Really? They've been moving the ball and had some soft-ass penalties, including roughing the punter that was probably a ten point swing.Michigan showing its true colors today. Hasn't beaten anyone all year.
ND has a better schedule than Iowa but ND lost a game and Iowa didn't.
Y'all are posting like the team with the best SOS trumps everything.
Regardless, as I mentioned a few days ago, debating Iowa v. ND is completely pointless. If they beat MSU they will rightfully be in. If they lose, they will rightfully be out.
Focus all the hate on Oklahoma and Alabama.
I generally agree, unless OK State wins big and we only squeak by Stanford. If we win, we'll be in if OU loses. OK ST is not jumping us, and I'll wager any vbuck amount that they won't.
Could Clemson blowing this somehow be a good thing for us? Anyone think we get in over Clemson if they lose to usc east? Or does that drop our SoS enough to keep us out? Or will they still get in because of the head to head win?

I don't see us getting in over a one loss Clemson or UNC.
I honestly wonder if a one loss OSU would jump us, given the whipping they're putting on Michigan. Could the B1G get two teams? Seems unlikely, but stranger things have happened.
I think they would. The B1G is almost guaranteed to get one playoff spot at this point.

Agreed that they're getting a playoff spot, but the question is could they get two?
If OU loses and we win a squeaker, could OSU make the jump? I hope not.

Won't happen IMO. The committee will use the common opponent in Clemson to put NC in us (even though it didn't help us with Texas and Oklahoma) and will use the head to head if it is Clemson (even though our loss is not to a 4-8 team).
I'm just curious, if the score holds, will Clemson drop two spots for beating a 3-8 team like we did even though BC had the number 1 defense at the time we played them.
Or if clemson does squeak it out here, a UNC win in the acc title game could have us jump clemson... I doubt UNC could get in over us.
With all of the other chaos, let's hope for an NC St upset today too!
The Texas comparison did help us. That's why we were ranked ahead of Oklahoma for the first two weeks. But then Oklahoma won some games against some good teams and became the front-runner to win the Big-12.
I don't necessarily think we should join a conference, but the reality is that by the committee's rules, we are at a disadvantage relative to conference champions.
I thought it was winning a "conference championship" which Big 12 does not have. They may anoint a conference champ but they do not have a conference championship. That has been the know for ND...that 13th game.
In regards to Texas game, I disagree. We were ahead of them earlier because they backloaded their schedule. Has nothing to do with us beating Texas and Oklahoma losing to Texas. Otherwise it would still matter. We still have a harder SOS in regards to all of the ones I have seen (although the gap has closed tremendously) and definitely have the better "quality loss". If common opponents were a part of the equation, there is no way Oklahoma is ahead of us.
I don't think a 12 point win will be considered squeaking it out.
I guess I disagree. It's obviously not conclusive, but I'm sure it's something they considered. One think about our SOS, it was heavily reliant on both Navy and Temple being considered "good teams." I suspect that the committee was always skeptical about that, and Navy losing by 3 scores to Houston will only reinforce that.
Definitely hurts us. If we could, somehow, beat Stanford like OSU beat Michigan today, I don't think there is any possibility we would not make the playoffs. Even if Oklahoma won. Our quality win would equal theirs and our 2-pt loss to the number 1 team is much better than a 7-pt loss to an non-bowl eligible team. Hopefully this is the scenario we will be able to discuss AFTER the game.
The last few weeks have destroyed our opponents records. I believe the records of the teams we beat are now under .500 combined.
