I have no idea how to read Sparq scores by position. Is this good or bad for him?
It's in line with others. Lugg's was:
40 = 5.51
Shuttle = 4.89
PB = 43.0
Vert = 25.1
Sparq = 85.44
Rankings are always a sensitive subject, and the biggest controversy this cycle appears to surround offensive tackle Trey Smith, who suddenly shot up to into the top six on two sites after an impressive performance at the NIKE Camp in Chicago. He became the No. 1 player in the country on another site even before his performance in Chicago.
So why is he a four-star on Rivals who isn’t in our Rivals250?
I’ll admit we are being cautious here and want to see more of Smith for a few reasons.
His junior film is awesome -- he’s pancaking everything that moves and hits the second level like a running back. However, he plays for a D2 school in Tennessee and the kids he’s pile-driving aren’t close to elite athletes.
And Smith is listed anywhere from 6-foot-6 to 6-foot-4, depending on the site. He doesn’t look as tall or long levered as the former measurement on film.
However, make no doubt this isn’t a situation like Matt Elam (the defensive tackle not the defensive back) or Lamont Gaillard, two big men who also rocketed up the charts of our competition in recent years. Those guys should have never sniffed a fifth star, much less been in the top 10 like they were on some sites.
Smith looks like a million bucks on film and perhaps our concern over his competition level will make us look slow on this one. I know Ole Miss and Tennessee fans think so.
I think his current ranking is likely his floor and his ceiling is very, very high, but we will see how he does this summer and into next season before we make our judgement.
We were correct on Elam and Gaillard, but this kid is a much, much better prospect, so I’m excited to see more as the 2017 rankings evolve.

Sarell or Smith?
The guys on ISD like Wyatt Davis the best.
Would be the icing on the cake of great back to back to back oline classes. Heck he would be the whole cake!

Sounds like most believe Sarell out performed at the Opening.
With Gibbons, Lugg and Hainsey on board all you need is one of Sarell, Smith or Wills and you hit it out of the park. Then one more guy who is at the moment on the sidelines rounds out the class.
It sounds like Sarell is staying out west and I think Smith is going to Ole Miss or Tennessee but as long as HH is at the wheel, anything is possible.
Don't care about performance at the opening.
I'll take performance in the field in 11 on 11 with helmet and fool pads. Thank you very much.
I trust the offer list.
What a coincidence, ND is on my top six places that I'd like him to go. If his spreadsheet had a column for pay, we'd know we lost him to the $EC.
Even if Ole Miss didn't have bagmen like LA has Uber-drivers, going there makes sense for a no brainer, NFL talent like Smith. He's close to home, closer than any P5 with only Memphis being the only closer D1 school. He'll have a relatively thin depth chart to navigate compared to the other heavies on his list which should lead to earlier playing time. He'll play against a schedule NFL scouts will like to see a OT face in the SEC-W and the staff has a recent OL success story (on the field) in Laremy Tunsil.
Yawn. Assuming they don't have to self impose more crap sanctions. Ronnie and Zach found their way in. ND plays some folks worth watching too. Plus, Harry is a good coach.
In Hainsey, Coach Brian Kelly and Hiestand have another piece on the offensive line as he joins fellow Top247 recruit Joshua Lugg and offensive guard Dillan Gibbons who is a nasty young man at the point of attack himself. Notre Dame aims to take five in the 2017 cycle and would love to add five-star Foster Sarell and fellow blue-chipper Jedrick Wills to what’s already onboard.
“My dad is a businessman, so he had a spreadsheet for me to narrow it down,” he said. “We put in boxes with a scale of 1 to 10 with things like a good offensive line coach, a good relationship with the coaches, opportunity to prepare me for the NFL and opportunity to play. We just had our list end evaluations of each school, and whoever was the top six on the list was my top six.”
While Smith won't reveal who came out on top within the spreadsheet, the 6-foot-6, 299-pound lineman says that one school was a clear No. 1 after the grading.
“Another school came close, but there was a clear No. 1,” he said. “It was quite shocking because that was one of my top schools, so it was interesting.”
The quote below is from Wiltfong in the Hainsey piece he wrote tonight. He just spent 4 days with all the ND targets, I find it odd that he left off Smith.
