I'll just end with I think Denbrock is a very good recruiter and it was a big mistake last year not having him out there.

This will be a very interesting finish to Cali recruiting for us as we'll have a fairly close measuring stick as it looks like UM is trying to pull some major Cali talent and kids that are ND capable.

Five-star Betiku reopens recruitment

Notre Dame will get an official visit from defensive end Oluwole Betiku next month. When the five-star hits South Bend he’ll likely be on the open market after de-committing from UCLA on Friday morning.

Five-star defensive end Oluwole Betiku de-committed from UCLA on Friday.
That means when the elite pass rusher from Gardena, Calif., takes his next official visit, a trip to Notre Dame on Nov. 14, that he’ll do it as a recruiting free agent.
The Irish are among a handful of programs that Betiku will consider moving forward. Florida, Florida State, Texas A&M and USC are also in the mix for the standout from Serra High School.
Betiku wants to play in a 4-3 defensive front that allows its edge defenders to get after the passer. UCLA employs a 3-4 scheme.
The change of plans for Betiku is actually a course correction after Betiku went on record this summer that he’d take his official visits before making a decision. While UCLA was the presumed leader back at The Opening, the timing of the commitment to the Bruins was a surprise.
Betiku took official visits to Florida State and Texas A&M in October and was originally set to see Notre Dame last weekend for the USC game. Instead, he opted to see the Aggies take on Alabama in College Station.
Notre Dame associate head coach Mike Denbrock visited Betiku on Thursday at his school, and the Irish hosted Betiku’s teammate, four-star safety Brandon Burton, on an official visit last weekend.

Hurry up and switch to a 4-3. Or maybe we promised him the Percy Harvin role😀

While you guys have been debating Denbrock, 6 of the last 7 crystal balls at 247, including Wilfong's have gone to A&M for Betiku.

but we have also discussed that wiltfong has been wrong quite a few times this year. I will be praying that this is one of those times

Thats what my initial post on the matter was about. We are by no means a favorite here but this doesn't hurt.

Also can anyone explain why Greenberry thought it was a good idea to enter the draft this year?!

Greenberry flipped on signing day. Unless I'm missing details, I'd say Houston won the recruiting battle.

How did he win the Greenberry recruitment? He actually signed with Houston on NSD. And then we'll have to agree to disagree on giving him credit for a kid, Vanderdoes, who never showed up. Signing an LOI does nothing for the football team, playing does.

The check didn't clear until NSD so he was keeping his options open with ND.

I don't think the academic side of things not working out should reflect on Denbrock at all. Those are isolated entities and decisions. I would hope they are recruiting all borderline guys 100% and hoping the academic side works out rather than just avoiding every prospect who may not meet the standards.

I look at this recruitment similar to the recruitment and actions of Kareem and Hayes. Watch what they do and not what they say.

Kareem and Hayes both had an option last weekend to either attend the ND game or go to UM, where college GameDay was, and attend that game. Both came to the ND game.

In this case, he had a choice last week and actually cancelled his ND visit to attend the "bigger game" and went to TAMU.

Nuff said imo.

While I agree and I think its the right approach I'm not sure what that has to do with whether or not we give Denbrock credit for those wins or lack thereof.

Honest question, then how do we evaluate a recruiter? Isn't by how many players he gets on campus for ND? If so, those players never played for ND therefore not sure why we'd give him credit.

And again let me just say I think he's a heck of a recruiter but I don't give him credit for those guys.

On Betiku, Loy said that he spoke with someone close to him that they'd be surprised if he ended up at A&M because he's adamant about looking for more in terms of academics. We'll see if thats true but its what was posted.

We won, TAMU got curb stomped. I'm not optimistic we'll land Betiku, but if he ends up taking his OV anything can happen. If he's as intelligent as he sounds in some of the interviews I've heard, he'll realize ND is like no other program out there.

As of now the buzz has been around A&M and FSU with UF and ND being others under consideration. Visited the first 2 already and is setup to visit UF and ND.

If he comes to ND USC instead of Texas A&M Bama he's not a A&M lean right now. We'll either lead or drop out soon after his visit IMO. ND is so much different then FSU, UF, and Texas A&M.

They said he has never visited other colleges outside of Cali and a few others. Could be just enjoying each moment. Hopefully we make the best impression.

It will obviously come down to just how important academics really are in his recruitment. I'm leary on buying into the importance of academics in this recruitment because of visits he's taking. TAMU and FSU hardly scream academia to me. ND stands a chance because it's not like any other school on his list. ND will hit a home run or fade almost immediately following his visit.
