well, I'll be there, but I won't accept such demands from you guys;) I'm gonna be writing papers soon enough, I don't need a 5 paged, single spaced summary now.

I'll put this bourbon down for a moment or three to give my synopsis of tonights practice.

1. Golden lives up to his name. He ran one kickoff back and gained a considerable amount of return yards on every attempt. His speed and quickness will make a tremendous impact on special teams.

2. Clausen's group was not surprisingly limited to predominantly running plays out of Two Tites (1 WR 2 TE 1 FB 1 HB) or New York (3 TE 1 WR 1 HB). While there were no breakaways for huge gains Thomas, Aldridge, and co. did a fine job picking up manageable chunks of yards behind what seems to be a cohesive and relatively effective offensive line. On play action plays, Clausen looked good moving around in the pocket and hitting the tight ends in his limited passing action. It did look to me that he could add more zip than what he showed tonight but he never threw a bad pass and made good decisions.

3. Sharpley was on and off. His sets were ran primarily out of the Half (3 WR 1 TE 1 HB). Sharpley seems out of the quarterbacks the safe route, he can be caught throwing passes too high or behind his receivers but he does enough to move the offense down the field at a good pace.

4. Demetrius also moved the field down field at an equal pace to that of Sharpley's reps. Jones fielded out of what typically looked like a spread offense (3 WR 1 TE 1 HB). He hit his targets when they were immediately open but was quick to utilize his legs if the receivers were covered. Jones did throw what became and interception at no fault of his own. He hit his receiver's hands who decided to let the ball bounce off and into the hands of Darrin Walls who sped down the sideline before Jones knocked him out of bounds. Judging alone from tonight's practice alone, it seems that Jones is well suited to start the season while Clausen heals up and picks up the speed of the game and while the offense works itself out.

5. Walls showed up tonight with his opportunistic interception and healthy return and with his kick off returns as he sped down the field on several occasions picking up a respectable amount of yards.

6. My guess is that our kickoffs landed on average around the 9 or 10 yard line. We had one fielded in the endzone and a couple at 15+.

7. Our placekicking needs work.

8. Ian Williams did not get time and was still in what looked like a small cast around his forearm.

9. Zbikowski is a beast. That's the clearest picture I got from tonight. He ran every punt he fielded back looking agile, fast, and strong. Punt coverage teams are going to have a difficult time slowing him down at best.

10. Oh and not only is he a beast. According to the lovely Saint Mary's girls sitting behind me... he is sooooooo hot.

Thanks John. :)

It's good to be back in the Bend and we've just a few days of work hard before we get to play hard and let the Yellow Jackets in on what it's going to be like for the next few years.

how did AA do?

I am unsure why but Allen did not receive any memorable playing time. The large majority of the runs were Travis, Aldridge, Jabbie, Asaph. Armando is healthy and looked the quickest of all the backs during the agility and catching drills though.

I would rep him, but I require pics of the "lovely" St. Mary's girls first. It wouldnt let me rep, I tried!

Heh, I actually moved down a few rows so I didn't have annoying jammed in my ear.

"Did you hear Brady cut his hair ?"
"Yea, those luscious brown locks are gone."
"He's still majorly fiiine."

ok, so i was a little late getting back. i don't have a whole lot to add. the freshmen are horrible singers (they sang the alma mater into a mike), travis thomas is a decent singer (he led the team and students in singing the fight song).

i agree the field goal team still needs work.

there were a few little twists in terms of depth, but i don't think they necessarily meant anything beyond just mixing things up or using certain people for certain situations. for example, darrin walls was in instead of ambrose wooden with the first group on D, but wooden played later. at the same time, crum wasn't in for a while and brockington and smith were in the middle, but i don't think that meant anything at all.

richard jackson had some sort of cast on his left hand/wrist which may be accounting for some of his drops.

after jones' int, he hustled back to shove walls out of bounds, flying into an usher in the process and he got a nice "nice hustle, demetrius" from charlie.

there was a very small scuffle between nwanko and one of the o-linemen which was quickly broken up, and nwanko got a little talking too. ian williams initially backed nwanko up while charlie was talking to him, but justin brown came over and got him out of there.

allen and tate were the first guys to return kicks, followed by walls and i can't remember the other guy.... i think it was west. serioulsy, i apologize, i'm not remembering half the stuff i meant to.

and on a final note, i was lucky enough to not be sitting next to any smc girls;)

zibby did look good in the practice. his 2 punt returns were definitely the highlight of the night. i wasn't too impressed with sharpley and jones but they definitely threw more passes then clausen. i don't know if they mentioned it before but clausen was the first QB to "start" the scrimage drills followed by sharpley then jones. i have to agree with tgolden that the freshmen really cant sing. it was impressive that their knew the words tho, but i heard that CW makes them memorize both the fight song and the alma mater so they don't look like jackasses on NBC at the end of the game. on a final note, during the practice i was sitting with the girlfriends of wooden and tlaws b/c im friends with them, and they said they are both very hungry and excited about the upcoming year, especially since it's their time to shine before the nfl draft. but what i found interesting is that tlaws said he is really unhappy with switching to the 3-4 defense because he feels his body type and talent level is better in a 4-3. hope this helps!

Laws better get happy and buy into the 3-4 system real quick, or else he might have lots of time to 'prefer' the 4-3 while he is riding the bench !

I don't think he'll be ridding the bench anytime soon at ND. Just because you don't like something that doesn't mean that you won't work hard at it, especially when it comes to something like football. Besides it'll probably grow on him when the sacks start to mount.
