2015 Maxpreps 2nd Team Junior All American at TE with WR's Darnay Holmes and Osiris St. Brown

MaxPreps 2015 Football Junior All-American Team - MaxPreps

Calcaterra is the closest thing I've seen to Jeff Samardzija when they were both in high school. Good hands and deceptive top speed once they wind up. I saw him last season against Mater Dei and he's a handful. He actually had better numbers than Dylan Crawford on the season. 48 Rec for 950ish yards 9TD's. He's also originally from Cincinnati, Mom's an IU grad so Indiana isn't some strange, foreign land.

Loy was all over him at the US Army Combine where he, Wiltfong and other 247 staffers named him First Team All Combine WR. Had a 39" vertical and ran a 4.7. ISD (I think) had an article about combine players that ND had interest in and he was featured.

247Sports 2016 U.S. Army National Combine All-Combine Team

247 interview with Loy:

Midwest schools pushing for Cali. 3-star

This spring, there is another program Calcaterra will visit. It's a school he's wanted to check out for quite some time.

"When I take my college trip during the spring, I am visiting Notre Dame," said Calcaterra. "I get a lot of letters from them, but I haven't been in contact with any coaches. That's one of the schools I would really like to start hearing from."

Doesn't really remind me of the shark to much. I liken him to our old friend Decon Cajuste.

Picked up Louisville, Utah, Indiana, Vandy & Oklahoma offers in the past week or so. Got 4 CB's to OU, one of them Loy.

He also started following Denbrock, Kearney and a few ND analysts in the same time so something's heating up.

247 gave him a nice bump from #99 WR to #13 TE. He's no TE and I'd never make him into one. Obviously, OU likes what they have in Mark Andrews. Andrews, Calcaterra and Shark very similar players in HS. Hopefully Boykin is that guy too.

Visiting during his spring break at the end of March / start of April. Has also been invited to Irish Invasion from what I gather from the Biggins / Scout video.

I get the vibe from this video that ND is at the top of his list.

It's obvious that education is important because he said he's waiting on Notre Dame and Northwestern offers.

In case you missed it above, he's a Cincinnati transplant and his Mom is an Indiana grad.

I can't really comment on that. I saw ESB twice live and he couldn't get the ball because Travis Waller ran the ball everytime. ESB, OSB, Terrell Bynum & ASB on the bench... and he's running it. The one thing I can say is Calcaterra works the middle of the field like a boss and with the schedule SMC plays, that can get your head taken off. ESB only worked the sidelines... blocking. Calcaterra had twice the production ESB did in the same conference, granted he also had 10x the QB in KJ Costello vs Waller but he was also the 2nd option with Dylan Crawford getting more targets.

Calcaterra is more like Samardzija or Mark Andrews of OU or when they were in high school. Physically he's in between the two weight wise and up until now he shared having a great QB with Andrews who played every game in high school with Kyle Allen.

He's by no means a must get as the Irish have his skill set with ESB and Boykin but he's worthy of the recruitment.

Got a feeling this kid's gonna be Irish.

Reminds me of the Shark, Eifert, Rudolph, Welker, etc.

Kid's got eight legs? And can run over half a football team, all while making a one-handed catch? (With any one of them?)

Sign me up. I always wanted a kid who was the ultimate wide receiver; he could block for his own screen!

Dang. And I know I shouldn't come into the last two posts of a thread and assume I understand what's going on.

My bad, I guess.

No, it's okay, bro. We don't have any idea of what's going on, either. We are just making shit up that sounds good, or 'splains things.

IE's no different from any other American forum at the moment, race must be acknowledged at every turn. It's funny when professionals on SNL address it, it's oft times tiresome to classless when mere mortals give it a shot. But it is our First Amendment right and #WhiteReceiversLivesMatter

I've mentioned them before above: If Smardzija & OU's Andrews are takes, I think Calcaterra is too. Throw in Stanford's Devon Cajuste like someone did. He's another comparable.

Shark did it against ok competition (My HS conference) but nowhere near what Andrews did it against in Scottsdale. Calcaterra then trumps Andrews' competition 2 fold in the Trinity League. So I'm sold but...

The one thing though that has to be taken into consideration is do they need another Boykin in this class? He's never going to be a TE at ND. ND has ESB & Boykin for a tall receiver and Alize Jones may end up a Funchess TE/WR. The staff might not want to stack another player like that in this class. That's up to them and I get it if that's their thinking.

I like the prospect but this is what takes the cake for me. We have quite a bit of eligibility of players with a similar skill set, not to mention Cole Kmet already in this class.

I'd add that I really like the frame and potential if he were able to play another position, say DE or LB, but it doesn't sound like that in the cards at all.

Agreed but leaving the real TE's like Kmet and Wright out of it what probably happens is:

ESB and AZ both have breakout years in '16, '17 or both and declare early but Boykin transfers to Wisconsin at the end of '16 because he's trapped behind ESB, AZ, CC, JMc, DR, CJS and incoming TB and OSB. Claypool then gets switched to OLB and we'd be like.... Damn! Wish we would have taken that Calcaterra kid who's hauled in 1200 yards a year at Michigan.

That would be my luck.

"I have been talking to Coach Denbrock for probably a month now and he has just been telling me how I could be a fit. Most schools have said they see me as a tight end type of hybrid or a big wide receiver and that’s how Notre Dame kind of sees me too," Calcaterra said.

“It’s a great school,” Calcaterra said. “I go to a prep and Catholic school, so I feel like it would be an easy transition for me with Notre Dame being Catholic and everything. And obviously the football program is great. They have been good of a very long time, so that’s appealing and I think I would fit well in their system. I know Tyler Eifert went there and I have been compared to him when he was in high school, so I like that.”

"They would obviously be a leader," he said. "I don’t have any specific leaders right now, it’s kind of early to narrow down my list — but it would be huge."
