Since we've got too much separation and some of the players don't belong on the list, I'm going to do a nomination round for the Top Irish runningbacks before I make the voting thread.

I will take the Top 10 from the nominations so nominate up to THREE players.

CURRENT NOMINATION LIST
Allen Pinkett - IIIIIIIIII
Autry Denson - IIIIIIIIIII
Reggie Brooks - III
Julius Jones - IIII
Ricky Watters - II
Jerome Bettis - IIIIIIIIII
Vagus Ferguson - III
George Gipp - I
Emil Sitko - I
Creighton Miller - I
Darius Walker - I
Marc Edwards - I

Pinkett-Pinkett-Pinkett-Punt
J-Rome Bettis
Autry Denson

Watters was a flanker I believe (a la Rocket)
Reggie had a tremendous year, but was position switched IIRC
JJones just misses the medal stand if you ask me, thanks to Ty-ger. FORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Denson, Pinkett, Bettis

Brooks had a great season, but bounced around from positions so he just narrowly misses my list. I don't know a bunch about pre-1970's but I do know that Gipp deserves mention with the YPR that he had, I don't think Jones was all that good of a back...he was solid but never really lived up to his hype (note I dislike Ty more than anyone but he didnt ruin JJ's career, the addition of weight and leaving school did). Watters was a Flanker in college for the most part so I can't really count him as a RB. Randy Kinder was left of the list, which in a way surprised me. But I think those 3 picks are solid.

tough question!

Bettis
Vagas
Marc Edwards (not because he was a great rusher, but as a blocking back...awesome)

Ryan Grant, Tony Fisher, and Power Neal.

Just kiddin In my lifetime, Denson, Watters, Bettis

I think Julious Jones could have been a lot better if it weren't for Ty.

Ferguson, Bettis, Jones

Honorable mention to Denson...

I put Jones above Denson based on his final season alone. He was simply better in all aspects of carrying the rock. (However, Denson was more consistent over his career.)

doesn't anybody remember anthony johnson, the fullback '88-'89 when we won the national championship? maybe the championship that year is clouding my judgement, but that guy could move the football.

his name isn't all over the record books, but with a guy like tony rice at QB, that's not surprising. he is tied for #4 on the list for career rushing touchdowns at ND, and #5 for career touchdowns overall.
