Jones said Denson was at Saraland High on the second day of the recruiting contact period, to show the USC verbal commit that he's a priority for the Irish moving forward.

"He said he came because I'm a playmaker that can play ball," Jones said.

"We had been talking for a while and he said that he was going to come down and see me, so I knew something good was happening.

Velus Jones has already taken official visits to Michigan and Oklahoma.
"We were just talking about life and everything, and how his job is to try and replace you every year with someone good because he said when you have a whole bunch of good athletes on a team, the cream will rise to the top. The best players will shine. He was then saying that he wants people that are great in the classroom, great academically, and great on the football field.

"He asked me if I was ready for all of that and I said, 'Yes sir.' And he was like, 'I have an offer for you from Notre Dame."

"I was excited." - See more at: https://notredame.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1832983#sthash.yuw4B6L2.dpuf

We must be expecting numerous wr transfers ...lots of takes still on the board apparently

Total guess here but maybe they anticipate Boykin will gain too much weight to be a realistic option at WR.

I hope not, he has Floyd-like blocking written all over him (Floyd of senior year). And ESB is a deer and CJ Sanders does dirty stuff from the slot and Hunter Jr will be primed for next year and hopefully Fuller comes back.

Oh and Alize will be eating next year, I have no doubt. Kelly will feature him in his 2nd full season, now that he's likely gained the trust of the coaches.

This kid is a 3 star while Alloway is a borderline top 150 player. Makes no sense. Like him a lot more then McIntosh as a slot WR prospect. Hope we are all over him.

Kelly probably needed new pants when he saw him run those Jet sweeps

2016 BK has the best chance of any to hoist the trophy. Defense please, please...just play some damn defense!!

Kid can fly. Reminds me of Antonio Brown.

I want to know what our friendly tide fan knows about him.

I dont think that at all. Notre Dame needs to lock up a speed guy. Notre Dame needs speed. You can't have a roster of ESB/Boykin/Claypool's. Stepherson/Claypool and then a combo of Corley or McKinley and Velus would give Notre Dame depth across the board.

Doesn't look like he has elite topend speed but his acceleration and quick cutting would be welcomed in this offense. Really he reminds me of CJS a little bit.

I'd say sign him up.

I think you're right. His speed is not in the league of Chris Brown or Will Fuller, but faster than Torii Hunter Jr. His agility, quickness are Theo Riddick like. Just a faster version of Theo and that's not a bad option at all.

USC commit looking around

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - USC commit Velus Jones Jr. out of Saraland, Ala. remains a Trojan but things are shaky. Jones has already taken three official visits with stops at Michigan, Tennessee and Oklahoma all behind him and he has two more official visits to Mississippi State and Notre Dame still to come. While competing at the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic, Jones talked about where things stand.

"I'm still committed to USC but I re-opened my recruitimet so I'm just looking around trying to see what school would be best for me," Jones said.

During the drama of the last few months at USC, Jones didn't have much of an opinion on where the Trojans should go to find a new head coach but that time of uncertainty has certainly opened the door for other programs to fill the void.

"That's their problem so I was just trying to focus on me instead of focusing on other schools," Jones said of the coaching search. "I talked to Tee Martin not too long ago. He talked about how he didn't know if he was going to get fired. They weren't talking to me for a while so I had to focus on me and do my own thing."

Of the official visits that Jones has taken lately, Oklahoma and Tennessee both made strong impressions.

"I really liked Tennessee," he said. "They say it's crazy around there on game days. I know how the SEC gets. I had a good time. I knew one of their players and I felt like I fit in.

"Oklahoma, that was a great visit. My aunt and uncle live 10 minutes from the campus. I have famiy there and feel at home. I have a good chance at starting at Oklahoma or Tennessee."

The two remaining visits of Notre Dame and Mississippi State excite Jones as well.

"Notre dame, they're top notch," he said. "Everybody doesn't get a Notre Dame offer so I think it's a great opportunity so I wanted to go up there and check it out and everything. They say getting a degree from Notre Dame would be amazing.

"I really like Mississippi State. I like Coach (Brian) Johnson the QB coach . They're all cool guys and I like the environment on game day and everything."

While the current plan is for Jones to finish off his official visits before making a final decision, he says anything is possible in terms of a time frame.

"It's about that time. You can't be waiting for too long or spots will start filling up."

For USC's part, the Trojans remain in the mix with Clay Helton's decision to retain wide receivers coach Tee Martin. If Martin was gone, Jones would be gone too.

"There wouldn't be a connection without him," Jones said.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Jones is ranked as the No. 71 wide receiver in the country.

If this is accurate he is going to be a superstar.

Solid speed but not going to be the top end guy in a college offense. Really good at route running and his hands are good enough. Can make some good cuts quickly and because of that he looks faster than he is. If I were comparing him to any Bama receiver in the recent past, I would put his game closer to Kevin Norwood than any of them. Full disclosure... I am not as good at evaluating players as others out here but that's my impression of Jones from what I have seen.

Anyway really liked this kid. I can see him being a Sterling Shepard type player for them.
