Avery Davis highlights from II for anyone who has access. His footwork looks incredible.

Notre Dame WR commit Jordan Pouncey at the Irish Invasion

I wonder what the staff plans to do about that release? He obviously has had some good training, evidenced by his footwork, but why hasn't anyone fixed his throwing mechanics? I wonder if the staff thinks that they might be able to bulk him up enough to where he can make all of the throws by throwing like a catcher?

I suppose they could run a dink and dunk offense too. I just have a hard time believing someone with that throwing motion can stretch the field out offensively. There's a ton to love about his game, I'm just genuinely intrigued about how they plan on utilizing him.

His release is so weird. It's super quick, which is good. But he doesn't really bring the ball up High at all, which is bad, and especially bad because he's short.

I agree. As someone said before, he throws like a catcher throws back to the pitcher. I was a catcher and we were actually trained to throw from the ear back to the pitcher. It is an accurate way to throw over a long period of time without wearing your arm out. The difference is that you typically don't throw from the ear down to second unless you have a rocket arm. As you need to put zip on it to beat the base runner. Same with pitching, when velocity matters, you don't throw from your ear.

That's what I meant about the dink and dunk. A smart kid with a quick release, great footwork and an accurate ball can be deadly. But it is limiting when a team stacks the box and forces you to try and spread the field. That and like you said... How in the hell does he throw to the middle of the field when his linemen are all over 6'4"?

Very important qualities for a slot receiver or APB. Now I wonder how he back peddles cuz he's built like an All American CB

Kwity Paye if the Irish offer expect him in this class

Ivins

I watched his film at II and was super impressed with his speed and athleticism and has a great frame. Doesn't play high calibre football where he lives but could be a good player for us given his natural talent. I want K'Jakyrye, or whatever his name is over him though....we'll see how it all shakes out. We need pass rushers at the WDE spot BIG TIME

I would take Kwity over him in a heart beat.

In the Rivals vid where the the staff was running the DL's through agility drills, I thought Paye looked the most athletic. Quickest footwork and the best at turning the corner around the dummy. Super smooth. The only one better than Echols at that drill at least.

Besides that, I haven't looked into him

Totally. He had as good, or better fast feet than Echols and very good use of hands and intangibles. If you watch his Hudl film though, it's similar to what you see in Claypool's. A big, freakish athlete WWF body slamming slow, scared 165lb QB's, embarrassing 195 lb OT's and chasing down slow RB's. Regardless of the competition, he's definitely a talented player and on the II tape, I saw that he actually has wide shoulders and a frame that could be stacked with some work. Kind of reminds me of Mokwuah in a sense. A big strong DL on the north-east coast in a low talent league smashing kids.

His throwing motion reminds me a bit of Philip Rivers. Now Philip has a cannon for an arm. But you can be successful with that motion.

That's what I meant. Maybe he just needs to get stronger. I wonder if the plan is to bulk him up so he can keep his mechanics and is strong like a RB? If he can make all of the throws with zip, then I don't care if he throws from his hip. Hell.. He can throw it from between his legs for as long as I care. Just keep that footwork, pocket awareness and escability.

But I think guys like Rivers are definitely an outlier.

He can't catch. He had multiple drops at Irish Invasion on easy balls.

No video has shown that. The highlight video for the day had several of his catches and I, too, thought he looked really good. If you're not at the event, you can only judge by what is put out there for us to see.

I wouldn't expect a highlight video to include any drops. Just sayin'........
