I would be upset if Daryl kicks the bucket. I think him, Rick, and Michonne are the focal point characters of the show. Glen is in the next tier.

I hate when they really focus on a character, makes me think that they will be going night night soon. aka Abraham in last nights episode - thought something was going to happen to him...almost did. Wish he'd make it to the end. Just a badass character but since he isn't a main character makes me think he is easily expendable.

I'd be shocked if they took out Maggie.

I was also surprised that no one, even an "extra" didn't get killed in the shootout with the saviors. I thought Heath, when he was pussying out, was going to wake up that one savior and he'd somehow get killed.

Great episode. It just feels really intense like the days of the governor. Next episode also appears to be slow moving but epic setting up the stage for what appears to be a hostage exchange that didn't go to plan.

I don't think Negan would want to kill everyone. Otherwise, he wouldn't have anyone to give him half of their stuff to his people for nothing other than "protection."

I also like how father Gabriel is turning into a boondock saint.

I think Abraham is safe for a while, actually. Mostly because...

I wouldn't be. They have shown time and time again that they will use symbolism with who they kill off. Maggie is a clear symbol for "hope for the future", which as we all know, is a favorite of the writers as a target for doom.

Samesies.

I'll tell you this... I have a strong feeling that they will have Negan brutally kill someone in the party. Like he did with Jesus' camp, that is his calling card. He will send a message by brutally beating one of them to death. My guess... either Heath or unfortunately... Daryl.

If Daryl is the guy Negan chooses to send a message I would be upset. I hope they don't send Daryl out as the example made by Negan if they choose that it's time for Daryl to go. I would hope they would find some more badass way for him to depart the show. He's gotta go down fighting like his brother.

I could see him falling on the sword for Maggie. That would be a total Daryl move.

What are your thoughts on Glen? Would you think he would step in if Negan had his sights set on Maggie? Or are you saying Daryl would want to protect both of them for the family sake?

I'm not sure how it will roll, but hell... maybe he beats Glen to death and that is when Daryl pops up in order to save Maggie.

That was shocking. I did enjoy how Daryl reconciled the situation. But Beth was awesome.

People undervalue Rick. Daryl is more likeable, doesn't mean the show needs him more. Without Rick people would just wonder what is really going on. Everything centers around him. Like Murdock told Rambo, Daryl is expendable (not hoping he goes, but Rick is the MVP).

Agree. But if one of them goes and we want a good show, Daryl goes. Anyone who says otherwise is confusing favorite with most necessary. Lobster is my favorite, but bread is a lot more necessary.

So I'm a big character guy, I watch movies or shows of a fictional variety mainly because I connect to, or enjoy, certain characters,... if a movie for example just has a cast full of characters I don't enjoy or relate to, I'm done regardless of story or film making.

With that said: I stopped watching a while back because I'm tired of shows/movies/stories building these fan 'relationships' with beloved characters only to kill them in some brutal way and I really like both Daryl and Glen... if the show gets to a point where both are pretty much safe I'll come back... I have better things to do than invest my time in lost causes if you will... it's the same reason I'm pretty much done reading the SoFI series or watching Thrones... just my tastes but I don't understand the enjoyment of watching the good guys lose over and over or watching bad shit continually happen to them... I can watch the nightly news for that.

just my two cents... rant officially over.

Has anyone done a DNA chase to see if Hershel is related to the Mannings?

Come back!!! It's all speculation on who gets whacked but those are currently 2 of 5 characters that have been in every one of the 6 seasons. Easily good chance that they make it further, if not, to the end.

Great episode, like Wooly said, they've been consistently good to great lately. (The preserved Deanna thing being a minor and funny exception that we discussed, that can be explained, and didn't matter much)

The rest of the season is going to be crazy, obviously. I think we definitely lose a Tier 1, and at least one Tier 2 type character from our group. I don't want to say anything about Tier 1 b/c of potential spoiler and internet stuff, but purely on my hunch I agree w/ some of you guys that Abraham is in trouble from Tier 2.

That's actually what I love about this show and GoT. Sure... They both kill off characters you love. But killing them off isn't what makes both shows great, it's that they can keep introducing new characters and scenarios to fill those voids. Seems like you're throwing out the bath water before checking to see if there is still a baby in the tub. Give them a chance to fill the void for you before you bail.

The thing about Daryl is that killing him off serves no purpose whatsoever other than pure shock value. His death would not be symbolic of anything special. His motorcycle and crossbow are iconic aspects of the show that would be completely gone.

I've been thinking about other possibilities for who Negan might kill and I think Morgan is actually a pretty good candidate. His death would stand for the principle that you either kill or be killed. While I would miss his character, I don't know if he has much of a role going forward if he is going to refuse to kill people. He's not "Tier 1" but he is Tier 2 for sure.

Don't want a whole lot of spoiler, but did this follow the comic line at all?

I'm going to say no. It's been awhile since I read this part of the comics, but I want to say they pretty much deviated for this past episode and did their own thing. For one, Carol has been dead for some time in the comics.

I really liked the last episode actually. I dig those types of storylines where you feel anxious the entire time. This episode definitely did that.

I'm assuming that the Negan storyline is far from done though.

Yeah, if they dedicated a proportional number of seasons to the number of comics they did with Negan...it would be like 4 seasons. I doubt they drag the story out that long, but we're definitely just getting the tip of the iceberg here.
