Can't imagine having two guys on the same team hitting 121 combined HR in one year.
They touch on those topics in the *61 movie. Would certainly recommend it if you haven't watched it. Ruth had fewer teams(presumably less diluted pitching talent) to go against, but never had to play night games(i think they say that?) or go on West Coast trips.
Roger is basically God up here.
Unfortunately Roger took a lot of heat in 61 because Mick was considered the Golden Boy who came up through the Yankee system. Roger came to the Yankees in 1960 via a trade and wasn't considered a real Yankee yet. Yankee fans didn't want Babe's record broken, but if it was going to be broken they wanted Mantle to do it.
Does anyone break Jerry Rice's records? Most receptions, receiving yards, receiving touchdowns, and all purpose yards.
Even with the amount of passing in the NFL today, it would be hard.
It will have to be the perfect storm. Not knocking Rice and what he accomplished, but he did have the experience of playing with a couple of outstanding QB's which had to help.
Marvin Harrison's single season catch record might be the first receiving record to be broken.
Byron Nelsons record of 11 PGA titles in a row will never be broken. I couldn't how great a run someone would have to get on to even get close. I would love to see someone do it but it will never happen.
Don't think that will be touched. I'm not a golf fan by any stretch of the imagination and never watch it, but can appreciate what Nelson did. Bobby Jones is to me the greatest golfer of all time. He was an amateur that only played about 7-8 years and didn't play regularly. He was an attorney by profession, yet won the "true" Grand Slam winning all four in a single season. He played in 31 majors during those years and won 13 and finished in the top ten 27 times. Will someone else ever win the "true" Grand Slam?
