Love the media saying Duke was short-handed.....they used 8 guys while we used 7...and Ryan/Pflueger combined for 24 minutes.

We won't be able to have the same number of TO's against UNC like we did against Duke and no deep hole to climb out of. Tar Heals are playing much better than earlier in the year. We can beat them. We don't have to be perfect, but close to it.

Ya I agree with the turnovers. No way we can beat them with even 10 turnovers. We only had 2 when we played them in Feb. We gotta be very efficient today on offense to have a chance to win. And on defense well they are huge guys so I'm guessing we are gonna go some again and try to make them make shots from outside which their rly not that great at doing but they are an amazing offensive rebounding team so we gotta gang rebound tonight

If that was Coach K's last game, could Coach Brey's next loss be his last at ND? Anyone think Kevin White would hire him again?

Would Brey want to leave? He's got it made at ND. 2nd Tier team*, in a great conference, strong but not powerhouse history, less pressure, don't have to be "the guy after Coach K," and stability.

*I say this in a good way. We aren't a blue blood, but have a heck of a run under Brey in consistency. Also, we are surprisingly in the Top 10 All Time in wins.

No way! The Expectations after a coach like that would be unrealistic. Brey is a good coach for ND, However i don't think he cold recruit or coach at a Duke Level.

I understand your thought.

But the bolded is ironic, considering ND is 5-1 against Duke since joining the same conference.

You give Brey Duke's brand, and his recruiting will skyrocket. He might be slightly behind K, but not ND level of recruiting...

Throw out the 7-8 years of MacCleod collecting a check and I bet the Irish haven't won less than 20 ten times since Austin Carr came to town. I think they've only had 5 losing seasons in that time too.

Are you hearing something or just "what iffing"?

Definitely what iffing. We always talk about it. I think i've come to the conclusion that White should go after Brad Stevens and skip the drama of who you pick from the coaching tree. Brey would make the most sense as Amaker and Capel haven't gotten it done on the big stage and Wojo and Collins are just getting started.

So do they just shut the program down or do you think they could hire Calipari?

I agree. Just saying we aren't on the level of the powerhouses, but we are damn close. Very consistent program.

This is not a hate statement at all. I like Brey for ND He does a good job here. Could he do better Yes i do. But for ND coming to a new conference Brey's teams have held their own. I don't believe ND will ever win a National championship in mens basketball. Top 8 a couple times i can see.

We were definitely a championship-caliber team last year...that said, we had two NBA draft picks on the team. How many times will that be the case for ND, though?

Coach K did an awful lot to build that brand. A lot of kids go to duke because of coach K. IMO the kids would lose some interest in the school and would consider other top programs.

I again i will say i like Brey at ND and it is a great situation for him. The expectations aren't super high, he puts a good but inconsistent product on the court. He will probably have ND men's Basketball program at it's high point ever. I just don't believe he is a tier 1 coach.

Get ready for some horse shit seeding on Sunday. Duke will get the most favorable region like always and probably get seeded one or two spots higher than us even if we win the ACC AGAIN. Raleigh is hosting so 99% odds Duke plays there and ND will be an 8/9 seed up against the hottest #1 first weekend if they can beat the hottest mid-major team they put us up against in the first round. Might set up a new host location in Juneau or Anchorage for ND to travel to as well.

Sincerely

No I didn't mean for it to sound like I was taking offense. I know exactly where you're coming from when you say "Duke-level," and I generally agree.

It is just truly an ironic statement/situation. "Duke-level" means that you can put together a deep tournament run every year if the cards fall correctly and your team gets hot. Mike Brey probably doesn't coach to that level if put in that situation. Close maybe, but not quite there... but even so, he's 5-1 against the very team/level we're discussing lol. It almost doesn't make any sense.

It's one thing to win a matchup or two against a program that is generally ahead of yours... but 5-1 is a mark that is absurd. It's almost as if ND is becoming one of those "mental hurdle" games for Duke.

It took Coach K five years to get the program rolling, but it was 78 or 79 that Duke made it to the CG so it wasn't like he took over a rug mat of a team.

Season Coach Overall Conference Standing Postseason
Mike Krzyzewski (Atlantic Coast Conference) (1980–Present)
1980–81 Mike Krzyzewski 17–13 6–8 T-5th NIT Quarterfinals
1981–82 Mike Krzyzewski 10–17 4–10 T-6th —
1982–83 Mike Krzyzewski 11–17 3–11 7th —
1983–84 Mike Krzyzewski 24–10 7–7 T-3rd NCAA Round of 32
1984–85 Mike Krzyzewski 23–8 8–6 T-4th NCAA Round of 32
1985–86 Mike Krzyzewski 37–3 12–2 1st NCAA Finalist

Not sure Brad Stevens would leave Boston to go to Duke, at least right now. He's got the Celtics going in the right direction and if he can get another player or two look out. I could see him going back to the collegiate ranks after winning an NBA championship. Most speculation is IU will make a hard run at him when they look for another coach. If Stevens ends up at Duke, you will see hatred for Duke at levels you didn't know existed, because he'll be kicking everyone's butt all the time.

Hope he doesn't leave anytime soon....but he would absolutely destroy at Duke or Indiana.

Agree. When he was at Butler I would here him every week on one of the local sports radio programs. The guy is genius when it comes to hoops. Just listening to him was fascinating.
