the Special Teams successes of the past few years, if I understand it correctly, is that the players just went out and made plays. Polian just happened to be the coach of the unit that had a bunch of guys that just made plays. Well, by that same logic, then he is not responsible for this year's guys just NOT making plays. I'm to the point where just about every coach is on my list. I'm not blind to anything. But that doesn't mean that I am going to just blindly join in any witch hunt.

Nice post. Also relevant to your bolded point is the fact that, as I already mentioned, Polian IS NOT THE SPECIAL TEAMS COACH THIS YEAR.

Please tell me you are not a true domer.

Sorry, not only a domer, but going to be a triple domer. I'm in grad school and will get my master's and PhD from our lady in Mechanical Engineering. The rest of your drunken post, I'm just going to pretend never happened, because I wouldn't want to think so badly of a Notre Dame fan.

You objected to the post on Polian as being worthless because ND wrote it, when all it contained were stats from the special teams unit he coached, it wasn't even from other teams he coached, at least in the part quoted. If he takes the blame when players don't do well, he has to take the credit when they do do well. Sorry if that was too logical for you. And please try to reply sober this time.

It wasn't logical at all. I applaud your claim to be a triple major in Mechanical engineering, but most engineers get a job right away and then follow the logical career path. They don't actually plan on not getting a job and thus relying on more schooling at their current undergrad location. Life happens and you adjust.

Where did "If he takes the blame when players don't do well, he has to take the credit when they do do well." come from? I don't think his acceptance of responsiblity has ever been discussed. I think you might be suffering from a READING COMPREHENSION problem.

You wrote "And please try to reply sober this time."

Actually, "sober" in this case is an adverb, and should take its adverbial form, which is "soberly." So the corrected sentence should read "And please try to reply soberly this time."

I kinda wonder why a self-proclaimed triple major from ND is spending time answering my posts and not out either studying or humping women.

Of course, if your aren't lying, then I wish you the best.

johnnd05, sadly, my 9 day Columbus day weekend is over, and I may not be posting much anymore but I'll keep trying to get that next red dot under my name. Might as well complete the process.

I don't like hanging by a thread.

Get the pun?

All personal attacks on intelligence and such aside, I don't think this is a reading comprehension problem. Let me break this down for you in quotes related to the conversation at hand.

Why is the special teams coach still on this staff?

from you first post in this thread

I am talking about Polian. He has stunk it up for the team as bad if not worse than Minter did. Why was Minter shown the door and not Polian?

Is it because Polian's father is president of the Colts? Why was the coach who is associated with losing teams hired in the first place?

Sheesh. I thought you did your homework johno5.

Also posted by you.

In 2006, Polian's special teams were highlighted by the play of punter Geoff Price. Price ranked fifth in the nation averaging 45.4 yards per punt to set the Notre Dame single-season record for best punting average. He also reached the minimum punts required to become the school's career leader punting average at 45.4. The punt coverage unit, under Polian's guidance, ranked 11th in the country at 37.8 yards per punt and helped Price land 12 punts inside the 20-yard line. The Irish returned one punt for a touchdown last year and David Grimes averaged 24.5 yards on 21 kickoff returns to rank 28th in the nation. Derek Landri blocked four kicks including tying an NCAA record when he blocked two PATs vs. North Carolina.

You gonna can the guy for having a bad year? Hell, if you did that, ALL of the current coaches would be out of work.

quoted from kmoose from the ND website about what Polian's ST units had accomplished in 2006.

If he takes the blame when players don't do well, he has to take the credit when they do do well. Sorry if that was too logical for you. And please try to reply sober this time.

quote from me saying that if you want to blame Polian for this year's play, you have to give him credit for last year's play.

That is all, I don't really come to this site for people to imply that I'm not intelligent or to imply that I'm only working my ass off getting my PhD because I was too scared to get a real job. Neither is the case, and frankly, I had expected better from ND grads and fans. I'm sorry if I offended you some way, which made you lash out, I was just trying to talk about ND football.

You did not offend me. I think I need to use more smileys. This is a forum for discussion though. I don't see why you are down on ND grads. They have nothing to do with me. I'm just a fan. I've heard the term "subway fan" - whatever that means.

Regarding your above post, can't say I really get your point, but that's ok.

Peace out.

I said grads and fans which you conveniently edited out by putting in ellipses in my quote. As for not getting the point, I guess there was a reading comprehension issue, but not on my side.

I'm glad you were not offended, I never try to deride anyone in any posts, and I think I have even gone the extra mile in ignoring your repeated attempts to bait me. I hope we can have fruitful discussions in the future, but I think it would require a bit more effort on your side to do the same.

Go Irish.
