Geez it's early in the morning out here.. I have no idea why I mixed those records up in my mind, I'm blaming it on not being awake fully... I read breaking Bonds' record and jumped to Aaron... good job being "baseball guy' you big dummy...

We have it beat into our heads growing up here. The record belongs to Roger. Even have billboards along interstate to remind those passing through our fine state.

That's right,... he's your boy.

I get it though, the all time record, as far as I'm concerned, belongs to the man my parents thought so much of they named their first born after him.....

So many pitching records seem untouchable from Ryan or from the old deadball days, but Kershaw getting 300 K's last year was awesome. What he's done the last few years is crazy.

Not sure what records are out there for him to break....maybe most MVPs as a pitcher

You might see the most losses this year between my braves and the twins.

It would be cool, but I found myself rooting very hard against Carolina this year. Not to go all spoiled fan, but it's hard not to be jaded from 18-1 as a Pats fan....pretty much have the attitude that if they can't go 19-0, then I don't want anyone else doing it....especially after the Pats started 10-0 and looking like they could make a run at 19-0 before everyone decided to get injured.

I also didn't find Carolina all that likable or entertaining to watch personally. Maybe if someone else more likable were blowing everyone out then I'd be rooting for it to happen.

Classic!

I think a run at 56 games would be epic, but his 41 season was also the season he set the record for fewest SOs in a season at 13.
I can literally never see that being broken.
Great call out on Gretzky, but it's Gretzky you could tell me he scored 5 goals in a game when the ice melted and he froze it just under his blades and the puck and I'd be tempted to believe it.

Huge Yankee fan from way back. I remember 61 very well. Roger set the record on the last day of the season. He and the Mick were going toe to toe all year until the Mick got hurt and had to settle for a puny 56 HR's. I think Mantle would have beat Maris if he had stayed healthy. Keep in mind the Babe hit 60 in only 154 games.

Interesting note on the 60 World Series. The Pirates beat the Yankees in the series 4-3. In each of the Pirate wins, they won by 2,1,3 & 1 runs. The Yankees won their three games by 13, 10 & 12 runs. Not sure you'll see something like that in a while.

Can't imagine having two guys on the same team hitting 121 combined HR in one year.

They touch on those topics in the *61 movie. Would certainly recommend it if you haven't watched it. Ruth had fewer teams(presumably less diluted pitching talent) to go against, but never had to play night games(i think they say that?) or go on West Coast trips.

Roger is basically God up here.

Maris has the record as far as I'm concerned but Ruth has the more impressive feat. 60 HRs in 154 games in an era where he outhomered most TEAMS is just incredible.

Any time one person exceeds the cumulative stats of an entire team you have to just be amazed.

Does anyone break Jerry Rice's records? Most receptions, receiving yards, receiving touchdowns, and all purpose yards.

Even with the amount of passing in the NFL today, it would be hard.

Obviously it's super early but I think Odell Beckham Jr. has a shot at the receptions record. I know I'm being a homer but he has broken or come close to most records for a receiver's first 2 years in the league.

It will depend a lot on whether the Giants bring in a good QB after Eli.

Definitely depends on a QB in the future, as well as his health. Over Rice's 21 seasons he missed a total of 30 games, all coming within 3 seasons. (14 of those in the season he tore his ACL in the 1st game of the season).

Byron Nelsons record of 11 PGA titles in a row will never be broken. I couldn't how great a run someone would have to get on to even get close. I would love to see someone do it but it will never happen.

Great point. To go off that, I doubt now if anyone touches Jack's 18 majors with Tiger not looking like he could. I also don't know if someone can come close to Tiger's cut streak. Even the top 3 in the world have missed cuts within the last year.

You're right about Tiger's streak of consecutive cuts made being safe. No one will touch that. Jacks record for majors looks safe for the moment. Too many great players now for 1 person to dominate.

Or....There are no truly great players. One of the two!

Speaking of records, the Indy 500 will break the all time attendance for a one day sporting event on Sunday. It is even going to be televised locally...first time since 1965. That place is going to be a drunken madhouse.

Gretzky sets the standard in this convo. This year Patrick Kane led the NHL in points with 106. Gretzky's single-season record is 215. He topped 200 four times in a row. It's just unimaginable dominance by today's standards. I'd love to see anyone get close.

Yup, this is my choice too. No other major sport needs that type of hype that would last for months. The NHL has quietly gone back to the pre-lockout dead puck era--anybody approaching 200 points would be incredible to watch in this day and age.

Not even just the points, he had seasons of 92 and 87 goals. He almost averaged 2.0 points per his game. Even his last season with the rangers he had 62 points in 70 games, playing in the clutch and grab/dead puck era. Just look at his stats, they are insane, like video game numbers.

I want to see a receiver get 2000 yards. Megatron almost got there but fell short a couple years ago.

Alabama's national titles in football. Their 4 awarded from "Field and Stream" magazine will never be topped.
