'08 IL OLB Darius Fleming (Signed LOI to ND)

This young man is very good but Brett Nagel appears to have better stats. Is there any reason why ND haven't given Nagel an offer?

Regards,

Stats are not always a great indicator about player ability and performance. I don't know anything about the level of competition that either player faces, but that could be just one reason fro stat discrepancies. Somebody who is familiar with Chicago HS football would have to comment on that, though, to be sure.

Fleming was at ND's practice on Saturday and was apparently very impressed with how Corwin handled the defense.

I also heard he spent the night at Braxton Cave's house, I wonder if there is any truth to that.

the two are apparently pretty close, so that is definitely possible. I can't say it hurts our chances with him at all...

No surprise here, but Darius who plays DE in High School confimed that he is being recruited to play OLB at ND, so that makes at least 8 LB offers. If Darius is being recruited as an OLB, then it's likely that Kapron Lewis-Moore and possibly Chancey Aghayere are also being recruited as OLB's, which if true would bring the total to 10 LB offers, and would also further explain why Nagel, Zordich, et al, are not currently offers.

Fleming is scheduled to return to ND for the Blue & Gold game.

Guess who is on his way to making his third visit to the ND campus in the month of March, including two weekends in a row.

See, for all of those people that have been complaing about the lack of defensive commitments in this next class it's time to shut up. If I had to guess I would say that both Flemming and McDonald will be Irish before the end spring ball.

I really feel like we are sitting very pretty with fleming, filer, and mcdonald. And that is just wonderful.

Hopefully we'll get some commits from the like of them soon. And then all the posters can start worrying about our D-Line again. With which I would be happy if we got two or three more strong D-Line candidates to go along with Cwynar

I reported yesterday that Darius would be coming to ND for practice today which he did. There was a rumor at the time that Darius was being accompanied on the trip by Robert Hughes, and Steve Filer. It has now been reported on another message board that they did all indeed show up at the practice together. I cannot say for certain that this is true because it is second hand info, but the poster in question usually provides very reliable info. No news yet on whether Fleming is definitely making a commit this weekend.

Recent commit Kyle Rudolph was also at practice today.

Hughes is going to be a STUD. I like that he is showing up to practice when he does not have to, not to mention showing up with other public league players. I think that is pretty cool. I think this is Darius second trip in a week so I hope him and Filer both commit this weekend.

B&G is reporting a new verbal today, and the pic looks like Darius with cornrows, but I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm this info and make sure it's not an April fools joke?

I don't think so, but it does not look like Fleming, it actually looks like Erik LeGrand who did not have an offer as of yesterday, but it is hard to tell, no news from anyhwere else.

According to other Message Boards, it is an April Fool's Joke, a bad one if that is the case.

Here is the joke from B&G, anybody think this is funny? I guess it is in a way, or is it B&G just trying to get subscriptions.

Quote from the 4/1 SBT Article on Spring Practice:

"For what it's worth, Darius Fleming -- a standout 6-3, 230-pound defensive end/outside linebacker from Chicago St. Rita High -- was at practice Saturday, donning a Notre Dame jacket and an ND logo on his jeans. The previous weekend he visited Notre Dame unofficially, staying at Irish recruit and Penn High center Braxston Cave's house."

However, still no word on any possible committment

Although ND is all Darius Fleming is talking about, his possible commitment may not happen until the beginning of May at the earliest. One interesting note about Darius is that the day he is taking his ACT is the same day that the Zookster has scheduled an Ilini practice at Darius’s High School. Nice little snub there.

Just watched his free film on rivals and came away very impressed. Granted they are highlights and not full games, but he is very athletic, good at shedding blocks, fast and appears to have pretty good football strength. Now move him from DE to OLB and I think he'll be even better. He is a must get and i like his film alot.

This was posted last week, Darius has already confirmed that he is being recruited to play OLB in the 3-4.

Recieved an offer from USC today. This is good news and bad news. The good news being we already thought he was good, but an offer from USC just raises his stock to great, the bad news is it's USC and i hope he would want to stay in the mideast region...

http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=109&p=8&c=1&nid=2936041

He didn't really seem that interested in USC according to his quotes. I still think he is ND's to lose.
